How to Make Your Blog Pay the Bills [Bootcamp for Bloggers Starts Soon]

leo-babauta.jpgRegular readers of ProBlogger know the name Leo Babauta – creator of the massive blog ZenHabits (among other successful blogs). He’s guest posted here on ProBlogger numerous times and we’ve recommended what he does numerous times.

Leo’s famous for taking Zen Habits from nothing to one of the biggest blogs in the world with over 150,000 subscribers within a pretty short time frame. Off the back of his success he’s written a best selling book and launched a number of best selling e-books. He’s full time in what he does and every time I speak with him is experimenting with new ways to build his web presence.

A-List Blogging Bootcamp

One of Leo’s projects that he’s been running for a while now is the A-List Blogging Bootcamps. These intense 5 day training courses for bloggers have been a big success and he’s about to run another one called How to Make Your Blog Pay the Bills.

The course runs between 16-20 May and is an intense burst of learning through a variety of mediums including Podcasts, articles, videos, mentoring, daily live webinars with Q&A and daily action steps to keep you on track.

While there is some live interaction, there’s also lots that you can take away from it and digest in your own time for the next month after the course.

I participated in the teaching of the last bootcamp and was really impressed by the excitement that I saw among Leo’s students and so I’m also being featured in a session during this Bootcamp. Other guest presenters include Daniel Scocco and Jonathan Fields.

Learn more about how you can be involved in How to Make Your Blog Pay the Bills.

Disclaimer: I am a fan and supporter of Leo and what he does. I’m also a presenter in this course as well as an affiliate for it.

  1. Hi Darren!
Sounds like a truly amazing course. I’ll have to take a look. I’ll like courses that offer daily action steps, it keeps you on track and forces you to do something to improve your blog.

    Hi,
Yeah, it’s all over the web and every blogger is talking about it. And importantly, people do recommend this product above many other paid resources. I was told that it increase the no. of subscribers by 50% on a blog. I may give it a shot.

    -Roshan Ahmed :)

  3. Josh Garcia says:

    Hey Darren,

I’ve been seeing this everywhere. A lot of folks are promoting it. I have to check it out!

    Chat with you later…
    Josh

I admire what Leo has done, it is very rare to see a blog succeed in such a short time like his has, He broke the mould in the blogging world and dared to try something completely way out there, his adless blog and simple layout has proved to all bloggers at least one thing ‘you dont need anything else but great content’ something all bloggers can learn from.

  5. Hey Darren,
That’s awesome to hear. and the course look really amazing.
Leo ..is really done awesome work on his blog and he is one of my favorite blogger through.

    Thanks,
    Dev

  7. Thx for the excellent blog entry on working in home. I appreciate it. Thanks!

  8. Mike Roberts says:

I was just thinking about this yesterday, what makes an all-star blogger? here is what I came up with:

The most successful people online today are:

    - Well networked
    - Clearly branded
    - Consistent
    - Hard working
    - Produce clear, compelling and helpful content
    - The bulk of their content is focused on the reader
    - They are interesting characters who lace their story artfully in the background.
    - They take action. Not waiting until everything is “perfect”.

I’m taking these items and implementing them, to whatever extent is possible, on a daily basis.

  9. corrie howe says:

Couldn’t come at a better time for me. Thanks, I’m going to check it out.

  10. David says:

Nice to know, i like the name “Bootcamp” :) it reminds me of the army service

  11. Darren, I love your “pay it forward” approach.

I get the feeling your approach to life is one of “the glass is half full” and not “the glass is half empty”.

  12. Blogger Den says:

It’s certainly not easy. Nobody has just launched a blog and had it pay their bills every month since launch, but then again anything worth having is never easy to acquire.

  13. Making your blog pay is a very good subject for a Bootcamp. As Blogger Den has said it isn’t easy and we are all able to learn more about this subject, so I look forward to the course being released.

  14. Leo is an absolute gem. A few years ago when I was launching a blog he gave me some amazing advertising space. Needless to say the traffic that came through was incredible – he’s a genuinely wonderful bloke.

  15. Gwen McGreen says:

I agree with @Dev | Technshare The course seems to be amazing and worth trying.
Is it being advertised some where? How can one enroll to participate?
I will recommend this to all the entrepreneurs I interact with.
    Thanks for sharing.

  16. I have been involved with Leo’s Bootcamps since he launched the first one in August 2009 and I can fully vouch for the value he provides.

My own blog only started taking shape after applying Leo’s teachings.

This is his third Bootcamp and builds on the teachings of the previous two.

Best of all, once you take part in this Bootcamp, you are invited to join Leo’s A-List Blogging Club with a small nominal monthly fee – and being a Club member entitles you to access all the materials from the previous Bootcamps.

  17. I had no idea Zen Habits has 150,000 followers, wow. He probably just gained another 1000 from this post. This guy knows his stuff.

  18. Alison Kerr says:

Leo’s Bootcamp material is wonderful. I’m excited about this camp.

I’m already in the A-List Blogging Club and I have to say the support there is wonderful; it’s a great group of intelligent, helpful, genuine people who give great feedback.

  19. Dan Wheeler says:

How long did it take to get 150,000 subscribers? That is very impressive! I had no idea the site was that successful.

  20. Jude Bellido says:

Great post. Can I ask you a question? I want to start a blog as well that is why I was searching on the internet for blogs to use as examples, do you find you have to be perfect in your grammar to have people like what you write? I have been told I write like I speak, so I was wondering if that was a bad thing.

  21. @Dan Wheeler – From memory I think Leo had 40k – 80k RSS in the first year of Zen Habits. Could be wrong though.

  22. $449 is bit expensive.

I think he should give first or first two days as free of cost. If I like it than we can proceed for next step.

  23. Mike Roosa says:

The course does look cool. What do you suggest i tell the wife this time?

  24. venus says:

sound kool , if I can attend I will..

  25. Joel Gray says:

The course looks nice. I will try to attend if I get the chance. Feel free to visit me back!

  26. I have always been interested in Day Trading to generate some profits on a part-time basis. However, due to high risks at stake, I have not had the courage to take the plunge. I have read some excellent reviews on EA trading, I think I will try it whilst I learn the ropes of how to actually do Day Trading on my own.
