What Are You Doing with Your Blog Over the Holidays?

What are you doing with your blog over the holidays?

As the end of the year draws nearer I’ve been pondering what to do with my blogs over the Christmas/New Years break.

In the past I’ve done a number of things including:

  • Blogging on as normal
  • Getting a Guest in to cover the blog over a week
  • Running a special series of ‘lighter’ posts
  • Running a variety of guest posts

This year I’m going to do something I’ve not done before – take a break from blogging for a whole week.

I will be putting up a few posts over the week that are wrap up posts looking back at the year that has been on different topics – but these will be written in advance and set to go off so that I can have a break from blogging between Christmas and New Years. I won’t be having the week off completely though – I have a couple of other writing commitments that I need to finish off so will use the week to tackle those.

  1. Darren,

I will actually be working very hard on my blog to work out all the little things that I have been needing to get done and then write posts. Need to finish the year and month out strong.

Additionally, I am getting together a contest and a draft of an ebook.

Yes, I will be busy but I love it!

    Best Regards,
    Derek

  2. Firstly thanks for the wonderful articles you always been putting up.

I’m planning to shift from blogger to WordPress these holidays!!!

    Happy holidays Darren :-)

  3. Since this is my first blogging holiday I have been pondering that question myself. I’m actually finding it more difficult to get motivated to write right now.

So I’ll probably try and keep writing to better my discipline but keep the posts short and lite. Either way, I’ll be spending a great deal of time freshening up my lifestyle design blog in order to make it more applicable to my readers.

    Happy Holidays everyone…

  4. I plan on writing at least one to two posts during the holidays. I have devoted so much time in my blog about Holiday Organization, I would be surprised if something doesn’t come up that I don’t want to talk about!

  5. Well.. Since I’m just a beginning blogger I have to use my free time to increase quality content on my blog. Hope it will give great results soon..
    Anyway, Marry Christmas everybody!

  6. Well, I haven’t been blogging for very long (I just hit 50 posts, only been doing it since November) but I automate the actual posting of articles by setting them up to post at a predetermined time without my having to do it manually. Scheduling posts takes a lot of the worries about consistency out of the equation.

  7. We are going to switch to personal security and internet security for a couple post between Christmas and News Day.

  8. I will be….
    – Blogging as usual but perhaps at different times of the day so I can also enjoy the holidays.
    – Working on SEO to overcome the damage that Google has single-handedly done.
    – Networking with other bloggers to trade regular blogging posts we all seem to be doing and help lighten the work load and in turn increase SEO/PR.
    – Stripping off the old and implementing the new ads for after Christmas.

A blogger’s work is never done. The only difference in owning this type of business and a brick & mortar business is that you don’t have to sweep the floor. You just run a scan to carry out the garbage.

Merry Christmas to all! Please hit the pause button on your blog for a few hours to celebrate the reason for the season.

  9. I am planning on posting until Christmas, when on the 26th I am heading out on the road until New Year’s. I definitely have two major posts planned out, one to wrap up what I’ve done in 2009, and the other to outline what I have planned for 2010. Since I’m working towards a two month trip to the Philippines, I’ve got a lot to work on.
Hopefully having to take a few days off from blogging won’t hurt my growth since I’m pretty new to the blogging world.

  10. I work on all of my blogs and sites, because clients aren’t wondering why I haven’t gotten their work done!

  11. I will be taking a short break from my blog and at the same time, to keep up with things, brainstorming any ideas I have come to me about improving my blog and business and so fourth. After the holidays, putting those ideas to use and see where I go!

  12. I will be taking a short break and brainstorming ideas for the future of my blog. When the holidays are over I’ll put those ideas to work and see where things go from there.

  13. I would really like to take a break, and use the time to spend with family and to brainstorm new ideas for my blog. Since it’s so new, reflecting seems a bit premature, and I’m not sure what a “writing on lighter topics” really means…however, I think if I really want to keep momentum and continually growing…I will need to put in the work, even over the holidays.

    Happy holidays everyone!

  14. I think I will blogging on as normal because I have more time.

Greetings from Germany and I wish you a merry christmas and a happy new year!

    Heiko Gellert

  15. I write some articles before I relax in holidays and let them post automaticly with WordPress. I make a schedule where every day a post is published, except saturday and sunday.

  16. Just updating the looks of the site as well as planning to add some more categories….

  17. My guess is that my traffic will be lower over the holidays and folks have other things to do then read reviews about stadiums. That being said, I hope to be active every single day during the holdiays, and hope that that activity helps to gain an advantage and even a surge in visits, if not immediately, then after the first of the year.

I’m also going to spend some time reflecting on the year, and expressing my gratitude to those individuals who have helped me go from concept to fledgling blog in the past 4 months.

The hard part will be escaping from family time to get some time in on the site, and it may mean some late nights after everyone goes to bed, but hey, maybe I’ll get to see Santa Claus pop down the chimney…

  18. I will be spending some time developing a blog strategy for 2010. The 4th quarter of ’09 featured a new job, relocating to a new city, traveling home on weekends get the house market-ready… but not much blogging. It’s a great time for some resolutions!

  19. I will be blogging as normal!

  20. I usually write a blt more and schedule in advance, since most are evergreen and hardly matter whether I post now or a year later.

  21. I will continue blogging as normal. I need to build up a habit of writing no matter what until it becomes a habit!

  22. I find myself having less time than usual so I’ve been posting a bit less but I’ve also been working on a special search engine that I’m going to post on Christmas day as a present for my readers.

  23. Since I run a US Politics Blog, my Blog goes light when Congress goes home. In that time, i wil update my Bliogroll, and possibly meet a Blogger visiting my hometown during New years.

In the meantime, I am setting up a Blogger meetup for March tied to a Political fundraiser (I am a partisan in real time) — Bloggers as press for the event.

Otherwise, the grinch for Christmas and Dr. Who posts as well. And maybe some philisophical questions to end the New year.

When Congress gets back, so do I.

  24. I am giving away free indie music downloads instead of writing posts this week. http://peartreemommy.com/2009/12/its-good-and-its-free/

  25. Can not be told better, thank you.
