ProBlogger The Book – Readers Pictures Round 1

Posted By Darren Rowse 21st of May 2008 ProBlogger Site News 0 Comments

Last week I asked those readers who have bought a copy of the ProBlogger book to send in a picture of them with the book. I put up 3 prizes for my favorite pictures (a book at Amazon to the value of $20). Below you’ll see all of the submitted pictures. The first three are my favorites and win a prize.

If you’d like to send your photo with/of the ProBlogger book simply upload it to your blog, Flickr or some other online photo sharing service and then share the link in the comments of this post.

In another two or three weeks I’ll do another mashup of the photos. You’ll get a link back to your blog and the chance to win one of three books (to the value of $20) from Amazon (this should give time for most people to be able to get a copy).

Is this a way to create social proof for a product?

  8. Darren sure is getting a lot of advertising.

  9. Ok, today’s been my first opportunity to read several chapters of the book. So far, so excellent1

I’ve skimmed the chapters that are about things I’m familiar with – although even there I’ve picked up some useful tips. I’ve identified some chapters that I will need go through again more thoroughly, particularly the chapter about choosing a topic for one’s blog.

Haven’t finished it, but I would highly recommend the book. I’ll review it on my blog once I’ve finished.

  10. ProBlogger Book in Germany:

  12. I love the pic of the Boston Terrier with the book!

  13. Thanks For Showing my pic Darren also the dog pic is the best congrats to everyone

  14. How nifty that you put my picture up, even though I’m not actually IN it–though at least it’s surrounded by other good books–spinning yarn, taking pictures, and Problogger–it’s like a list of the current passions (grin).

  15. anonymous coward – I’m doing it for a few reasons:

    1. it’s fun to see who is reading my book
    2. it does create a sense of ‘we’ around the book. Perhaps it’s ‘social proof’, perhaps it’s people wanting to participate in the ‘ProBlogger brand’
    3. it’s a small reward for people who have bought the book and want to help spread the word of it a little
    4. it was happening already – I had a few people email me photos of them with the book and even post them to their blogs – I figured it’d be fun to collect them together.
    5. I like to put faces to readers – I think it’s good for the blog, good for those readers and good for the book.

not sure there’s anything wrong with any of that – people seem to be happy to participate.

  16. Glad you guys liked my photo (and my dog, Dax). ;)

  17. “it does create a sense of ‘we’ around the book. Perhaps it’s ’social proof’, perhaps it’s people wanting to participate in the ‘ProBlogger brand’”

On that note… where do we get ProBlogger T-Shirts?

  18. Great to put some faces to names

  19. whoaa…

there are so many great picture..
and i love that dog..i never thought a dog read this book..

    warm hug from here.
    Trims.

  20. Seeing how everyone looks like they are having fun taking pictures with your book makes me want to buy it! Looks like great advertising to me. :P Also great pictures by the way!

  21. I would buy the book if I could afford it, however I have no money.
My only job is my blog and it is in it’s beginning stages…so I’m not making a whole lot of income?
Anyone want to donate one to me?

  22. That dog pic is too cute :)
and Hunter – quit pickin’ on me.. it was with my lil cell phone cam that I turned on myself LOL

  23. thanks there… finally i have internet to check out this :D Good luck guys!!!!! I’m reading the book now :P

  24. Compliments! But is Umn a man?

  25. anonymous coward says: 05/22/2008 at 4:53 am

I’m not saying there was anything wrong with it. It could be a clever marketing trick. I’m interested in those.

  26. I am just sorry I did not think of it first – it’s a great idea.

  27. Thanks for including mine! :-)

  28. that little dog is really cute . he deserves a cookie

  29. All of these pics are really good! I especially liked Kelvin’s – the one with the cookie monster! :)
    He deserves a cookie too!

  30. Dan,

this book has changed me forever.

I started blogging in 2004 and never really understood the process — all I knew was that I loved it. Formally, I worked as a journalist and when I retired from the field, I needed an outlet to continue telling compelling stories. Blogging was ‘it’ for me. I love it, love it, love it – especially because I hated being in front of the camera. However, I’ve never been able to develop a niche – my blog, for 4 years, functioned as a “news of the day” thread. It was fulfilling for me, but not what was needed for the “industry”. Yesterday, I read and re-read your section of developing a niche and NOW I GET IT. Finally, after 4 years! You do know blog years are like dog years ;) Anyway, I just wanted to say THANKS for being honest with your readers and sharing this gem of a book.

  31. The whole gang came for a special reading of the book, courtesy of the only one of them who could actually read. :)

  32. Hi Darren,
please visit http://www.technotip.org for the photos….I have been sending my photo links here in comment section, but its not showing here.Hope spam blocker is blocking it from displying it here!

  33. Darren, thanks for the book (and Chris too). It’s been a big help for me in structuring my blog into something with a little more entertaining and helpful.

I’m hoping to use a great deal more of the information in developing a viritual community blog for our church’s coffee shop.

I wrote a small review of the book on my blog Clark Kent’s Lunchbox, which also includes my picture submission.

    Thanks again

  34. Thank you Darren and Chris for a great read. While I was skeptical about how much I could get from a book by the both of you, i.e. your blog tips are free and why should I pay?

I am happily surprised. The book format and the way your have structured it has made it easy read and easier to retain.

Here is a link to my blog with photo.

  35. I got the copy of Problogger from Borders in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia last week and finished reading it in 2 days.

My two picture of me and the Problogger book:

    Not sure which is preferable.
