7 Principles of Launching a Six Figure Blog
Just a quick note to point you to a post that I’ve had published on an Australian Blog – The Punch (I wrote it all except for the title :-)).
Seven rules of blogging from a legend of the craft.
It probably won’t be completely new to regular readers of ProBlogger but goes through 7 of the very basic steps that I’ve gone through to grow my photography blog to the point that it’s at today (it just had its first Six Figure month).
I’d be interested to hear your comments on the post over on The Punch.
PS: this was my first guest post on another blog for a long time. I actually found it to be a really interesting process – I’ve not had bloggers block for ages but finding an angle to write a post on someone else’s blog was actually quite a challenge for me and I learned a lot doing it!

Now you know what its like for us, writing on anothers blog. Its quite a nerve wracking process! The first couple of times I wrote on here, I couldn’t sleep the night before.
Also – its also scary dealing with the a different audience :-) You’re doing a great job, similar what I do – jump into the comments and show the other side.
Would be interested to see more posts like this.

6 figures in one month one one blog is awesome! I learned a lot from the legend on this one as it is my goal to be a 6 figure blogger. I think it will take me many blogs and many months to make it happen but I will continue to read your blog, take your advice and keep moving forward.

Great post. It’s wonderful to see exactly how to do it, and then the results. Having a launch and making $80,000 AUD is pretty awesome!

Heh I think it’s funny you experienced a bit of bloggers’ block while writing a guest post. I look forward to hearing any insights you may have had during that process!

Darren, you do a good work. I had blogged for a while as a hobby, not to make money. However, the more I blogged the more I started to realize that I could enjoy my blogging and earn at least some money while doing it. When i started to come across your stuff and some of other pro-bloggers I actually have become quite discontent with not making money from blogging, so I am not taking the time off to rethink and restrategize what I do altogether…
Good luck to you.

I really like the way you ‘keep it real’ and remind people that this is real, hard work. That you have been successful, by being conscientious and smart. That you have not been struck by lightning, or won the lottery, but that you are a real person, with real expectations and goals, and that by putting in the hard yakka (sorry I watched an old episode of croc hunter yesterday, and can’t resist, I miss Steve!) you’ve managed to reap the rewards.
Great article! There are so many people talking about this subject and yet I only have a handful of ‘go-to’ guys whose blog posts make me take notes! (Yes you’re one of them!).
Thanks for a great post.

That was a really good post (Although I didn’t expect anything less!)
I think the important thing to take from this post is how you deal with the initial not so positive comments that were initially posted, and how well you dealt with them.
Good work Darren, FYI how much is your mortgage if your still paying it off earning over 100k a month?!

Very well done – that article is indeed a very good summary of what you kindly explain on your website!
It definitely helps put a vision and a plan for the future for the beginning blogger that I am (3 months and not even 2 figure income yet ;-).
But this is only the first step: trying to build great content, a loyal readership, and see where they hang out – also interact with bloggers on the same niche (automated trading system designs for me).
I’ll see where this goes, try and keep being useful and see what product my readership woud be interested in…

7. Build a Useful Product of Your Own
This one I guess really helps a lot. But we need traffic for it too. Especially if one has a really good book on some topic, thats the best product to sell.
I am trying to write a book too about dogs. :)

I’ve only been a ProBlogger subscriber for a couple of months – I’ve got “the book” (new edition coming 2010? I was checking Amazon Associates today?), but it was great to see a more distilled ’snapshot’ of the Digital Photography School; especially the e-Book success we’ve all been following but without ‘the lessons to be learned’ etc. Insightful.
Chin up though on the first comment over there!! :D

Agreed that it was a fairly basic post, HOWEVER, it’s good to recap those fundamental points once in a while. Studies have shown that we don’t learn from facts until we are presented with them at least 7 times.
Six figures in one month = staggering, by the way.

I’ve read the article. Thank you again!
You always help us.
The most important point for me this time was MONETIZING YOUR BLOG.
I’ve just recently launched my http://www.socialmediainaustralia.com.au Blog where I am following and sharing what large aussie companies are doing in regards to Social Media.
In the last few days I have been thinking if my readers would like the fact of finding Google Ads in my site.
For me MONETIZING a blog gives you motivation to do it good and you get to learn a lot about SEO since you are interested in getting relavant ads to the content.
I wish I could come back in a few weeks time to share with you my success story following your recommendations.
Merry Christmas.

Darren,
Everytime I get on someone else’s pro blogging or social media site for inspiration, I appreciate “the legend” a bit more. You seem to have an uncanny knack for getting to the areas that concern me the most.
Like a really good coach, you remind us that the success of our program comes from the basics. In football, it’s blocking and tackling. We can have the most complicated playbook in the universe, but if we fail to block and tackle…we lose. We must execute the basics, as we incorporate the sophisticated plays into our game plan. If we lose sight of the basics, we can kiss our championship dreams goodbye.
Thanks for sharing your success formulas with us, Darren. What often goes unsaid in your articles, is to pass the spirit of giving on to others…and the circle remains unbroken.

When I started my site about a year ago, I only read Problogger posts periodically because my site technically wasn’t a blog. However, when I converted to Wordpress a few weeks ago, I became a full-time student of “Problogger University”. Despite being way behind your other “students”, I’m having a blast just diving in and soaking up everything there is to learn. You are a master, “Professor Rowse.”
I may never see a six-figure month, but that’s okay. I enjoy what I do and the things I learn from Problogger only make it better by helping so much with both the content and non-content side of managing a blog.
But watch out! This student is trying to surpass the master. One day, Sir Darren….one day.
Now that’s enough ass-kissing for today. Get back to work creating great content for us to read. ;-)

This achievement represents a series of calculated efforts and you’ve more than earned it. A break down of the revenue stream history since release, even in rough numbers, would be helpful to those of us in the masses.
Cheers.

RSS feed is still an alien word although almost everyone have seen it before. Do they know what it is at all? I doubt if everyone knows.
I think weekly newsletter is such a great idea. It can help you retain the traffic and specially the first time visitors to your site.
