Melbourne Blogger Meetup – Coming Soon

Posted By Darren Rowse 19th of April 2007 ProBlogger Site News 0 Comments

While we’re talking about Australian Bloggers – I thought it was about time that I actually put my money where my mouth is and got together a Melbourne Bloggers Meetup. Alister Cameron and I have been getting our heads together on this and I’ve just signed up as the moderator of the The Melbourne Weblogger Meetup Group at Meetup.com.

This was a previously existing group without a moderator so we thought it worth taking it over instead of starting something new.

So if you’re in Melbourne (or surrounding areas) and are keen to meet up please head over and become a member. Also vote in the poll on meetup times and feel free to suggest a meetup place (preferably in the CBD at a bar or pub we wouldn’t need to book but could just show up to).

We’re looking to hold our first meetup in the coming month.

Looking forward to meeting other Melbourne Bloggers.

  1. Put me down for this one, Darren. It’s a long time overdue.

The pub/bar? It all depends on the numbers I guess. The South Melbourne area has decent choices of bars. A few good bars at Crown as well …

  2. I am stoked to hear that there will be a Melbourne meet-up soon, I was getting jealous of the American love shown and it’ll be great to meet up with some other Melbourne bloggers.

I hate to say it, but nothing beats meeting up with people in person and discussing ideas. I am sure I’ll make some great friends through this and hope we can run it semi-regularly.

  3. OT & Alister Cameron Cross Post.

Since everyone reading this thread will likely be a Melbournian, perhaps you can fill me in on something?

Why is the Docklands (The current destination at my virtual tour blog) virtually deserted? I spent a few days there in November shooting virtual tours etc, and the place was a ghost town. And yet it’s a beautiful place, so what gives?

I have a few ‘southern’ friends, and they talk about things like the ‘vibe’ of a place. Whenever a place was pointed out with ‘vibe’ what I usually saw was dirty, grimey, old and very unappealing. So being all new and shiny I guess the docklands doesn’t have the ‘vibe’?

    Thanks, Aaron Spence.

  4. Most of the docklands is still under development, as such it doesn’t really have the proper infrastructure to support much at the moment. E.g it’s extremely close to the city but it’s almost impossible to get anywhere because there is little public transport and nobody really drives in and around the city.

As such it’s impossible for the government to hold public events (like it does at federation square) because the public doesn’t show up en masse. Also because it’s not sheltered from the bay winds down there, it’s friggin cold all the time. It’ll get there it just needs time, some of the new apartments are amazing but a lot of them are still over priced so they are unoccupied.

  5. The Docklands does have some good cafes. I’ve been to a number of business networking events after hours that have been held along the dock at various cafes, but there have been few other people around at the time. I think there’s probably an ‘ageing’ process it still needs to go through before it becomes as popular as it could be.

I’m in for the Melbourne meetings too!

  6. […] was showing his enthusiasm for the recent talkup of a Melbourne Bloggers meetup which Darren Rowse seems to have personally taken on board (ergo: it’ll get done and be a […]

  7. I would have loved to but im a few hours drive away.. hope it all goes well guys
