Get Exposure by Sponsoring ProBlogger’s Next Group Writing Project

Posted By Darren Rowse 13th of December 2006 ProBlogger Site News 0 Comments

I’m getting ready to run the last ProBlogger Group Writing Project for 2006 but before announcing the topic I’m looking for some amazing Prizes to tempt participants with (if you don’t know what a group writing project is you can see the last one here).

If you have a prize you’d like to offer the project in return for some pretty nice exposure I’d like to hear from you (read on to find out what I’m looking for).

Previously I’ve limited prizes to 5 – this time I’d like to give participants an extra treat and offer 10!

What Type of Prizes?

Last time the prizes included a week’s stay in an apartment on Spain’s Costa del Sol (valued at 1000 euros), $100 Cash, a $200 voucher from Amazon, a license for Expression Engine ($150) and a gift voucher to iTunes ($150).

That’s the range of prizes that people are offering and I’d like us to hit that type of level (or above) again. Ideally I’d like the prizes to be of some sort of use to bloggers.

What do you get as a Sponsor?

  • Sponsors will receive links in every post on the project during the week that it runs (last time I think this was on about 7 posts).
  • Last project just under 350 bloggers participated and many more read the pages associated with the project.
  • Most participants linked to pages with the sponsors listed. Some of these bloggers linked not only to the project but to the sponsors of it directly.
  • ProBlogger is read by 5000 daily readers via the blog and another 8000 via it’s feeds.

Requirements of Sponsors

  • Possible winners are from around the globe and the prize needs to be able to be received internationally (for example one of the prizes above was converted to cash due to it not being able to be sent overseas).
  • Prizes are awarded to random participants in the project.
  • The companies/individuals offering the gift need to take responsibility to getting it to winners.

I choose which prizes to use based on a number of factors including value, usefulness to bloggers, variety (between prizes) and the suitability of the sponsor to my readership (ie I’m not going to offer prizes from adult or gambling sites).

Last time we had offers for prizes from quite a few people – please don’t be offended if your prize isn’t selected – I will take a maximum of 10.

Submit Your Idea

If you’d like to offer a prize I’ll need to hear from you in the next 48 hours – by Friday at 9am (Melbourne Time). Submit your pitch including prize value, description and where you want your promotional link to point (and the words you’d want the link to say) via my contact form.

Any questions? Shoot me an email via my contact form.

  1. Hey Darren, what is exactly this writing project about and how does it work? As a college student and blogger and possible participant, I believe a laptop would do it for me. It will help with college education, update this old computer and definitely help with blogging. For example, sometimes I am just taking a break under a tree or somewhere and an idea pops into my head and since there is really nothing where to put my ideas, it goes away. I try paper, but its not the same. Sorry for this long comment, but I would love to know more about that writing project.

    Sincerely,

    Ed

  2. Hi Darren,

I have a new project just about ready. I can sponsor an article I will write and the article will be published on 50 of my new blogs. It might not be worth much but it’s something.

    Col :)

  3. HMHM – the last group writing project was here. Hopefully that’ll give you a feel for what they are like.

I’m not looking for ideas for prizes – I’m looking for people to offer prizes.

Please submit prizes via my contact form (following the process outlined above) and not here in comments.

    thanks

  4. Darren,
    great stuff!

for those who haven’t participated in the previous writing projects, prep yourself up.
especially if you’re putting up great content, you can expect a flood of traffic.

if you run a strong content blog, you can expect to build your readership from there. (i’m averaging 3000+ uniques a month now).

ProBlogger writing projects can easily bring you to the next level!

for prize sponsors, the exposure is pretty damn fantastic…!

  5. Looks good. I’ll see if the hotel I work for might like to offer a free stay.

  6. I think I have an idea about the prize.
I know you run a photography blog… so why not a digicam?

A point and shoot may be good.

  7. Couple of X360 Games won’t be bad don’t you think Darren?
Since as i know a lot of blogger are addicted to gaming.

  8. hey guys,
    darren’s looking for sponsors.
if you’ve got a sponsor in mind, point them to this blog entry and get them to put up a prize. they’ll get some great traffic as a result.

  9. Wohoo! Another group writing project. Can’t wait to know more about it. The last one was a real blast.

  10. Yes. Last one was really good.
For participants – lots of cross links and exposure in terms of new readers
For advertisers – lot of participant would like to see who is sponsoring. and also the readers too. So lot of exposure, visits, and links

  11. Hi Darren.
    Can’t wait for this BUT..

Im going on holiday on Tuesday 19th ’till the 25th (I know travelling back on Christmas Day) I really want to participate in the writing project as I have done most times before, so could you say when the project start and finish dates will be.

I really hope that its not in the time that Im away. If it is then could you give me some pointers as to what it will be about so I can prepare an article for you. I just don’t want to miss out!

    Thanks,
    Adnan

  12. Looking forward to the upcoming writing project as I have been slacking a little lately on my posting and this should get me refocused. For anyone that has yet to participate in one of Darren’s writing projects, be sure to jump in on this one as it is a great chance for some added exposure and to find some other outstanding blogs that are related to your niche.

  13. Darren –

When will those offering prizes find out if you have accepted their prize or not?

    Thanks,

    – Steve

  14. I’ll close off submissions tomorrow and then over the next couple of days will select prizes and notify everyone whether they were accepted or not.

So far there are lots of submissions – we probably don’t need any more hosting packages or licenses for different blogging packages/forums etc.

Fun stuff will probably have more chance of being accepted now – particularly actual products of one type or another…. for example, we’ve been offered a Nintendo Wii already, that type of prize will probably go down well as I don’t want to just offer ‘services’ as prizes (not that there is anything wrong with them, it’s just that’s a fair bit of what has been submitted so far).

thanks to everyone who is submitting offers!

  15. […] And finally, Darren over at ProBlogger is gearing up for the next Group Writing Project, which ALWAYS is a fun, communal way to get lots of link of and traffic. Be sure to participate when it happens! […]
