Take the 7 Link Challenge Today #7links
Today I thought it might be fun to do a bit of a fun challenge together that draws on a number of things that I’ve previously taught here on ProBlogger (see below for what these teachings are).
The idea is to publish a post that is a list of 7 links to posts that you and others have written that respond to the following 7 categories. Your links should be to:
- Your first post
- A post you enjoyed writing the most
- A post which had a great discussion
- A post on someone else’s blog that you wish you’d written
- Your most helpful post
- A post with a title that you are proud of
- A post that you wish more people had read
You might like to add a few explanations to different links – for example to talk a little about why you enjoyed writing a post or what you like about the post on another blog that you link to or why you regret the post you regret.
The main aim of doing this challenge is to create a list post that highlights some of the posts in your archives to new readers (a sneeze page), that links out to another blog and that hopefully is a little fun (and not too much work) to do.
If you tag your posts or are going to tweet a link to it – use #7links as a tag to help the meme continue.
I’ll post my own 7 links tomorrow here on ProBlogger – stay tuned!
PS: once you’ve written your 7 link challenge post – link to it in comments below so we can take a look!

Thanks for the challenge. Helps a lot in defining a tone of voice for the blog. Here is the link http://ksoliv.wordpress.com/2010/07/15/7-links-ou-o-resumo-da-opera

Take a look! Thought this was a great idea. I just moved my blog a few months ago and I was using a poor blogging platform before that let me import, but not export my years of archives so I lost a few ( hundred ) blog posts. Needless to say I did the challenge non the less! Enjoy!

Done! We do one of these monthly, but it is not a bad idea to help introduce older posts to new readers.
http://www.avesnoir.com/archives/706
I personally did not take this as literally as making the post about the 7link challenge, and also interpreted”A post on someone else’s blog that you wish you’d written” to be more about a post which was either most inspired or contributed by a great writer in the context of my site. I felt the original proposition puts us in a position of judging someone else’s site or content as better which I don’t see as productive.

Darren,
Having your site back-linked to from hundreds (thousands?) of other blogs should give your site a significant boost in SE mojo and traffic – please provide follow up if you can, to give us all some sense of what that effect is for your site.
Thanks!

Someone asked earlier about the results from the traffic ‘mojo’ you may have gotten from this post.
I’d be interested also, although I will say that I saw my own blog in response to this challenge jump pretty high. Which, I think, would get even MORE traffic to this blog since I linked to it.
Interesting experiment with linking and ‘viral’.

I did the challenge for my Blogiversary (today) so it’s finally posted. What a great way to wrap up the past year.

Hey Darren!!
It’ a great idea, but I suggest two variations on it:
* I do it a top level page, in order to new visitors could have a general idea of the blog, and get convinced to subscribe on RSS or e-mail to it.
* I do it as a “report of the month”, centering not in all the blog, but in the last month history. So, it keep changing and also as an index for previous month writing.
* As I’m changing from a two languages blog to a multilingual one, I need time to verify my numbers and to get more comments, so I announced it to august 1st.
Of course, it’s a little different on my case, because I do the blog bilingual (English and spanish), so some titles that are great word-games are lost on translation; or some post will be most commented in one language than another. My “7links” will had different results than “7ligas” option.
Thanks again and I hope you and the readers visit my blog to see how I adopted the idea!!
Saludos,
Gonzalo.

Here’s my 7Links post (I added an 8th since I saw ProBlogger used a “most viewed” one as well):
http://www.fencing.net/2994/7-best-posts-on-fencing-net/
It was fun, but there is so much content I didn’t even have a chance to look at since I’ve got several years worth of stuff on there.

Though my blog is still somewhat new, I found this activity to be a great way to highlight some of my first (and therefore least read) posts! Thanks!

Thanks for the Challenge, Darren.
I learnt a lot by taking it, as I’ve described in my post, but I guess that was why you suggested it! Clever!
It took a long time but it’s made me ’stretch my foot to the end of my blanket’ and push myself beyond my good old comfort zone.
Now I’m goind to read through these comments and keep on learning!

Seem to have missed this until I read Nick Daw’s latest email.
Great idea, gave me a chance to have a good think about how far my site has come since 2004, as well as what I might change.

How could I have missed this fantastic exercise?
I thought, for sure, Darren didn’t send this one to me… until I checked my Problogger folder and there it was. LOL!
I will do the exercise and come back and post it here. Thank you Darren. You’re the best!
