10 Quick Tips for Entrepreneurial Bloggers

Posted By Darren Rowse 19th of May 2014 General 0 Comments

Earlier in the week I was looking through my Sprout Social reports to do some analysis on what tweets I’ve done in the past that have had the most impact in terms of reach, retweets, and replies.

What I found is that among the most retweeted tweets were things I’d said in twitter chats or statements that I made in keynote presentations at conferences – that I’d tested before speaking on Twitter.

As I looked them over, I thought it might be fun to compile them together into a deck of slides to share.

Here is the result: 10 tips that I think are pretty relevant for those wanting to build blogs or a social media presence.

Which do you agree or disagree most?

PS: I’ve been experimenting a bit lately with Slideshare as a way of repurposing content and think there’s a lot of potential. Have you? What have you found that works best for you?

  1. I agree with this most “Do what you are passionate about” because this will really help you to keep going even when you are not making the money.

Try as much as possible to give your reader valuable articles that can change their life. they will keep coming back to your site ” Relationship Building”

That is why i keep coming back to problogger,

    Thanks Darren Rowse

  2. Hey Darren, Excellent tips..rather I should say quotes. Each of them touched something in me. The first 3 of them being the most
It is natural for anyone to feel pity on themselves when they see only a handful of readers on their blogs. But your quote will actually make such bloggers including me.. very big, just because of the fact that the one regular reader to the blog is really benefiting from what I am writing.
Most blogging tutors profess about writing about something that you are passionate about. But your point that, one should be passionate about what he is writing sounds more apt, primarily because of the fact that I can write about anything till the time I have the passion to write.
Once again… some nice points. Enlightening indeed..

  3. When it comes to changing and impacting peoples lives (even if it’s only 1 person); that is the most confirming feedback to receive especially when you’re pouring out your heart. It may not resonate with everybody, it resonated with somebody… In a positive light.

    Thanks for the quotes.

  4. Brilliant thoughts Darren!

This is probably going to be one of your most shared posts.

I see that you’re using slideshare across different platform (Linkedin etc.) a bit more these days.

Would be great to know the outcomes you’ve achieved with it.

    Thanks

  5. Doing one small thing – taking the next small step – towards success is actually a big thing. Rather than sitting around and dreaming about big projects and big things, if we start doing small things that matter, progress is on the way :)

All are great tips and insights Darren.

PS: Yes, Slideshare has been a good source of traffic to me!

  6. I love the 1st advice…

  7. I am a “Entrepreneurial Bloggers”, so this awesome TIPS help me a lot. This tip can my whole plan. Thanks for sharing this type of powerful article..

  8. I so loved number one! I’m still quite zeolous about writing my blog posts and my motto has always been very close to what you have stated. That whether I have 10 readers or 1000 readers, I’ll still blog because I believe what I’m sharing is very relevant.

  9. Hey Darren,

Thanks for these quotes, definitely more than a few in there that apply to me!
I particularly appreciate the first quote about maybe only having one reader who your blog makes a difference for.
Definitely a motivator making me realise that my efforts aren’t a complete waste of time!

    Thanks again!

  10. Hello Darren. Thanks for the sound advice. For me “being passionate about what you do” is what makes it for me and keep people going through rough times.
    Thanks for Sharing.

  11. Blogging is all about passion, well said Darren Rowse, “Be Passionate What You Do”, being a 12 Years Old Entrepreneur and Blogger, this slideshow is really motivational.

  12. Hi Darren, I agree and like all of your 10 Pieces of Advice … and have a candidate for #11.

Do not even try to CREATE dreams, fears and aspirations in people, because you’ll likely fail miserably, but you can sure find them – know your market before you start swimming in it.

The second one seems especially useful: “When you’re tempted to compare yourself to someone else … compare yourself to when you started.”

There have been numerous studies that show how nothing motivates like success. But of course “success” is but a story in the mind. Reframing or refocusing in order to see the success you’ve already achieved (no matter where you are) seems like a valuable exercise, especially at those times when the motor slows and confidence wanes. In fact, it’s probably an exercise worth making a habit of.

    Nice one, Darren.

  14. Awesome post tips find here.I am social media worker and writer it’s really helpful. Thanks for your great advice, will keep it.

  15. “99.9% of great bloggers are not awesome on Day 1. Their awesomeness is the accumulation of value they create over time”.

I completely agree this submission and it goes to show that bloggers can be great if they strive to create and build on value over time!

I have left this comment in kingged.com – the content syndication and social marketing platform for Internet marketers, where this post was shared.

  16. Make your next step is an invaluable takeaway for me in this slide. It goes to show that with every little step, we are closer to success than having the imagination of reaching for the stars!

  17. Hi Darren,

1 works for me. We are enough already, even if nobody is listening. Why? You’re on your way to become a game changer if you listen to your intuition and keep on, keeping on.

    Thanks!

  18. Hi Darren,

Thanks for this wonderful post, i really learn alot from the tweets. Any blogger that choose to always compare himself to other will surely fail.

Putting yourself into competition with other bloggers is like digging a hole of failure for yourself. As a blogger, you are meant to keep improving, visit top blogs like problogger.net to read and learn more about blogging.

As you stated in the slideshare, success is more about doing the things you know should do.

Thanks for this wonderful post and have a nice day

  19. Hi,
It’s the best tips for me “what is one small thing that you can do today to move you a step closer to your dream also 99.9% of great bloggers are not awesome on day 1….. Their awesomeness is the accumulation of the value they create over time.”
To respect your post now a days i am trying to make good community on social networking site specially Facebook,Google plus, Twitter,LinkedIn etc.

  20. Thanks for the slideshare Darren, I love it!

Every slide made me nod. You are right with the points there. Like for example on the first slide, you said having one reader, if it changes their life, your blog is big enough. Quality is more important than quantity. :)

Comparing yourself to someone else won’t help that much, it could be frustrating to know you are very different, moreover, if you compare yourself to you when you started will surely amaze you.

To wrap it up, I love them all. It is good to read!

I found this post shared on Kingged.com, the Internet marketing social networking site, and I “kingged” it and left this comment.

  21. Thanks Darren for this nice advice. I love the way you refer to “being passionate about what you do”. It is a must for every succesful entrepreneurs.

  22. Great slideshow Darren. Really encouraged me to continue and to race forward than what I am today. After reading all these thoughts, I can say that success is a kind of relative term and not absolute. That’s why you said my basic would be advanced for my readers, right? Kind of I guess.

    Thanks for the motivation.

  23. My biggest piece of advice would be to stop talking about what you want to do, and actually take the first step towards doing it. I am guilty of this myself, as I am someone that loves to plan things out. The problem is that most of the planning I do never comes to anything, so it’s simply wasted time.

I’ve discovered over my years of working online that it is often worth actually trying something out, rather than wasting hours analyzing whether or not it will be worth the time or not. This especially true with niche planning, and I’ve discovered that really, any niche can be very profitable.

  24. Hi Darren,

I believe that if you do what you love and share it with the world, the money will come.

I really liked the slide number 4. “Be passionate what you do.” I’m CEO of a company which we are passionate about what we do and the difference we are doing to the world.

I’m sure you love what you do too! Thank you so much for taking the time to write this post!

  25. “be passionate about what you do” because too often I do what I am passionate about instead and …

“what many bloggers consider basic is advanced to readers” because its too easy to forget the value of our expertise

loving the slideshare tool as well

  26. Comparing you to yourself is always the best you can do.
    Love it!

  27. Nice one bro, passionate writing is one that impresses me and makes me Blogging, comparing of two blogs and ranks was my greatest mistake in Blogging, for I noticed 3) things when I compare my blog with other people. 1) my Blog don’t progress, each and every time I try to compare my Blog with others, I found out that mine remains stagnant while. Keep admiring other Blogs. 2) my Global rank remain the same, as i Make every move o monitor my competitor, I in a way Contributed to there daily page views and CTR on there site, sometimes I Click on there ads unknowing, not knowing how I am helping them,3) I spend more, the more I try to improve than my competitor I spend more, both on social network, and buying of traffic, while my competitors do so with no cost, I agree with what @ eve says comparing your self to your self is the best.

  28. Hi Darren,

This article is a timely one… One thing I know for certain when it comes to blogging is “passion.” I am an advocate of passionate blogging because it is the only sure way to growing in your entrepreneurial endevours.

Again being yourself and remaining focused in what you blog about helps you make some good decisions which in the long run will favour not only your blogging career buy your personal well-being.

Once again, thanks for an awesome post…
