AdSense Roll out Ad Review Center to All Publishers

Posted By Darren Rowse 24th of April 2008 Adsense 0 Comments

AdSense have today rolled out their new(ish) Ad Review Center for all AdSense publishers. I’m happy about this as I was in this last batch of publishers to see it.

The idea behind the Ad Review Center is that when advertisers target your specific blog you now can see that they’re targeting it and can approve or ban and ad depending on whether you want it to appear on your site or not. This gives you more control over the ads that appear on your site.

Note – this is only for ads targeted to your site (ie general AdSense ads that are contextually placed on your site are not included).

Also keep in mind that when you remove an ad you could be decreasing the profitability of your site as it removes the ad from the ‘auction’ that happens between Advertisers to have their ad appear on your blog.

To find the Ad Review Center log into the ‘Setup’ area of AdSense, then click the ‘Competitive Ad Filter’ area and opt into the Ad Review Center program (it should be highlighted in a little green box).

  1. Is there any way I can get back into adsense after getting kicked out years ago for invalid clicks?
I love your post by the way darren. They help me create a great financial blog…not just an average one

  2. Ryan – I’ve not really heard of many people having success with this. I’d email them and see. Given enough time they might be willing to give you another chance.

  3. This is interesting. I am always hesitant to block out ads because as you mention, you could be blocking ads that would be profitable on your blog. I would find this helpful to block ads that do not fit my blog’s message, or my personal beliefs, etc. Thanks for the heads up!

  4. I thought that this feature has already exist before.

BTW, I have created a review on your life story.

  5. What other options are there than adsense? I can’t use it for ethical reasons as I am a doctor and I am giving out medical advice on my blog, I don’t want my readers to be confused by the hype that the adsense adverts will naturally draw with my content. I am trying to hammer out all the hype in the alternative medicine world…not potentate it…

I guess I can go after individual ads in my field…but I have just been lazy about it.

Doesn’t seem like there is a very easy solution for moderately popular websites to make some money.

  6. It’d be even cooler if they could let us review general contextually targeted ads.

  7. That’s not enough in my opinion. Barely a start… they’ve got a long way to go to satisfy me as they have clearly been ripping publishers off for far too long.

I’m done with Adsense. Done…finished… outta here.

  8. Great to see that option become more generally available. I’ve seen the occasional inappropriate ads for one or another of my sites, and having another option to get rid of them is always welcome. Just have to wait and see if they’re inappropriate site targeting or inappropriate keyword targeting.

  9. That looks like a good option for me, realise I have had my head in the sand with adsense. Like Nicole I have been lazy, now I realise what $ I have left on the table

  10. Thanks for the update.

This is interesting as I’ve just launched this project. I’ll check it out right away…

  11. Hope this feature helps in getting more relevant ads to one’s blog.

  12. this is a good news … I am heading over to my adsense to see who I need to block :P

  13. Ryan, If you haven’t already done so, send a request to google to review their decision to block your adsense account. But do it politely as they are people too. If it was not your fault, they may reinstate it. I was blocked but got reinstated two months after sending a request for review. Good Luck !

  14. Should be interesting to see how different blogs respond to this.

  15. This can be good feature to stop rival ads that want to hack your customers but will surely decrease the income. You can only don one thing at a time after all, either stop rivals or get paid by rivals and let your customer goooooo.

  16. It’s important to let the publishers have control over this, some times links on my blog do not relate to the content. Plus since I talk about debt freedom, I don’t want to advertise payday loan sharks. – Debt Free Hispanic

  17. I received an e-mail from AdSense about this new Review Center and at first I thought about going straight there to block some ads.

After thinking it over, I changed my mind due to the reasons you stated above. For now, Im going to wait and listen to others for a little bit to see how it works for them.

  18. From the Adsense Ads that appear on my blog I am confident that no company has targeted my site.

I will keep an eye open for them.

  19. another good news from our brother google adsuck adsense.

  20. There are of course a lot of Adsense-related strategies that go into an overall Adsense strategy.

Traffic-building is essential (in my view). Keyword placement around the ads so as to be sure that the content that drove the visitor to your site in the first place is in line with the Adsense ads being diplayed by Adsense is also a must.

Adsense strategy is no simple affair, but requires savvy, research, and work. However money can be made, there is no doubt about it, from a well thought-out Adsense strategy.

(For anyone interested, I have a blog that addresses some of the things on th site you are reading (or, if you are the owner of Problogger, writing :-) . Check it out at http://adsensestrategiesadsense.wordpress.com)

  21. have anyone used Clicksor before? because i heard they were a good alternative to Adsense.
