wow , i think this is the best option to get good traffic with new blogs like mine. but to get more diggs or to make it to dig front page requires quality articles, not just that there are also othere features responsible to make it to digg front page(which i certenly dont understand),it would be nice if u wrote an article how to get ur article to digg front page

Great post! I learnt a lot reading it, as I’m not really familiar with the bookmarking sites yet. it’s a bit long indeed but it offers a thorough and really interesting comparison of the different traffic sources. I think it’s also good to see how a ‘high’ traffic blog such as yours developed overtime…

That was a very in-depth analysis of incoming traffic. From what I’ve seen from other bloggers, social traffic tends to bring in curious readers which could explain the major spikes.

Once you’ve got the visitors coming in, your conversion techniques kick in and hopefully grab repeating visitors. Social bookmarking and media is a great way to get your site out there and spotted.

In my Google Analytics account, my newsletter hits appear under Referral traffic, not Direct. You can check it out by going to Referral traffic and look for “live” to see all the hits from Hotmail. Could this be a mistake in your post?

Great post and thorough analysis.

I can speak to your last question about socialbookmarking as an SEO tool. The ‘flash flood’ analogy I’ve used to describe it is that a big social media hit will carve a channel for search traffic to trickle down later.

Just take a look at a few posts from gas2.org that went popular on digg/reddit/and or stumbleupon and now have a prominent position on the front page of google search rankings:

“natural gas cars”
“electric cars”
“air cars”

Over time, this can drive an order of magnitude more traffic than the initial spike. The electric car post in particular gets somewhere around 30K pageviews per month.

First I have to go back to the blog post

On that post I had commented that whether that sites are sending 1000 visitors a day and only 10 are converting even after those low conversions ration that is still good because we are not doing much effort to bring those visitors.

In this post Darren has given example that on Nov. 13 he got 14000 visitors and only 150 subscribed this is same about 1% conversion without much efforts and I will say this is very good.

What I believe is that no visitor source is good or bad to make a successful blog or site we need visitors, which is the biggest challenge then creating good and fresh content and we should try all the ways which can bring visitors.

I love StumbleUpon traffic. I find it often comes in waves for the same article – it’s as if a few people discover it and then it sends a large number of visitors over a few days, then it lies dormant for a month or so, then repeats. It wasn’t even one I promoted or asked to be promoted, which is even better, as it takes zero effort for thousands of extra visitors :)
