  1. A number of things I like the sound of. Specifically the Image Captioning, as I always thought WP lacked this. There are very few good plugins for this, and none that’ll work with WP 2.5.

    What’ll be in 2.7 then? I want a cross linker addon for SEO purposes! :)

  2. I love that they finally went from version 1.2.1 of jQuery to the newest version 1.2.6… big jump! I’ll have to update soon.

  3. I love WordPress! They do great things for the blogging community :)

    Especially like the enhanced Press It functionality!

  4. Did they fix the bug that prevented password recovery (special characters in confirmation URL)?

  5. I like the revision control feature they added. I draft all my post in Google Docs because of that feature. I will be interested to see how well theirs works compared to Google Docs.

    I think the “Press This” feature is nice. I just started using ScribeFire so I will need to try them both to see what works better for me. I’ll wait a few weeks before downloading 2.6 to test. I don’t want to be the lucky person to find any bugs.

  6. The video does not open Darren..
    The same happened in my blog, so just had to remove it.

    Btw the features like word count while writing etc. are cool and they help me get motivated to write more than before :)
    Love the upgrade.

    Upgraded and blogged about it :)

  7. Installed it and I love it!

  8. I Like with “Turbo” Gears and Word Count features on this version 2.6.

  9. I will definitely have to check it out. I need all the help I can get.

    The trouble with most “BloggerNewbie” help is the speaker assumes a great deal of knowledge on the subject and the BloggerNewbie gets lost from the get-go!

  10. @Chetan the Video works fine for me. Could be your browser.

  11. Upgraded all of the blogs this morning and everything went smoothly.

    The “press this” feature is pretty cool. I used it once and everything works exactly as they said. If you have a them that requires Custom Fields, you are still going to have to go back and edit those in. It still saves a lot of time with the bookmark feature for getting the link in and setting up the post.

    Overall, extremely happy with the updates. The caption feature is going to need some fine tuning via CSS to get it to look like I want it to on one of my blogs…but great feature as well.

  12. Seriously – another upgrade already? I can’t keep up! ;)

  13. @Arnold Aranez

    The same video opens in the wordpress site and shoemoney.com but not here.. so can’t blame the browser for that.

    And not sure what’s the reason!

  14. I was waiting for these changes!

  15. I wasn’t aware that anyone actually wrote their posts in the word press admin area.

    Activate and deactivate multiple plugins and word count is pretty cool. Rest of it doesn’t do much for me personally, but I’m sure it’ll make someone happy.

    Finally, their background music is terrible!

  16. Looking forward to Gears and Word Count features.

    Thanks for the video.

  17. This looks great! I love the new features. I’m especially excited about the Caption feature – I am in the process of developing a blog for a new client, and they wanted the caption option. I was disappointed to see that I couldn’t get the captions that I typed in on images in 2.5.1 to display and figured I’d have to look for some plugins. Nice to know that I can just install 2.6 and my problem is solved!

    Did the upgrade go smoothly for everyone so far? There’s always that little ‘what if’ question and you want to be sure there won’t be any issues, LOL. Obviously back up everything first! ;)

  18. Lots of new features, I really like it, just waiting for some feedbacks before I’ll start upgrading :)

  19. I’ll have a look at the video and modifications later this evening. Sometimes it isn’t really necessary upgrading, most of the time I don’t need all those new features.

  20. Wow, loads of new features – seems only a week or so ago I was installing version 2.5 – I am very excited about the word count, press this and revision control.

    Thanks Darren for posting this, I’m off to upgrade my blogs now!

  21. I think i will update to this version,
    just for security purposes!

  22. WordPress 2.5 was cool, I hope 2.6 goes beyond my expectations.

  23. Hope they have fix the bugs from 2.5.

  24. Hey it seems 2.6 has some great upgrades. I’m not too sure I’m going to upgrade just yet; I’d rather wait a while and see what others are saying. Time will tell. I’m cautious because the plugins I use and need may not work on WP 2.6, so the wait begins.

  25. I’m with Luis, I think I’ll be waiting for a while till I update to see what others are saying about the latest version.

  26. The new features are attractive, especially the writing upgrades. But I have established an off-line blog writing routine that has many of these features – and more.

    Being the cautious person I am, I’ll be waiting for a while to upgrade until some of the bugs are shaken out. Also, I will be watching the plugins I depend upon to see if they upgrade or are listed as compatible. As for themes, the ones I use are so heavily modified that I think I’m on my own there!

  27. groovy music!

  28. I’ve been following the updates since 2.6 Beta 1 to RC1 :)

    I love the image captioning that they’ve put on the last Beta 3-RC1 the most! Imagine what I can do with it on every screenshot of my application/games reviews :D

  29. Yay, they now have version control included. It sounds like they listened to suggestions, too. Now, if only they could include a notes areas with each post, so I could keep track of things like where I submitted the post, etc., that would be great.

  30. I just upgraded my blog to 2.6, lots of changes. Above all, it didn’t tear up anything I had which is the most important thing. I hate upgrading then realizing that something is broken due to the upgrade.

  31. Did the update yesterday, it really went smoothly as ever. Not a single issue and the newly added features are great, but let’s not forget the roughly 150 (if my memory serves me right) or so bug fixes which have been applied either.

  32. I installed this today, and I love it on my financial blog.
    Thankyou wordpress for your awesome service

  33. i don`t like it! it gives me a headeack working with it

  34. I was already thinking of moving to wordpress. Now may be the time.

  35. I upgrade my wp today, but something wrong with this version. Some people say they cannot login to wp dasdboard.

  36. I’m still on v2.5, waiting for my currently used plugins to be available for v2.6 before I make the change.

    Anyway, v2.6 looks promising than ever.

  37. I hate it! I can’t log in. I’m glad I backed up everything because I am reverting. What A waste of time.

  38. Before everyone gets excited and upgrades, you may want to note there is a fairly substantial bug in this version to do with permalinks. I wrote about it on my blog , with links to info about the bug in the support forums.

    If you have upgraded, check to make sure your permalinks are working. And it is always a good idea to have a look around the support forums and see what issues people are having just to make sure you’re not having them too – if you can stand to look around there without getting a headache. ;(

    Me personally, I won’t be upgrading anytime soon – it seems WordPress is losing the plot a bit.

  39. I updated yesterday. It works fine for me. All the plugins I’m using work on 2.6 :)

  40. For the life of me, I cannot get captions to work. It looks great in preview, but live, all the code spills out around the photo and there’s no caption at all. I added the caption code to my theme’s style.css but there was no change. Seems like I’m just one minor step away from making this work. If anyone has any ideas, I’d love to hear them. I’ll add a caption to my first post to demonstrate.

  41. @Mark – I’m having similar problems. If I insert an image into a post and I want it left-aligned, the text only appears next to the image if I don’t have a caption. If I put a caption, it will shove the text of the post under the image.

    Anybody have a fix for this?

  42. This is my first time using WordPress. So, I don’t know if there is something which does not work the way it should. It looks very easy to use, and I have no problem logging in into dashboard. Guess I’ll have to wait and see.

  43. Hi, Geek’s Dream:
    For me, it turned out to be a conflict between WP 2.6 and an older version of Max Banner Ads I was using. I upgraded to the latest version of that and bam! Captions worked great. If you don’t have that particular plug-in, maybe it’s a different one causing the problem.
    Otherwise, adding the script to my current theme seemed to work, as well. I’ll paste it in on the chance you don’t have it yet:

    /* Captions */
    .aligncenter,
    div.aligncenter {
    display: block;
    margin-left: auto;
    margin-right: auto;
    }

    .wp-caption {
    border: 1px solid #ddd;
    text-align: center;
    background-color: #f3f3f3;
    padding-top: 4px;
    margin: 10px;
    -moz-border-radius: 3px;
    -khtml-border-radius: 3px;
    -webkit-border-radius: 3px;
    border-radius: 3px;
    }

    .wp-caption img {
    margin: 0;
    padding: 0;
    border: 0 none;
    }

    .wp-caption p.wp-caption-text {
    font-size: 11px;
    line-height: 17px;
    padding: 0 4px 5px;
    margin: 0;
    }
    /* End captions */

  44. Doea it work for anyone? I can’t lg in and it screwed up my blog. It does not seem to play well with plugins like “share this”.

  45. I upgraded to WordPress 2.61. It took me about 20 minutes for the upgrade. So, far so good!
    I like the new features for writing blog. I hope just not make it too complicated like a desk top publishing software, in the future!
