How Many Times Do You Tweet Links to New Blog Posts? [POLL]

Posted By Darren Rowse 19th of May 2010 General 0 Comments

I asked this question over on Twitter on the weekend and it was fascinating to hear the answers and see some of the thinking behind what different people do.

I thought I’d run it as a poll and open it up for some wider discussion here on the blog.

I’d love to get your comments on this topic. Why do you do the number of tweets that you do? Why don’t you do more/less? Do you use any tolls/automation to manage it – if so which ones?

Here’s some of the responses to my tweet asking the question:

“I only tweet a link to it once. I’ll tweet a second time if theres something interesting in the comment section.” – JadeCraven

“One. Sometimes two. Three if it really rocks. But I post daily and don’t want my Twitter to be an endless ME ME ME feed.” – CatherineCaine

“I tweet my new blog posts only once…to me, more is spammy, even tho I know not everyone will see it the 1st time…” – QuipsAndTips

“I always tweet a link straight after I post. Then maybe the next day depending on the post time, for those who may have missed it” – CptTremendous

“I space it out over days/times. Maybe btw 5-8 over a weeks time.” – MyMelange

“I usually retweet about three times, one in a.m., one in afternoon, one at night. Covers time zones.” – docudramaqueen

“Depends on importance and global relevance. If really important to me & relevant also to US audience, I may tweet twice in Aus..” – divinewrite

“Once. More than once is spam and makes followers unfollow and complain.” – Shuttlecock

  1. i never do..only 1 or 2 times.It’s very boring posting blog posts on Twitter.Linking to Facebook is better….

  2. I usually only tweet once…but I’m beginning to think I should do it twice at different time periods. Everyone’s schedule is different and my tweet may get buried before many people have a chance to see it.

  3. I only ever tweet each new blog post once because I have my blogs setup through twitterfeed to post to twitter each time I update (so I guess technically I am not tweeting the new blog post at all!)
I have also used twaitter (a twitter company) to scheduled my tweets, because scheduled tweets can be useful to me as my work schedule can be all over the place, and used the retweeting (posting the same tweet again) feature for a while, but am beginning to tire of it as I feel it is somewhat spammy, and would prefer to just tweet new fresh content instead.

  4. I tweet when I’m writing the article. Then I tweet when it’s published. So it depends on how many articles I’m writing that week. I see a good response when I tweet before and after.

  5. I usually only tweet once…but I’m beginning to think I should do it twice at different time periods. Everyone’s schedule is different and my tweet may get buried before many people have a chance to see it.

  6. usually I tweet once. I agree that tweeing twice, 3 times a day, etc is spam. Though I think everything depends on the topic and comments given to it. If I find something interesting there I can tweet several times

  7. I do it only once. I don’t want to spam it by getting repeatative.

  8. I only like to tweet one time of my blog post. Well I am going to big fan of retweet, whenever I get interesting article I never forget to retweet the post.

  9. Only when it’s written, but comments here gave me a lot of ideas, so that may (and will!) change.

  10. I have my WordPress set up so it automatically tweets when I publish a new post. I never thought about tweeting it more but after reading these comments I think its a good idea. I usually post in the morning, so I’ll probably start throwing a tweet out there in the late afternoon on the day I publish and maybe one more tweet the next day (right now i’m only blogging on mon and weds).

  11. I tweet only once for a post.I never tried doing second time because i don’t want to consider me as spammer.

  12. i never use tweet for my new blog because i dont know what the adventage? eny body could explain it?

  13. I tweet only once for a new blog post. I usually think once is enough for a post.

  14. I tweet once for a blog and sometimes two but not more than two.

  15. Personally i only tweet once. I have herd if you tweet more than once you could be considered a spammer.
