My Book Arrived!

Today there was a little excitement in the Rowse House.

On returning from a morning out there was a parcel sitting on our doorstep. On opening it I found:

It’s been fun to watch many of you ordering, receiving and even reviewing the ProBlogger book – but it’s a very strange feeling to hold it in your hands after all this time of working on it.

While blogging and authoring a book have some pretty similar tasks involved in putting them together – a blog is a fairly intangible thing while our little book is… well it’s something that I can hold. I also think it’s probably going to be useful in explaining what I do to friends and family who don’t quite get it.

While I’m on the topic of the book – thanks to those who’ve been reviewing it. If you have the book I’d love to hear your thoughts on it – whether it be as a review on your blog, a review on the Amazon page for it (there’s a few up already) or just a comment below. You might just find your review quoted on the book’s home page if you review it!

update – last night was a surreal experience. My wife went to bed at 10pm as she usually does. Two hours later I went to bed expecting to find her asleep and there she was with a cup of tea reading the book! I wish I’d had my camera with me at that moment!

For those who know ‘V’ (my wife) you’ll know that she’s not really into blogging – she doesn’t read my blogs at all (apart from when I’m traveling to catch up on what I’m doing and to show my son ‘Daddy’ on my latest video). So to see her reading my book was pretty funny.

What surprised me was that she told me that after reading 4 chapters she thought she now ‘got’ blogging. Yep – after all these years of me trying to explain what I do to her I had to write a book so she’d get it!

If that doesn’t convince you to buy it – I don’t know what will!

    Have a great weekend! :o)

  5. I received mine on wednesday :-) lol I wouldn’t have thought that I’ll receive it before you Darren. I’ve ordered it from Germany over the american amazon site (.com). I ordered on April the 14th

Very nice book, I like the style!

  6. Got my copy from Amazon and have started reading it.
I look forward to a good read and learning lots.
Thanks for writing this book, think it’s something many of us can use.

  7. I’m still waiting for mine – Amazon UK don’t seem to have figured out it’s been released yet.

  8. Congratulations Darren!

A sweet milestone for you. I’ve been reading your posts for a few months & they have been very useful to newbie me. Can’t wait to read it myself.

Again, thank you the hard (and hopefully fun) work that you do. (And your work on Twitter is remarkable by the way.)

    Congrats, enjoy the warm glow.

  9. Congrats! Wish you all the best. Yes, sure, it would be a pleasure to review your book.

  10. You must be very proud! A lot of your heart and soul in a project like that. I still only have your site to follow as your book is not available in the Great White North (Canada) yet! Soooon I hope! Congrats again!

  11. It’s funny that so many other people received and read the book before you had a physical copy in your hands! Congrats on finally getting your own copy :-)

  12. Congratulations Darren! what a memorable milestone in your blogging career.

  13. @Armin: not available in Canada? I had mine shipped to Germany :))

  14. Congratulations Darren. It is a wonderful experience, isn’t it? I went through this same thing last year – publishing a book that grew out of a blog and just to have the finished product in my hands was an unbelievable experience. I haven’t got mine in Amazon yet but it should be next month, I hope. In the meantime I do have it in bookstores around Australia.

And how awesome that V now has some understanding of what it’s all about! Tell her to come join us all!

  15. Got my copy in the mail today.

    Congratulations Darren!

  16. Mines on its way too. Can’t wait!

  17. Only two left on amazon.com!

  18. TWITTERED IT on May 5th!

    GOOD WORK, Darren and Chris!

  20. Oh yeah.. I think I’d order one to convince my wife as well. You’ve done great job there Darren.

  21. Congrats! I remember receiving my first copy of Poor Richard’s Internet Recruiting back in 2000; it was such a thrill to actually hold it in my hands.

What’s the best memory you have of writing it? Mine is being stranded at the Chicago Hilton during a massive snowstorm for 2 days and deciding, hmmmm, not much to do – let’s write!

Did you also receive the readers’ proof too? As an avid bookaholic, I always wondered if my books’ readers proofs ended up in the The Strand…. :)

    Enjoy,

    Barbara

  22. Congratulations on your new book!

I also received a copy today. I hope it will be worth the money ;)

  23. Great job Darren!

Maybe with your help we will all be authors some day.

  24. I want a copy of your book. Can’t wait to read it :D

  25. Congratulations, Darren!

  26. WOW.. Darren, your wife story was a little bit emotional to me. that would have been a wonderful experience seeing your wife reading your work. I’m sure she must have had a vague idea of what you do, or how you earn all your money, but seeing a love one trying to understand what you do, is just wonderful, at least I would feel that way.. hopefully she’ll get encourage to write a post or two on your blog, then we will know the true side of Darren, V, does he snores too much?

  27. … What? I thought they’d send you samples to look over before it actually goes out on the market. Maybe I got the book before you did too?

  28. Cute story – congrats on the book! looking forward to receiving my copy any day now from Amazon.

    lisa

  29. maybe I’ll have to give the book to my mother to explain what I am doing!

  30. Congrats on the book darren and thanks for donating a copy to my contest.

  31. I’m in Amarillo but should be back in Vegas by Monday. My copy from Amazon should be waiting for me.

  32. Congrats, Darren!

My copy’s on order. Can’t wait to read it….

  33. Hey Darren,
If you haven’t already… make this an e-book (kindle) and audio book too!

Also, use the “blog” function for authors on Amazon… where you can post a blog directly on your product page… your book IS all about blogging after all :-)

Some book pages have “author interviews” as well… and I’ve even seen some with video clips by the author. A video will add that personal touch that’s so appealing… and why most of us love your blog so much!

Congrats! I have my copy on my night stand… I’ll start it after I finish “Word of Mouth Marketing…” by Andy Sernovitz. A great book! He has a blog on his Amazon product page too.

  34. Darren,

I have been in internet marketing for three years and just got into blogging in the last two months. I have built over 200 webistes of all shapes and sizes, sales pages, adsense sites, ebook sites, you name it. But it was work and it was hard and sometimes it sucked.

I started blogging (about Starbucks) because I happen to enjoy the company, enjoy business overall, and enjoy the internet. Therefore, it was easy to get going with blogging and your book helped a lot. I got your book at Barnes & Noble a few days before it’s official release and finished it in one sittitng.

For all those out there that have been into site developement and think blogging is the same, Darren is here to set you straight! Don’t hit the submit button before you give this book a once over.

    Why?

There are a number of nuances in blog world that don’t exist in IM or site developement that you need to have a firm understanding of before you get ramped up.

The way you monetize a blog is different than the way you do standard web pages and SEO is much more link focused and built around the crowd as opposed to keywords.

And this is where Darren’s book helps getting you off the ground. As I said, I have made a living off of site building, SEO, and affiliate programs but I love blogging and thanks to Darren, I am better for it!

  35. That’s a funny story about your wife!
    Congratulations on the book!

  36. You hit jackpot with book Daren! :)

  37. Hey Darren, I suppose writing that and book and seeing your wife get it made it all worth it. :)

Now if only I can get my mum to get it to… Might have to buy your book!

    Best Wishes
    Carl

  38. Congrats Darren! My book is in town but couldn’t be delivered. Silly me didn’t check the address(moved last year), so I will go by and pick it up Monday.

I’m looking forward to reading it as I’ve gotten so much out of your blog and think the book will be a great resource as well.

  39. It’s a great book. Congratulations.

But perhaps a mention for poor Chris Garrett who appears to have written about two-thirds of it, gets second billing and not even a nod on the blog post about ‘my’ book arriving.

    Seems a shame.

  40. Thanks for the support Dubber but without Darren there wouldn’t have been a ProBlogger book, and we are a team so I am super happy with how it has worked out, no need to feel sorry for me, I am over the moon :)

  41. I will be grabbing my copy this week!

  42. All the best with the book. My wife does not read my blog either, thinks bloggers are nutcases…

  43. I’m so proud of you, D. And I’m waiting for my autographed copy (hint, hint) to arrive. ;)

I think that’s wonderful about finding V reading it too! I’m so happy she’s “getting it” and I just have to say that while those of us who know her, already know she’s a wonderful person, the fact that she’s so proud of you and has taken that vested interest by reading the book, just proves us all right.

And as for Chris – You simply rock, dude. I couldn’t have imagined a better person for D to hook up with to get this book out there. And there’s not a single doubt in my mind that he feels exactly the same way. :)

  44. Congrats Darren! Thrilled for you! As a writer myself who gets excited just seeing my articles in print, I can’t imagine what it must be like to hold a whole book that is yours!

I am really hoping the mailman brings my copy from Amazon today so that I can dive into reading it like your wife did! (Love the story about her!)

  45. Congratulations on your new book! Great title and subtitle. Excellent for branding and catching a potential reader’s attention. I just ordered it at Amazon and I can’t wait to read it.

    Evelyn

  48. I have been notified that my copy has shipped. I am hoping it shows up soon. I loved the first chapter and can’t wait to read more.

  49. The update about your wife enjoying the book and finally getting blogging cracked me up. Ok, I must hunt down a copy of your book. :)
