Spammers Love Me on Technorati

Posted By Darren Rowse 6th of January 2008 Miscellaneous Blog Tips 25

Looks like Technorati have been hit by spammers targeting the Top 100 blogs by favoriting them. Read about it at Technorati Favorites Spam.

Here’s how the latest ‘favorites’ section on ProBlogger looks:

Spammers-Technorati-1

Apparently it’s the same for all Top 100 blogs at the moment.

I guess more people will just have to mark ProBlogger as a favorite of theirs to knock the spammers out!

Add ProBlogger to Your Technorati Favorites Here and defeat the spammers by pushing them down so they’re not viewable!

  1. Hi Darren.

Life is tough at the top huh? Think of it as a complement to your awesome blog. I’ll do my bit though. This is a call to arms!

  2. spammers are always inventing new ways to hit popular bloggers, guess this is there latest

  3. Just when you think you have figured out spammers and have tools to at least deter their actions, they come up with some smart ways to spam you more.

Even though this particular instance in Technorati is annoying, I must admit that its pretty smart thinking by the spammers!!

Lets see how Technorati counters this…

  4. the spammers never sleep it seems

  5. I hate spam. I’ve made ProBlogger a favorite. I thought it already was. I also saw the same thing for John Chow and Shoemoney.

  6. I think it’s something that unfortunately comes along with being a great blogger, and having a top blog. I’ll fave you. :)

  7. Last year the – believe it or not – the NUMBER ONE popular blog of the Technorati top 100 was a spam blog for one day.

How they attained that feat is remarkable.

But it has never been repeated – so Technorati must have corrected the hack

  8. Hey Darren,

You’re the favorite of many, the good ones as well the bad ones also. Btw, I have spam too. It’s the other side of the coin which can be decreased but impossible to stop.

    Chill

  9. It is amazing how much brain, time and energy these spammers spend to do stupid things. If they were to use the same brain, time and energy to do legitimate things, they’ll probably become rich.

  10. Couldn’t agree more with Famous Quotes. What do people bother going to such extents? Who falls for spam nowadays?

  11. Even I’m getting spammers, and I’m not anywhere near a top 100 blog. The same thing is happening on blogcatalog.

  12. The technorati favorite link is for: http://www.livingroom.org.au/photolog !!!
    Not problogger. :(

  13. Hi Darren,

these guys who think they re too smart and who l like to break the line and move ahead are a real pain. The unfortunate thing is that they do it at the cost of many who want to do the right things.
    Its a pain ..
all the best dealing with it. I have bookmarked you so..

    Vineet Nair

  14. Thanks for the mention!

@Famous Quotes: I am positive it is all automated, and I know for a fact someone is getting rich, otherwise they wouldn’t keep doing it.

  15. Aww, why didn’t I think of that!

Oh, wait, because I have ethics and don’t want to sell stuff like that. I hope Technorati gets the accounts deleted quickly.

  16. Unfortunately, at least some spammers must make money, otherwise they wouldn’t bother persisting. If they bombard enough people, they then only need a miniscule proportion of them to take action in order to profit.

  17. Paige to the rescue! =0 )

  18. Darren, that is just so “blogger”… using a situation like this to drive more favorites…

it makes me love and despise you in one shot :-)

  19. Yes, a good feature to a website that allows users to input their thoughts might attract, but along the way it will always attract spammers. Programming must never leave niches to the websites where script bots can enter.

  20. These bastards never quit do they. Still, be proud in the fact that your site is worthy of getting their attention.

  21. That’s really funny–but what specifically makes this spam?

Is it that these “fans” are in business?
That their sales message is shown in their avatar?
Or that you do not like their choice of products?

If they were selling WordPress templates instead, would you still call it spam? Or how about if they were moving Bibles?

  22. Oh, and using beautiful women to market products is the oldest trick in the book…does that imply that the seemingly innocent avatar #4 is also spammy?

  23. “It is amazing how much brain, time and energy these spammers spend to do stupid things. If they were to use the same brain, time and energy to do legitimate things, they’ll probably become rich.”

The good ones are quite rich. I know of a few earning $100,000+K a month. Search “Black Hat” in google and you will find out all about it. Infact, the ones who are talented in Spam are usually the best SEO’s, but choose to use their talents for evil not good.

  24. Spammers make me sicks everyday…!!!SUCKS!

  25. Spammers are every where . They hunt for popular blogs like yours it seems .
