This post is very insightful. I hope to use some of your suggested techniques to improve my technology consulting business. I'm wondering tho - can the interaction at some point be a bad thing?

Nice tips! And I loved the interactive with Darren's comments. It is easier to relate the different views together like this rather than reading a complete post with a different viewpoint. This seems more like a conversation.

Thank you for an engaging read.

Guest posting is good, but it takes time to write in a quality content. I've been writing 2 guest posts weeks ago and I received good traffics too. It's good to get traffics and one-way link from guest posting, but be sure the post is quality and helping people. :)

I just did a couple of guest blog posts. I wonder if it's ok for me to post on my own blog a couple of items as a teaser and then have a link to the guest posts so the reader can read more?
What do you think?
thanks,
J

@Josh - I think the tips you give are spot on. I especially like that you stress getting to know the blog you are posting on.

I think it is interesting that each of you differ on how to present your post. While I think both can work, I think presenting a post upfront could provide a lot of benefit. The blogger may not particularly care for the post at first, but could give some valuable insight for changes that will create a better post for the blog. I like the idea of being able to see a writing style before agreeing to allow them to post as well.

@Darren, I really like that you added your POV throughtout the post. It felt as if I was listening to a conversation instead of just reading words. Like above, it is nice to see 2 differing opinions and the pro's and con's of each. I would like to see more of this.

Thanks so much for the wonderful blog on helping people improve their blogging! I'm fairly new here and really appreciate all the great articles and advice on here.

I particularly enjoyed this post too as it was very informative and encouraged me to start doing some guest blogging.

Darren, I really enjoyed your comments to on this. It gave it a nice interactive and conversational feel. Although at first I was a little confused as I'm fairly new to this blog and it took a few secs to realize what was going on, but after that I really liked hearing both sides on the guest blogging issue.

Thanks for another great post and I look forward to reading more!

Okay, I'm sold! Thanks for a great article; I found some wonderful advice in here.

And, Darren, I really enjoyed your comments in the post, too. They added a new dimension to some already-useful information. I have a feeling that we'll start seeing a lot more of this around the blogsphere now!

Thanks again for all the comments guys and gals!

A few of you have said the italics didn't do enough to differentiate between who was talking -- me or Darren. I agree, another color or some sort of indentation / boxing would make it a lot more fluid.

But I still think the comments added to the experience, especially as the guest poster. I got more out of it than if Darren just hit publish!

I was not totally aware of the guest post. I find this article very interesting and useful. I cam to your blog though someone who was claiming that you are getting some 400000 visitors per day. I can't believe. Is it true?

We are new to blogging and this concept of guest blogging is very interesting. However, can new sites attract guest bloggers? Or is this just for sites that have a huge following or visits per day. Thanks!

If you're going to have guest bloggers it's a good idea to tweak the layout so the new blogger's name appears near the top of the post. Otherwise it can be bewildering to read a completely different "voice".

I found the chiming in to be a little confusing. Since I am not a frequent visitor here, I was confused at the introduction. I think it would be helpful to set off your comments not just in italics but in a different color. I also felt that in a couple of cases Darren was commenting for the purposes of commenting but it didn't bring value added - was just repetitive.

One of the main reasons that I have turned down guestbloggers on my blog is that I felt that their writing was not very engaging or they did not have good images. I personally would much rather see the finished product than agreeing to a post beforehand.

I like the format of commenting on the guest blogger but for me the commenting was more powerful when you kept your responses shorter---in some of the longer responses I felt there was too much back-and-forth and the readability was much easier with the shorter response commenting from Darren.
