Blogger Sells blog for $95,000 and turns a Family Crisis Around

I’ve not really promoted ProBlogger the Book as heavily as I could have here on the ProBlogger blog but every now and again a story hits my inbox from a reader that makes me smile and reminds me that it’s being read by people and helping them to achieve their dreams.

A few weeks I got an email from one of b5media’s bloggers and channel editors – Gayla McCord who told me a story about how after reading the ProBlogger book she managed to sell her blog for over $90,000. What made the story even more inspiring was the hardship that she faced at the time of the sale and how it changed her life.

Today she published the story on her blog.

Now I’m not going to take credit for the sale (Gayla writes a great blog and obviously had built up a property that was attractive to buyers) but it’s a story that reminds me that blogging is changing people’s lives.

PS: Gayla tells me that part of her deal with the buyer of her blog was a clause meaning she can’t say what blog it was or who the buyer was.

    I’m glad I stumbled on this site as I too am going through some tough times and trying to figure out how to make my blog at http://www.KeepAmericaAtWork.com pay for itself as I can’t find work.

    I don’t really want to sale this site, but if somebody were to offer me 250,000 I don’t think I could turn it down as things are bad on this end.

    Don’t have the money to buy your book now, but maybe later.

    Wonderful story! Building up a property to the point where your exit from it can be profitable is something we all could aspire to. We just have to remember to not make the blog too much about ourselves as individuals, so that when we exit, it still holds up on its own under the new ownership.

    Debo, the book is available at a lot of major bookstores, but it strangely seems to be categorized in the Apple section… at least that has been the case of several sightings. I have seen it both at Hastings and Borders – get it today. I don’t have it yet but have heard numerous positive reviews!!

    That is certainly inspiring, Darren–thanks for leading us to Gayla’s story! I began my blog for two reasons, primarily, as a part time income to help my family get out of debt, and a way to help others avoid my mistakes. It has now grown into a viable income producing asset that could one day secure my family’s future, if they right offer came along!

    Her post actually was what finally did it for me to buy your book. My family is in a bad place money wise right now and I’ve got a new blog I started on the side. I’m hoping to be able to build it up enough to at least pay the bills.

    I’m glad to hear she resolved her family crisis. I too read the ProBlogger book. I bought it months ago and I read it many over and over every month. The book didn’t only help improve my blogging skills on 3 blogs I own, but it also helped me foment creative ideas and solutions to many of my company projects. I think its safe to say that blogging is a true profession, a true hobby, a true worldwide communications method, and so much more. I strongly believe the ability to blog is in the inner core of every human being, its just a matter of enlightening the person in how to expose that ability.

    Thank you Darren Rowse for illustrating me into the world of blogging, I appreciate it.

    I look back over the last several years, being a single mom of twins and fighting with all I had to be the full time parent to them as well as the provider – now this, I just can’t say enough how truly blessed I am to have the right people come into my life at just the right time to help me find where I need to be.

    I’ve just given away two more copies of my Problogger Book to relatives tonight and just ordered 3 more. I always have one for me and two to give away because I know it will happen.

    Sales copy? I wish! That flood was a real as it comes. Believe me, it’s not a sales copy and Darren had no idea until just recently what his book had done for me – I was too busy getting my life back together.

    Darren i have gone through her story and its really an inspiration to every one in the blogging story, Though no flood in my area around (also i don’t wanna see it) it has created more passion in me than it was before. I too am looking forward buying the book. Thanks for the post.

    Wow. Great story and shows how things happen when we need them the most and when we least expect it. I wonder, however, how likely it would have been to sell right now, given the market climate (particularly in the US since that seems to be were most purchases are done).

    I think as business start-ups go, blogging is one of the cheapest and potentially has the greatest pay-off, provided you do it right. And definitely your book is an excellent guide on how to maximize that experience.

    It’s amazing what the power of word (or blog) can do. I purchased “ProBlogger” just 6 weeks ago and started my blog the same day. Yes it’s a take 2 steps forward 1 step back journey, but I’m enjoying it. Thanks for the inspiration.

    While the story was very touching, and I maybe wrong but my Spidey sense tingled and told me I was reading a professional sales copy. The “P.S.” killed it, although John Wu’s Blog {Bancaholic} did sell for some millions, it is not impossible for this to happen, the vagueness and not being able to check the cubestat or holistic view of the said site deems it a mystery sales copy to me…

    Im also in a bind and would sell my website for the low cost of $25,000.00

    PS- after reading the rest of comments here and visiting websites of people pushing the sale of their site, I find some people are really just “clueless” selling sites for $25,000 w/ alexa rank of 7.5Mil , but remember its a LOW LOW price and it DOES come with 3 posts that are only 3 months old! haha ;)

    This story goes to show that the Ineternet is LOADED with opportunity, and no matter what anyone has to go through to become a “master internet marketer”, it will be well worth it. I know that MANY of the “master bloggers” who use blogging as a means to create six figure income online…will develope a blog, and then sell it off. It is the same idea that some business owner use in the corporate world.
