I am very impressed with the article I have just read. I wish the you can continue to provide so much practical information and unforgettable experience to your readers. There is not much to state except the following universal truth: Getting a programmer to write user documentation is like giving a cat a bath. I will be back.

ROTFL, or not! sorry someone else called you "Kelli" and I didn't go back to look, guess we aren't so much the same as I thought. Uggh, it irritates me when people misspell my name and I just did it to you.

Thanks Kelli for this post. I had to go back and read it about 3 times to get past the drivel into the actual meat of the post, but once I did I was VERY glad I kept at trying to figure "you" out. LOL!

So, a couple days ago I contacted my very first person ever about guest posting. You know what happened? I got a "thanks, but no thanks" letter back. Oh! Ouch! I was so proud of that post but they weren't, I guess. LOL!

I have been blogging for about 1.5 years and have guest posted a few times. Those have all been because someone emailed me and asked me to guest post. I have never seen traffic spikes from them because they were smaller than me, but I have gotten a couple regular readers from them and that is what counts.

Anyway, I wiped up my tears, dusted my pants, and sent that post out to another person... only, I am pretty sure I am going to get another "suck eggs" response. Maybe my post isn't good? Or maybe I am the only person interested in time management? Who knows.. eventually that post is going on a blog that isn't mine, dad gum it!

Ok, hmmm sorry about the book, I am logging off now. :-)

Kelli - yep, strange huh? Two of us in this huge world and same spelling, too.. As my kids say, "cooooo-oooky man!" :-D

If your point was to create “controversy” and therefore interest in your post – and I have to believe that must be your goal – then I understand your comments but if that is what you really believe – just wow !

Internet marketing is a perfect example of behavior evolutionary psychology in action.

Start up costs are negligible, you can work part time whilst your establishing yourself, it hasn’t been about about the “technology” for quite a few years now and yet the industry is still totally dominated by men.

Given how “level” the playing field is there is no logical reason for the very small % of women making a full time living online beyond being based in evolutionary psychology.

As usual if I am wrong then I am still happy as just like in Internet Marketing the fewer people “get it” the easier life is for those of us that understand how things work.

Since you tie EP in as a loose anecdote rather than a real basis for your argument about guest posts on blogs, I don’t see much value in seriously debating its merits here.

Awesome post. I think most bloggers who read tips on how to do guest posting are the ones who never do guest posts in the first place. I dont know but it seems like most bloggers just really couldn't get it. Most of the times they would do just 2-3 guest posts and expect something huge in return.

Anyways I recently made a post about guest posting too, which I feel is quite relevant to this post http://www.melvinblog.com/2010/01/guest-post-rejected/

I also wrote an RSS tutorial for my site to encourage readers to subscribe to my feed, and I added a pretty big feed icon to my sidebar so that no one can miss is. I hate it when blogs make it hard to subscribe.

Kelly... Your hasty mischaracterization of evolutionary psychology is very cynical and misleading. It's kind of like saying you don't like physics because nuclear weapons are bad.

"Throwing the baby out with the bath water" is a cliche that seems to fit.

Since you tie EP in as a loose anecdote rather than a real basis for your argument about guest posts on blogs, I don't see much value in seriously debating its merits here. I do think it's important to point out that your extremely deterministic interpretation of evolutionary psychology is one that evolutionary psychologists would reject.

Thank you for such insightful recommendations. I am new to blogging and sincerely appreciate this straightforward advice and encouragement! I am in the genesis of my research into blogs similar to my own (therapeutic entertainment) with which to interact and establish relationships. Your entry has multiplied my courage to pursue these endeavors. Kindest regards to you and yours!

Loved this article. It was long, and wandered around a bit, but it was thoroughly enjoyable. There is just one thing I'd like to point out. Not all single author blogs are out of the reach of guest bloggers. I write a single author blog, but as long as they were on topic, didn't swear (or at least *ed out some letters) and didn't abusively post affiliate links or overly link to their blog, I'd be interested in posting guest articles. For me, it's win-win. I get new content which might interest new readers, and they get a link or two back to their blog. But yes, friendship very important there.

Great article, I actually read start to finish properly which I only do if an author really grabs me (otherwise I am more of a gem scanner)... I am thinking about the scary move to guest posting - I like the thought about it being a gift. Thanks.

Guest posts are truly needed, but it is a nice job to get to the point where someone asks you to post a guest post. It is hard for starting bloggers to be successful , but luckily we have Yaro Starak

Kelly, thank you for posting this. I am new and all to blogging and your post really motivated me. So far I have sent one guest post on another site and it was accepted. How exciting!

This small teeny weeny success has given me more motivation to start doing more guest posts. I hope others will follow your advice and start guest posting too. The benefits are tremendous.

Kelly, your article arrived in my inbox just as I was editing my first guest blogger - and I love it! I have a site for emerging artists, and it's all about interviewing the experts who offer their wisdom for the benefit of my audience. Guest posting just seems like the next step.

Hmm... the thing about guest posting (I've found) is that it takes time, commitment, and an established blogger who's willing to let you guest post.
Having said that, your guest post rocks! Thank you for bashing evoloutionary psychology, that stuff really gets my goat :)
