Have You Ever Guest Posted on Someone Else’s Blog? [POLL]

Posted By Darren Rowse 2nd of February 2009 Blog Promotion, Reader Questions 0 Comments

As a followup to yesterdays post on Guest Posting as a method to promote your blog I thought I’d ask how many readers have tried the technique?

Feel free to add a comment below to tells us more about your answer – I’m particularly interested to hear from those who have guest posted about how you found the experience.

PS: thanks to all my Twitter followers for suggesting poll topics and for @rustylshelton who inspired this one.

  1. I’ve done a few blog posts for others and gotten a decent spike in traffic related to my niche. Anymore I don’t have time to do my own posts let alone writing for others. Wish I did always found it to be an enjoyable experience.

  2. I have never made any guest post. Maybe after 2 years.

  3. I’m too busy posting on my own blog to post on anyone else’s!

People have asked to post on my blog, but I want to keep it as just my voice.

  4. I’ve guest posted on the guitar site Jemsite, and I’ve had one guest poster on my blog so far. I plan to invite other bloggers to post more regularly.

    My blog: http://iheartguitar.blogspot.com
    My guest post: http://www.jemsite.com/blog/43-general/766-ibanez-geek.html

  5. I have twice, both times were on personal blogs. That is my niche. I have also let other people guest blog for me. If I had anything worthwhile to add, I’d pitch it to you Darren. *wink*

  6. I’ve done a guest post on a friend’s blog. If I were to do it again, I would make sure that my name appear at the top instead of the bottom of the post, though, because several less-attentive people didn’t recognize it as a guest post.

  7. The primary i have not guest posted yet, is because i have really not considered it to some extent. I would like to guest post but it is just finding the right blog or blogs that it would be a mutually beneficial thing.

  8. I love guest posting for others, because I feel it is a great way to not only broaden my readership, but also to meet people in other or related niches that I might not know yet.

It’s great to have others guest post too, because it brings fresh voice and perspective.

  9. It’s always an honor to be invited to post or host an event on someone else’s blog. I’ve done both, and found it to be a good experience. I’ve made a lot of new friends that way!
I’m always aware of the need to pick quality content for my own blogs, but even more aware of making sure what I post to someone elses is of high quality.

  10. Haven’t guest posted in the traditional sense… have had my posts posted on other blogs without my permission ;)

  11. I haven’t guest posted on a blog, but the closest thing I’ve done as quest posting is providing articles for an independent online gaming magazine/journal. A guy emailed me inviting me to join the website to post my original articles on gaming, and the experience as been great!

As for posting on an actual blog, I have yet to have that honor.

  12. I never guest post at other blogs. But after read your post yesterday, I wonder and wanna try this whether it’s work or not

  13. I tried once before and got rejected!!, now that’s either saying my post sucked, or it was just too good to allow on that site for fear of losing all their traffic?, but ill just stick with the first option;)

  14. I’ve never guest posted but would really like to.

Is it etiquette to wait to be asked?

  15. I’ve never guest blogged, especially since I haven’t written on my own blog since Jan. 6 I’d sure be interested in anyone writing a guest blog for me. I’m open on anything to do with the independent music industry that helps the indies manage and promote themselves.

  16. I’ve guest posted a couple of times, but am not sure about any immediate benefits. Would love to see what you are coming up with the results here.

  17. I’ve had great experiences guest blogging. I feel like it’s such a win-win… I get exposure; the host get’s a day off. I’d do it again in a heartbeat.

  18. I have done couple of guest post only. But in my blog I open up for guest post weekly and got a good response.

I am just wondering is there can be any negative impact on a blog from guest posts. I know need to select the guest post carefully.

Other than that I find it quite interesting and useful and build a small community who has similar ideas and interests.

    Thanks
    Sjay

  19. I have never made a guest post on any blog yet, actually I have a question about guest post. Let say I write an article, so I can only post on other’s blog and consider as guest post, so can I post the same article on my blog as well?

    Regards,
    Lee

  20. I have guest posted on blogs before and I like to actually give the blogger a voice in what topic they’d like to see from me. They can be specific or very vague and then I take it from there. I read their blog archives a few months and pick up their audience from the comments so that my post fits into theirs.

It’s been a great experience and one that I hope will continue through the life of my blogging.

  21. I haven’t yet, but I would love to because spreading awareness of my daughter’s disease is so important to me — networking is so important, and there may be someone on another site who reads that may know another person with her disease or knows someone who can help.

  22. I’ve done it quite a few times, each time with the intent of being as selfless as possible and linking out to as many other bloggers as possible so that the place I was guest posting at would get a lot more attention. It did work, and worked well: at one place I was posting these commentaries on other people’s blog entries, being very complimentary and doing my best to tease out larger questions.

I will say this: none of the places I guest posted at ever really won me readers. It was a great experience, but those blogs were too small. So.

  23. I have never offered guest posts, because at the moment I am committed to promoting my blog and want to have a few more eyes on it, before announcing something big as guest posts. Having guest posts on a blog without any viewers is sort of meaningless.

  24. I had posted just once on a Blog I read quite regularly. The experience was awesome , since that particular blog had a good following and a lot more people appreciated the post than I would I have got, had I written the same article on my own blog.

  25. I haven’t guest posted ever, but then I wasn’t taking blogging seriously till a few months back. I’m currently on the lookout for blogs where I can guest post, and also looking to get the design of my blog finalised … finally.

  26. I’ve struggled getting guest posts for my travel and tourism blog, I guess its because its South African based and not many people are aware of the local industry. However I do believe the trends within the industry also applies to other countries. Would be very much interested on travel technology bloggers since that is very much an untapped topic here in South Africa.

  27. This is the second month I have my blog and I didn’t had the chance to guest post on any other blog, but I would love to do it someday.

  28. I really interested in be part of guest blogging scene but I still couldn’t find any chance to be part of it.

I really love to be a guest blogger in others blog. Can I be guest blogger of your blogs? I really hope that I can be one (n_n)

p/s : Anyone want to be my blog’s guest blogger?

  29. Yes, I’ve had the opportunity to write a few guest blog posts for other blogs. I love doing this. First of all, it’s an honor to be asked. And I always add new readers to my blog when they link back to me. It’s a win/win for all.

I’ve made so many new blogging friends. I’m so thankful to be a part of this bloggy world.

  30. I was asked to write my first guest post recently, but the blog owner hasn’t posted it yet. Hopefully I will see some of the aforementioned benefits when it launches.

  31. I am planning on guest posting on other people’s blogs I just have yet to get round to writing an article specifically for another persons blog. I tend to see many people these days posting on other peoples blogs as its a good way of marketing your own blog however I am still yet to try it out.

  32. It is not really guest posting, but I write a regular featured article for a website about restuarants and dining out.

I would love to be a guest blogger on someone’s blog.

  33. Yup. This one in fact. :-)

  34. No, I not guest blogged, but I have offered to two people for them to be guest blogger on my blog. Neither one of them has taken me up on the offer yet.

  35. I have used guest posting to get my blog noticed among ‘regular readers’ or some blogs. BTW, just one blog post never cut the deal, I had to make multiple interesting posts to get some followers from those blogs.

  36. Yes, I have guest posted a few times. Currently I am also “blogsitting” for someone who is in the middle of a move. So far, it has been about a 6 week “engagement”. Looks like another week or two before the gig is over. I’ve enjoyed it and introduced that blog’s audience to a few things they may have never discovered.

  37. I guest posted on a few of blogs but none of postings brought any significant traffic. That’s probably because blogs I posted on weren’t very popular.

This is by the way the topis I’d like to see covered on ProBlogger. Whether it is worth to publish your guest postings on blogs which are (probably) less or similarly popular to yours.

  38. I do guest posting quite a lot and it helps to boost my own status as well

  39. I have to add, since I commented yesterday on this post about posting, I have been asked to guest post – yee haw –

All those years of accumulating content may be of use after all – http://www.singlerose.com

Darren – you are a distraction! jk – I’ve got an empire to build (or sell). LOL – I can’t be reading posts about posting all day long…. lmao

  40. I have done 2 guest post and there’s a third one planned. I enjoyed the experience. It enabled me to speak with a voice that’s a little different than my regular blogging voice. And it’s a great marketing tool.

  41. I owuld love to know how you actually integrated your poll into the message body in such a way that once I’ve voted I can see the results here and also comment?

I want one of those! How do I do it????

To the question itself – I would love to guest-blog – just finished writing two articles that I will be suggesting for discussion to others … Wish me luck!:-)

  42. Not yet, but that is one of my goals for this year. So far, I haven’t been asked to.

  43. Yes, I did once in my friend’s blog. A contribution in her in endeavor of gathering inspiring stories and publishing them in a book.

Although it’s just personal (and not sharing of technical knowledge), it still feel good that somebody would want to post your article on their blog.

  44. We just recently did a guest post on The Urban Muse, which is posting in a week or so. It was a fantastic experience, and I really enjoyed collaborating with other bloggers.

  45. I just did a guest post on Caroline Middlebrook’s blog and it was a great experience, I really enjoyed it and got a lot of positive responses from her readers as well as lots of traffic and new subscribers at my blog.

  46. I haven’t guest posted yet, but I’ve had a few offers. The offers are still there, so I better get on it, lest they get rescinded. I do realize it is not proper to make a blog owner wait, and that it is me who would be wasting the opportunity…

  47. I’ve actually guest posted on this blog and it was a blast. Nice traffic bump too!

  48. I would like guest bloggers as well as to be a guest blogger but I’m just joining the “full time blog” community regularly so don’t know many of you yet.

My blog is on microstock and stock photography and my writing topics could include photography, business, marketing, image, commercial photography, or anything of that vein.

  49. Not till today.
