How to Integrate a Forum with WordPress

Posted By Darren Rowse 19th of September 2006 Miscellaneous Blog Tips 0 Comments

BlogHelper continues a great series of posts on WordPress with one on a topic that I get asked about quite a bit – Integrating a Forum with WordPress (it’s part of the group writing project – but so on topic for this blog that I thought it deserved a post of its own).

In the post ZMAng runs through a variety of options that bloggers have for such an integration including using external forum software and using WP forum plugins. It’s a really helpful outline of the options.

  1. I wish I had known this earlier, recently I started a Forum for Bloggers and linked it to my WordPress Blog using the plugin ‘page-links-to’.

  2. i used BBpress in my blog. It’s cool forum but many code to modified for integrate user data.

  3. Or, one could not mess around and instead use Expression Engine that has the main CMS/Blogging Module, Forum Module, and a Wiki all integrated with it’s Membership Module. Oh, and Simple eCommerce too.
    ;-)

  4. I’m using Joomla and SMF (Simple Machines Forum), along with the Community Bulletin Board plugin. I had to install a bridge, which means I don’t lose my existing members, but they won’t show up until that member logs in (small price to pay). Anyway, the install was faily simple and the result is a site that’s clean and pulls the forum into place well. However, it’s nice that the contacts from the forum are now shared/integrated into the joomla site. It’s at problogwriters.com.

    Hail

What do you think about this? When it happens?

  6. Any ideas on how to integrate vBulletin?
