Welcome to TEN News Viewers

Just a short note to welcome viewers from Australia’s TEN News. A story just aired on the TEN network that featured three bloggers – Karen Cheng, Neerav Bhatt and myself (I’m told it will also be on the PM editions of the news in some cities tonight). For international readers – you can now see the report here.

If this is your first time at ProBlogger – let me give you a quick ‘tour’.

ProBlogger is a blog about blogging – more particularly it’s a blog about making money from blogging. Millions of blogs have sprung up on the web over the last 5 years and many of those bloggers are now looking to take their blogs from something that is purely a hobby into something that earns them a little money to supplement their income. For most this is simply a way to pay for their coffee habit or to save up for that new gadget that they’ve been eyeing off – but for some blogging has become a significant source of income. By the way – my name is Darren Rowse not Darren Dowse (as the caption said in the story).

About Me

Darren RowseI’ve been deriving a full time income from blogging for around 3 years on blogs like ProBlogger and Digital Photography School (a blog about helping digital camera owners improve their photography). A couple of years back I co-founded a company called b5media which is a blog network based in Toronto which has around 350 blogs in it – employing 200+ bloggers. I’ve also recently written a book about blogging (see below). I live in Melbourne with my wife and son and am expecting a new baby any day now. If you’d like to read about my story of becoming a full time blogger – check out this post called ‘Becoming a ProBlogger’.

About ProBlogger the Blog

As mentioned above – this blog is a blog about blogging. I’ve been running this blog for 3 years and in that time have published over 4000 tips on the topic – everything that I know about blogging. Want to know where to start? Let me suggest a few articles that I’ve written that will give you an understanding of what this is all about.

About My Book

Problogger-BookAs mentioned in the story today on TEN I’ve just written a book on the topic of making money with blogs. I write it with another blogger (Chris Garrett) and it’s only been released in the last few weeks. It’s so new that it’s not even in stores in Australia yet (they are due here in about a month). If you’d like a copy there are two ways you can get one:

Amazon – the US Amazon bookstore has copies and they ship them to Australia. They are currently on sale there for $16.49 USD. With postage and a favorable exchange rate the price is pretty similar to what they’ll sell for here. Shipping takes around a week.

Pre-Order – head to your local bookstore and put one on order. As mentioned above – they are expected to hit our shores late in June.

Lastly – thanks for stopping by. If you’d like to get in touch feel free to shoot me an email via my Contact form.

  3. Jacob Cass says:

I missed it, I got there at like 11:45 :( Congrats though and good idea with this post welcoming viewers. Will you let us know how many viewers a TV spot gets you?

  4. Rhett says:

Well done on increasing local awareness of this trend.

  5. Santosh says:

Man! you act real fast. Did you plan this post and keep it ready as it was decided that you would be aired?

anyways please let us know the new visitors via TV show stats.

  6. Congratulations Darren! What nice intro for folks who are not familiar with blogging.

  7. Darren Rowse says:

Santosh – not expecting massive increases in traffic but there was definitely a bump after the story aired. Tonight will be interesting when it’s on in prime time.

Sorry about not giving much warning – they only called me 35 minutes before it aired to let me know. But it will be on in some cities again tonight.

  8. Karen Cheng says:

Darren! Cheers for the link. Haven’t actually seen the feature yet! Lovely to be connected with you on this. All the best, mate!

    Karen Cheng

  9. Kevin Thomas says:

Big Congrats Darren!!! This is a great way to open up the “offline” world to the realm of blogging.

For the folks coming here for the first time, take a chance to look around and read some of the posts he mentioned in this article. Darren is a genius when it comes to blogging and you can learn a lot from him.

  10. Darren Rowse says:

no problem Karen – we’ll have it up on youtube soon enough so you can view it.

  11. If you’ve just seen Darren on the TV and this is the first time you’ve visited his blog… a) listen to the man, he knows what he’s talking about! and b) join in on the conversation and leave some comments, we like to hear from everyone.

  12. crashsystems says:

It is certainly true that you focus on making money with blogging, but I’d say that there is much more to your site then that. Though I’ve only been at it as a hobby for the past month, I’ve found that your site has a lot of content that is relevant to people who are blogging without any goals of generating an income.

  13. Beth says:

    Hi Darren

I just saw you on TEN News and came to check out your blog. I would love to get into blogging, and have dabbled a bit, but on a very casual basis. Because of health problems I am unable to go out to work, so if there is a way I can make money from blogging, it would be great. I’m hoping that your blog will help me with that. I am very impressed with what I’ve seen of your website so far.

    Cheers, Beth

  14. Beth says:

    PS. Thanks for the welcome

  15. Shannon says:

Saw it on channel Ten in Adelaide and jumped on this site to give it a look.

    Sounds Interesting.

  16. Frank says:

Great stuff Darren, will try and catch it tonight. Congratulations.

Who knows, today Channel 10, maybe tomorrow the ABC!!!

Btw, great excuse to do a new ‘intro” post for your new readers.

  17. Sandy Naidu says:

I am based in Sydney…I missed it this morning…Hopefully they will show it tonight….A very nice welcome to visitors who come here after watching the news…

  18. Sueblimely says:

I had a phone call at the time I was about to watch the news. I did hit record to record on PC via TV tuner card – no sound on recording. sigh. I will look out for it tonight.

  19. Stephen Bayne says:

I saw the story on the news this morning and had to come have a look as I always wanted to start a proper blog. Congratulations on the news story.

  20. Aaron says:

I’m australian, but i knew about you before this.

    Sadly, I missed your interview.

Well Done on getting some coverage!.

Over Here, TEN News is a little bit more prestigious than the other news bulletins.

    Once more, Well Done!

  21. Congrats on the publicity Darren. Well deserved!

  23. Adam Singer says:

    Congrats!

To all new readers, this is THE site to read if you want to become a successful blogger.

    Darren rocks!

  24. Ryan McLean says:

I am jealous of your tv video…this is great.
One day when I have been blogging solid for 4 years I will appear on tv.
I bet when you first started blogging you never expected any of this. Do you ever miss being a pastor? Do you ever wish you did something differently?
I am studying at Hillsong Bible College at the moment and I want to become a youth pastor but I have been thinking about blogging now as a full time job…
I have started making a small income from my financial blog…any words of wisdom of full time ministry vs blogging?

  25. Tess Rowland says:

Congragulations on the exposure you recieved last night through the news. I found the piece very interesting and I have read alot from your site. I am a single mother of one currenlty living at home with my parents and I would love to think that blogging could be my way of earning a little bit to help out my parents. :) Thanks for the tips on your site. I am hoping they will help me.

  26. You did a great job representing the blogging community!

  27. Claudia says:

Just a general comment. I love this blog and I wanted to tell you all that.
It is very professional and I get tons of tips of it.
    Thanks for the hard work!
