Continuing our discussion of things you should be doing right now to improve your blog, today’s tip is:
11. Link to your hosting or blog theme provider with an affiliate link
I spoke with one craft blogger recently who has a medium-sized blog and told me that her third-strongest income stream came from two links in her sidebar that simply pointed people to her blog host, and to the WordPress theme she uses. Each was an affiliate link.
Around the links she displays a short blurb on why she uses the services, along with a no-pressure call to action for other bloggers in her niche who are looking for such services. She also includes a note saying that the links are affiliate links, and that sales helped her run her site.
She saw weekly sales from each link and, over a year, they added up to a five-figure income (particularly as the hosting commissions were recurring).
Do you link to your blog’s host or theme provider with affiliate links?
Hosting affiliate programs tend to be some of the best in my opinion, the low monthly rate and the necessity of having a host for new bloggers tends to have them convert well, and the year long plans are often high payout.
BTW, tiny spelling error: “pointed people to her blog hose”, should be host.
Georgina, in the first sentence, I think you meant to say “blog host”, not “blog hose”.

This is an *excellent* idea. A section on what powers the site, with links – affiliate where available – is something that every site could have. It’s not going to hurt anything at all, and you’ll probably make a few bucks on it over time.
There’s no reason not to do it. I’m going to do it for my money sites right now.
I usually add a link at the footer saying: This blog is hosted at “hosting” using “Theme” and yah they are affiliate link. Though sidebar one is more useful but this also works for a blog in my niche..!!
I have affiliate links on my sidebar for my blog host provider and my wordpress theme but after half a year I only had 1 sale so far… but now I get it! I should add a “short blurb on why I use these services, along with a no-pressure call to action”. Thanks for sharing this tip! I hope it translates to more income!

I was just considering how best to do this. My idea was to have the affiliate image link to post where I describe why I love my host and then have the affiliate link to the host but I was concerned that it would be too many steps.
I did put up a logo of my host but dint find any success with it ! Maybe i should try the other way around.
I’ve never even though about it before. I am not sure I would want to do that, because to me it would just look weird if I have links on my site to my theme and hosting provider. But I never tried and after reading this post I am thinking about it.
I don’t think I would even know how it would fit on my site, where can I possibly place it? Because I can’t place it at the bottom of my page, I have a disclaimer there already and a privacy policy link, so definitely not there it would be too much. If you have any suggestions please let me know. Thank you
