  1. Great video, he sure knows his stuff….

  2. Thanks for the great video. I only wish we could have seen some more of the slides he was showing.

  3. I didn’t find this very useful.

  4. That’s an interesting video, i’ve found the ppt, you can download it here: http://www.netconcepts.com/learn/seo-mistakes.ppt

    Cheers.

  5. This is a really great video. I was pleased to find out I am doing a few things right with the categories and tags even if the rest of it makes me fee kind of humble.

  6. I think it’s a nice introduction for beginners who have little or no idea about seo at all.

    Saludos

  7. Thanks for the vid Darren. I’ll be checking it out later.

  8. Thanks Darren, very informative.

  9. Great stuff. Picked up some new stuff on this. Especially like that WP-Sticky plugin. Great idea to optimize category pages. Thanks!

  10. Well I have found the SEO tittle tag plugin very ineresting, maybe I should try it.

Also the last question, about should we nofollow RSS Feed was useful. I always thought I should add nofollow to RSS, never thought about blog search.

One more thing, do anyone get high SE rankings on category pages?

I always link to them within posts mostly for visitor navigation because I have a news site so it’s very useful – but Google barely indexes it….?

  11. Thanks for posting this. The video is definitely a great primer to SEO. Although I am familiar with most of the material covered on the video, I do find that this is beneficial to SEO newbies.

  12. Thank you for video . I will defiantly watch it :)

  13. Thanks for the video. If you watch the intro right around 2 minutes you can see my buddy and me walk past. It was a good conference, if any of you use wordpress it is worth checking out next year.

  14. So many SEO techniques and tips :) Often we know about them all, but have we actually implemented them all on our blogs/sites?

  15. I think the best thing I took away from it was the idea of making sure your internal linking is within context. “More” could be “read the rest of “Title.”

Likewise, inter-blog linking shouldn’t be using links that say “link” and “read here” – but rather words that are relative to the page they’re linking from and following through to.

    Thanks Darren!

  16. One year ago, I wouldn’t of understood one word Mr. Spencer said. Now I do.

Inter-linking your blog posts will keep visitors at your blog longer, if you have something to say.

  17. Thanks for posting the video, it was helpful for an SEO newb like myself.

  18. Thanks for the great post, helped to see where I had a few SEO errors and a nice touch up to the other SEO skills I had. Thanks again.

  19. Thanks for the video it’s very useful for me.

  20. I’ve recently undertaken an internship as an in-house SEO at an extreme sports company – with this being my first real introduction to the world of SEO.

Over the last few months I have worked alongside John O’Nolan – http://www.eggrage.co.uk./ – who has taught me the basics of SEO techniques. I am finding it very interesting and am eager to learn new techniques, this video clarified a few points for me, however there are still one or two points that im still fuzzy about – but not for much longer!

    Thanks Stephen!

  21. Thanks for sharing the great tips!

WordPress is very off page friendly with the comment system and trackback…but the on page optimization is worst!

Fortunately there are many plugins that will improve WordPress problems:

    1. Title
    2. Permalink
    3. Category & Archieve
    4. Tag

I heard there is a new plugin call PlatinumSEO can replace AllinOneSEO.

  22. Some useful tips in there. I’ve already changed my category pages to include a meaningful category description – it’s only one basic line of PHP in the code, a bit more if you want to be fancy.

The problem I have is that I started a number of my blogs when it was very common to use the /year/month/day/post-title format, which potentially is adding a lot of bulk to URLs. I need to figure out the rewrite rules (not complicated, I’m sure) to redirect all that down to a simpler format. Also will check out the Title plugins.

  23. I found this video very helpful. A lot of it is way over my head right now but I took bits and pieces that I can use. I have a lot to learn that is for sure. Thank you for sharing this video.

  24. This would be helpful if we could see his powerpoint slides. Is there a way to get a copy of his slides?

  25. @TeachMomHow you can download the slides (ppt) here:

    http://www.netconcepts.com/learn/seo-mistakes.ppt

    Cheers.

  26. Well, I feel really stupid. Stephan said this stuff is suppossed to be so easy? Didn’t sound easy to me. Alot of it was over my head! I think I need a beginner’s SEO class.

  27. Good stuff Darren…

  28. Extremely useful and interesting.
Really a well done video for all bloggers.
    Thanks.

  29. I learned something from this and that is always a good thing. thanks for sharing.

  30. Thanks Darren, great video.

Also thanks German for the link to the slides!

  31. Great video.

One of the things that confuses me is the use of both Categories and Tags (and even “conjunction tags”) recommended here by Stephan. Isn’t this generating a lot of duplicate content? I know I had watched an SEOMoz whiteboard friday video where they chastised people who put the same post in multiple categories, because it resulted in duplicate content and a less optimized site tree. I assumed they were also against tags.

I have always skipped tags for this very reason. What is the SEO value added from having a page with a tag as the title and a collection of articles that can all be found under category pages that have a more focused introduction?

Is it SEO best practices to use categories and tags? One over the other?

This has always confused me :) Thanks!

  32. Okay, I just can’t stay away – I need to ask another question :)

Stephan talks about optimized RSS feeds, particularly about steering clear from services like Feedburner so that you can host the feed on your own blog.

Unless there is some way to get all the benefits of those services… like measuring subscribers, tracking clicks, adding viral pass-along links, etc… that seems like taking SEO too far (to the point of severely hurting usability and the added-value of your feed). Certainly, I can’t think of a blog I subscribe to that still hosts their own feeds.

What’s your guys’ take on this?

  33. thanks but i have seen a lot of SEO technique like this before and i think i’m satisfied with what i have, cheers :)

  34. Thanks for the video, I really like the articles on the netconcepts web page at http://www.netconcepts.com/tag/seo+articles also.

  35. @German: appreciate you in providing the ppt.
    I can’t listen through stephan’s presentation LOL
    Short attention span

  36. Good video, got some new tips for me.

I’m new comer but my net is too slow :( take me a long time for download video.

  38. thanks…I already spend 30 minutes for watching useful video….

  39. I don’t get the whole Nofollow thing – I mean, people want others to comment on their blog, giving them content, but they’re not prepared to give the commenter something in return. Seems a bit selfish to me

That was an interesting video. It would give me further knowledge about the field I am in right now. And I believe it would greatly help people especially newbies who want to learn SEO.
