Your fantatic blog is definitely worth a read if anyone comes across it. Im lucky I did because now Ive got a whole new view of this. I didnt realise that this issue was so important and so universal. You definitely put it in perspective for me, thanks for the nice info.

Like you, I've started to many blogs because I thought they would be good Money makers. I've also been Something of a domain name investor over the years and it can be difficult for me to pass over good ones when I find them.

Mediocre stuff has been deleted over the years but most is either Sold - in full as well as domain only - or been left online as static archives. I have successfully re launched a few but like you said, that only works in some cases.

I think the post number 5 is very interesting. You never know what you may do in the future with the blog you don't want to continue. Just a few years ago, all the sites were like that - static without any new updates. Give it a rest for some time and focus on what you want to do later.

However, if your decision is to sell it, just sell it and get that thought out of your mind and concentrate on the new project you have in your mind. You have only to make sure what you're doing is the right thing.

I've got a site I've re-purposed for the third time now. Main reason was changing interests over the years - found that it's much easier to write about a newer more compelling interest than keep slogging after the old one. Key is to keep the site name generic.

This post and the previous post are some what depressing to me. It makes you think about the option of ceasing the posting on your blog.

Currently, that is not an option for me because my blogs are still growing and have plenty of potential. Still, wondering what if kind of creeps me out.

My blog has a PR-4 but covers a wide range of topics. After reading 31DBBB, I decided to concentrate of my current passion on WELLNESS. However, before long I got some positive suggestion to narrowing down my topics, and I thought it's time to move my WELLNESS topic into a new blog and keep the old blog as is prior to change it into a WELLNESS blog. If I want to write any topic other than WELLNESS I will post it on my current blog.

Few years ago i had a blog on a subdomain of my main website. The main website was doing pretty well. The blog on the subdomain received low traffic by but i never linked to it from the main website. I was not paying to much effort to the blog, i was just writing the articles.

Suddenly, i deleted the blog. I didn't had any reason for doing this, It was just a spontaneous thing, i felt the need to do some cleaning and keep things clean. I considered the blog garbage and i moved it to the trash.

The articles are now fine on buzzle and other article directories. I counted tens of thousands of views on buzzle only.

I have been blogging for less than a year and have been earning a few thousand dollars from my blog. However, as I would like to be personal, I used my name as a domain.

I have had friends from this blog as well as those people who wanted to bring me down. As a result my site was compromised and malwares were uploaded. I don't know the exact cause.

Now I have a dilemma whether to keep the domain or completely shut it down.I can't seem to get rid of the infection on my blog.

I am not a really a techie and I don't know how to get rid of these viruses or trojans. I just don't want to be accused of being part of those spreading malwares in the web.

If there is still a way to salvage, let me know. I would greatly appreciate your help.

I've sold blogs, I've retired them and I've redirected them. It all depends on the topic, content and traffic as to what I actually do.

Although I do prefer to sell! I sold a couple on Flippa - but had some luck with ebay too.

The best case happened to be offering my site to affiliates I used who knew how much I made with them and could imagine how much I made with others. It was the easiest and quickest transaction ever.

Not going to offer an alternate suggestion, but offer a reason why deleting the blog, IMO, is a bad idea.

I noticed a comment from Karol who refuses to go into archive mode and deletes her blogs, even one with what seemed like a considerable following.

Before deleting a blog, always keep in mind that it's a component of a "web" and look at how many back links you have pointing to your posts. Bloggers are frequently referencing other bloggers ideas within their own. In many cases, that external piece of content is central to their post... without that context, their point loses relevance.

So before you delete, consider the effects that your action will have on your fellow bloggers.

IMO,

For me it depends on the content, for blog with long lasting content such as self motivation or picture gallery, I won't delete or sell it, I just keep it for my collection :P But for blog with dynamic content which needs to be updated everyday, such as about celebrity or news, I choose to sell it because the blog will be useless if there's no new content.

Just as a general rule, if you no longer wish to continue blogging, you shouldn't ever let your domain delete without at least trying to sell it beforehand! There are great domain name marketplaces available with tons of viewership looking to snatch up domains with traffic.

Try these to start:

Sedo.com
Pool.com
Snapnames.com

Good luck!
