I prefer to use Google Talk client, for two reasons: I can transfer files (up to 1 gigabyte!), and I can leave gmail closed. But Google Chat has it over Google Talk in the feature category: group fhat, video chat, and text chat with AIM/iChat.

Then there’s the Google Talk Widget, which has its own unique trick: If you paste in a YouTube link, your friend can watch the video play right within the widget’s window. Plus, the widget allows group text chat.

We’re all waiting for all features to be supported on all platforms. The Blackberry version of Google Talk supports file transfer; why can’t the chat version and the widget?

Apart from these there are many services which notifies you about latest updates…
and using friendfeed IM update and Ping.fm update we can upate most of our activity from chat box…

If Google chat used wisely.. it can be one stop for anyone….

Thanks for the info. I’ve heard of theme both but never have tried them. I’m just wondering about the problem of having time with all the other social marketing to keep up with like Twitter, etc.

I’ve been using the Google/Gmail chat feature to speak to our website’s (sheepsheadbites.com) editor, so I agree with you that it’s a great feature. We’re always saying, “Check the chats” when we’re not sure about some details we talked about.

I still actually prefer MSN and I do not know why. I guess it is because if it’s usability, but GTALK seems to be less system hogging.

Compare to Yahoo messenger “web base”I agree that this tools is better,the feature “audio only or video only is something I will try to use to communicate,however my question is one,is there any “better management “chat room ” in this Google chat ?once I use Google talk I disrespect Gtalk for the poor Google rooms.and is this the same with Gchat?

I never used Gchat yet but because of your saved conversation is really healthy for you. As last time I have a bargain with my clients and I forgot to note that price in portfolio of that client.

Next time he demanded the final price … I just go to skype click on the last week conversation and wholaa … I saw the last week deal details and I send you price.

This features are really useful whatever chat you are using.

Also, you can be in “Invisible Mode” in Google chat. I don’t think its available yet in Google talk..

I have been Skypeing so long I cannot think of another service.
And Skype has this cute facility to take snapshots which I usually do.It has full screen half screen and picture within frame facility.
The voice quality is great.But what I often do is I use Skype to voice chat and Yahoo Messenger for video….All for voice chat with the same person.I combine the two for a great session of voice-cum-video chat.I often use the conference call facility when my brothers are traveling and all of us are in different countries.In fact we hardly ever use the phone to communicate with each other any more.I do all kinds of file transfer including songs.We specially use the photo sharing facility of Yahoo Messenger.
It is really fun to be able to communicate so well over the net.

Is Google chat open to people without Google accounts? Open to people surfing from phones and other small devices? If not, I think it’s better to stick with Google Talk, its features and the available widgets for it. Talk is built on the open XMPP system so non-Googlers can access it fairly easily.

Never heard of Google Chat. I will give it a try. I use Gtalk and it is very helpful to me. I got my biggest sponsor through Gtalk only.
