Get Up To $100 as a BONUS from Chitika
I’m excited today to announce an exclusive special offer for ProBlogger readers from Chitika (my own #2 income earner) that could be worth up to $100 for some of you.
If you’ve previously not been accepted into Chitika or have a site that is product focused and didn’t work well previously this will be especially beneficial to you. Read on to find out why.
If you are not already a Chitika publisher and sign up today they are willing to double the money that you make with them in your first six weeks (until the end of August) up to the value of $100.
For Example:
- If a publisher earns $80 between now and August 31, Chitika will match them $80, making their total payout $160
- If a publisher earns $600 between now and August 31, Chitika will match them $100, making their total payout $700
This promotion is open to any NEW publisher with Chitika who signs up with THIS LINK.
Previously Not Accepted as a Chitika Publisher?
If you have previously applied to Chitika and were not accepted into the program Chitika have recently opened up their program more and you are welcome to reapply.
Don’t have a ‘product related’ site?
Since adding their new ‘premium ad unit’ to their range Chitka’s ads now not only do well on ‘gadget’ or ‘product related’ sites - but are converting well on sites of all kinds of topics. At b5media we’ve added them successfully to hundreds of our sites on all kinds of topics (most of them not product related at all). For example - check out this mini case study from a finance related website - Bankaholic.
This promotion is exclusive to ProBlogger Readers and runs from today (Monday 14 July) through to 31 August - 2008.
Again - to be eligible you need to sign up here.

I’m confused about Chitika…They’re not a text based ad like Adsense, but you say that they work on all types of sites. How could I implement it to work on a political or a science blog?

These types of promotions are why I wish I didn’t sign up for every single program as soon as I found out about it.

Thanks for the heads-up, Darren. I had no idea that Chitika started catering to non-product sites. I’m going to give it a shot.

@Jacob - our Chitika|Premium ads work well on ANY sites (political, finance, etc.) as long as you get a significant amount of US search engine traffic.
Also, they are text ads (similar to Google) - however - they have images next to the text. You can see them for yourself at our website (click on my name above).

I applied awhile ago and was turned down and then got an email recently from them suggesting I reactivate my application because they started this new thing. I’ve been too busy to do it but I guess I should get on it!

Ah, so the traffic has to be search engine traffic. I have a lot of US traffic, but it comes from social media and all of that. Guess I have to increase my search engine rankings.

I’ve been using Chitika for over a year, and while it’s a distant second to Adsense for me (to be fair, I place it under the fold in a much less prominent position than Adsense), I’ve noticed that earnings have improved quite a bit over the last few months. My site *is* product related, but they seem to be doing a better job matching their ads to the content of my posts now (I write about a Black & Decker weedwhacker and lo and behold, there are ads about Black & Decker weedwhackers!), so the CTR has gone up quite a bit.
Sooo, anyone who tried them before and wasn’t impressed may want to take another stab. :)

I tried them in the early days of 2005 or so - they did pretty well until they started removing all of their links from the eminimalls - but it’s worth it to give it another shot.
Thanks!

Hey Darren,
Thanks for the info. I tried several months ago only to be turned down. I just read this article, followed through again and applied and within a couple of hours just got my acceptance email! Thanks so much…Now to try for a few of my other sites.

Ah, so the traffic has to be search engine traffic.
That’s the way contextual advertising works. It tracks the visitor path from search engine query, to your page, to ad clicked, to advertiser’s landing page. If the keyword path matches well, it’s considered a likely customer for the advertiser. If not, it’s considered an unlikely customer. Likely customers get you paid more. Social traffic tends to be seriously bad stuff for contextual advertising. In the case of social traffic, your better off with an affiliate program that pays based on action, rather than CTR, context, etc.

I would like to try it…but I can’t even get hits for my adsense ads. I don’t understand… I try and write good content. I tried leaving comments on other peoples sites. I’ve listed on blog directories. I even have a giveaway competition for artisan lampwork beads and still my traffic is increasing so so slowly. I tried seo. I feel so disillusioned. I want to try this chitika but I just feel like I get my hope up and then I just get disappointed. Adsense I don’t get any clicks at all….will chitika help i wonder

Thank you for this information. I am in process to make my own website and looked for “advertisers” to help me out with the cost of running the site, Chitika looks like to be one of them especially with the bonus :).

Hopefully my site will be approved. If not, it will probably be due to my lack of impressions. I’m currently only at about 10,000 a month.

Trees Full of Money, I get around 8000 impressions and they approved my site. I still need to wait a few days to see how it performs, because it takes 3 days from your first click to track your income.
It took about half a day to get approved. Good luck. I would like to hear more from people how it is performing on non-product based sites.
I do like the fact that it only show up when traffic is from a search engine. It won’t show to social visitors, or subscribers. That’s pretty slick. No need for who sees ads plugin, which makes it good for Blogger blogs too, assuming it performs well.

I too got an email offer. I don’t know how well it will perform, since my site is about lighthouses. Although lighthouses for sale is my number one search term, I doubt if Chitika will have too many advertisers looking to sell lighthouses. :)
