Google Analytics Integrates with AdSense

Posted By Darren Rowse 23rd of October 2008 Adsense 0 Comments

One of the earliest requests that I remember seeing AdSense publishers making of Google in forums is for better analytics and stats on their AdSense earnings.

Today (years later) AdSense have announced what we’ve all been suspecting would happen for ages – they’re integrating AdSense with Google Analytics stats.

It isn’t available to all publishers yet (they’re rolling it out gradually) but if it is you’ll see an invitation in your AdSense admin area. Here’s how AdSense describe it:

“you’ll now have access to granular reports that break down AdSense performance both by page and by referring site. Armed with this new data about user behavior, you’ll be able to make more informed decisions on how to improve the user experience on your site and optimize your AdSense units to increase your revenue potential.”

Being able to know which specific pages on your blog are earning a lot (or not much) and which sites traffic earns you the most is going to open our eyes as publishers to many possibilities and hopefully more profitable blogging.

Here’s a video from AdSense that hopefully sheds some more light on this new feature for those of us not yet able to access it.

  1. FINALLY !

I hope now we’ll eventually be able to know exactly which keyword makes you earn more money.

    ciao
    alex

  2. The integration didn’t work to me although I have the same email account on both AdSense and Analytics.

  3. This will be so awesome. I’ve implemented custom channels for my more heavily trafficked pages so I can see for those pages which ones I am making money on, but there are always lot of clicks on adsense on pages where I don’t have custom channels and I’ve always wanted to know where those clicks were coming from. Now I’ll be able to see not only which pages the clicks are coming from but user and time demographics as well. Sweet!

Now just need to wait for the invite.

  4. Sweet! I love it! I’ve been wanting this for a LOOOONNNNNGGGG time, and today my wish comes true. Thanks for the news Darren, I’ll have to go see what it looks like for myself.

  5. Thanks for the video, Darren. People seem excited about this.

  6. This is awesome, but I think it’s a bit dangerous

If you’re tracking this closely and writing for profit and to feed your family, it almost seems like a mercenary way of writing.

Example: lets say you are thinking of writing an article about WordPress themes on your blog about blogs. You remember you talked about that earlier, and go back and look at your stats – great traffic, lousy pay. But man, writing about that Problogger book pays out! Guess what I’m going to write about then?

    ;)

  7. This will also prevent click fraud or will deters click fraud when people see their own IP address in the Analytics window !

  8. Ugh, I’m not able to use it yet. I think this tool will very informative, but I’m curious as to how you can use it to your maximum advantage. Any ideas?

  9. This will be a very cool tool to use. Greg Ellison

  10. I hope the roll out for this is quick, this is going to be really handy. So much better than having channels as the only real tracking option.

  11. that would be a really great tool. As it is now I try and measure that by a variety of sources, but if google gave it to me! Sweet. It sure would make positioning, and what to blog about easier. :)

As always, thanks for the tip.

  12. This is a welcome development. However, I’m not going to hold my breath waiting for Google to invite me…just like their Adsense for feeds….still can’t make that work. Time will tell how quickly they can deploy this to the rest of us peons!

  13. Woohoo! It’s about time! Can’t wait to see this roll out to all users.

@Todd – Do you have Feedburner with Adsense feeds enabled? I too have the same problem with Feedburner Ads enabled.

  14. This will be a very handy utility–particularly being able to tell what content is generating the majority of Adsense revenue. Knowing that should help bloggers determine which types of articles are most profitable on their particular site. Thanks for the heads up on this one, Darren.

  15. Hmmm.
Google is giving freedom to know every thing on Adsense account.I means transparent view of their clicks rates etc.Great…

  16. I also got to check about this new feature. But really cant say anything as of yet. Have to check it thoroughly and then go into conclusions. But I’m very positive about it though.

    Cheers.

  17. I wish Google offered live stats, I’d be perfectly happy paying for that kind of service.

    dan

  18. Didn’t realize this was coming! Could be a big help to those using AdSense. Are there other online ads you would recommend in addition/instead of AdSense? Thanks for any suggestions!

    Momma at http://engineeradebtfreelife.blogspot.com/

  19. It good feature from google analytics .I think it helps find keyword and good report to optimize google adsense.Thank you.

  20. AWESOME!!!

  21. interesting, maybe I will have to try that also. Although I do not like adsense much, because they have such a high payout rate.

  22. I miss having AdSense!

  23. Now if only Google AdSense would give a way to restore an account they’ve deleted without explanation (or at least a live person to ask why!), I might be able to use this….

  24. I can’t wait to see this. I am a data junkie and love to look over which of my pages is making me the most $$$.

    Andy

  25. Awesome! I was wondering when they were going to integrate those two. I wish they wouldn’t roll things out gradually like canned subjects, adsense feeds, that Apploop software. Just make it available to everyone already. I’m impatient.

  26. This is really great…I’m going to check if I have that invite to integrate them now!:)

  27. Well i heard the news..
This is really cool news for all the adsense publishers.

  28. This looks brilliant, although looks like I’ll have to wait a bit for it to filter through to my Google analytics account; I must be bottom of the Google food chain clearly.

  29. I have been waiting for weeks and haven’t received any invitation from them. Is there anyone here who got an invitation? Was it very helpful?

  30. FYI: Google analytic has also updated its tracking code..!!!

old tracking code is still working but…new one is more effective..!!!

as when i was using the old code…my data are not accurate..but once i switched to…new one…its working great..!!!

i can see the detailed result now..!!!

Seems like…Google is gearing up for fight against yahoo analytic!!!

  31. This is great can’t wait to use this :D

    Thanks.

  32. That’s what several of us were waiting for.

STill, these stats can’t tell what kind of ads readers click on,which can be helpful in a bigway.

But still, some extra stats are always helpful..

  33. Atlast !!!!!!

Good move by google. This will help protect many publishers.

  34. Hmm.. Yes!! What all we have done to track the refering traffic clicks on adsense units… But most end up in failure !! This is definitely gonna help everyone !! Lovely feature !

  35. Finally a feature that will help us all. Definitely will help my blog

    http://www.newgadgetsguru.com

  36. Great new for webmasters. Now we need someone to blog about utilizing this new tool our advantage. Especially for new site owners

  37. Thanks for this video. It looks cool. I am looking forward to check my adsense statistics at analytics :)

  38. Hey, I reviewed the same topic on my blog. While I was reading your feed, I saw this today. Well, its quite better to know that Google is providing us with better Adsense reports, yet the best thing I liked about this was “Top Adsense Referrers” report. Strangely enough, you don’t seem to have given any special reference to this data matrix.
Although I have provided a little explanation about this “Top Adsense Referrer” feature on my blog…

    Take Care…

  39. Wow, it’s about time! This could be huge for all of us who use Adsense, and really give us more control over our pages and a much more clear picture of what works and what doesn’t!

  40. It would be helpful in knowing which pages cause a lower CTR. Thanks for the information.

  41. Hi,

Adsense and analytics is the single best thing of ’08 in my opinion :-) I’m using this http://www.keylords.com tool and it will be so cool to have tracking by pages individually so i’ll be able to focus on the most profitable keywords. Because now i get lots of traffic from the keylords.com suggested keywords and need better knowledge of what pages to send my traffic internally. This is going to be great!

  42. google want to make the publisher…enjoy, very great tools…..thanks for info…..

  43. hanks . It looks cool. I am looking forward to check my adsense statistics at analytics :)

  44. I wonder when they’re going to launch this feature on Google Analytics, I’ve been following these news for month, but until today Google has yet to launch it.
    Any idea Darren?

    Regards,
    Lee
