You’ve Read ProBlogger the Blog - Now Buy the Book
I’m excited to announce today one of the worst kept secrets in my life - over the last year (longer actually) I’ve been writing a book with Chris Garrett. Today we’re Pre-Launching it as we’re just weeks from the book becoming available for purchase. The book is published by Wiley and is titled:
ProBlogger Book — Secrets for Blogging Your Way to a Six-Figure Income
I’ll speak more over the coming weeks about the writing process - but today we just wanted to let you know about the upcoming launch, to point you to a site we’ve put together for the book and to invite you to sign up for a newsletter that will give you access to a sample chapter as well as a series of weekly blogging tips for a whole year.
Pre-Order and Save
The book is available for pre-ordering already at both Amazon and Barnes & Noble. Amazon has an extra 5% discount currently running for it as a pre-order (for the next two weeks - it will be available on 28 April).
What’s the Book About?
Well the title really says it all - it’s about Chris and my experience as bloggers making a living from our blogging. You can read more of the outline and topics covered here.
Get on the Email List
As mentioned above - we’re offering everyone the opportunity of joining an email list that will give you access to a free taster chapter of the book as well as free weekly blog tips. You can sign up for this here.
PS: see Chris’s announcement of the book here.

Congratulations to you and Chris, Darren. Good luck with the launch, I’m sure it will do well. Is there an affiliate program? Please don’t say Amazon Associates…
Also, what are the most compelling reasons that we loyal blog readers buy the book instead?

Congratulations Darren. I can’t wait to read it!

April 8th, 2008 11:47 pm
Will it be coming in eFormat?
Since many of your readers are on-line,
that might be a nice option to have.
I know that I would prefer it
(I’d buy it today if it was eBook,
I’d likely wait until I see it in the bookstore
for print.)
Heck, if it is slammin’
(and I suspect it will be),
I’ll likely buy it in both formats.

thanks all.
Bontb - yep it’s an actual book (ie published by Wiley who is an actual book publisher :-) It’s got a launch date of 28 April (see above) so Amazon will have it on the way a few days later from my understanding of it. So far it’s just Pre-Ordering that they are doing.
Jacob - ummmm… it’s the Amazon Affiliate program - Barnes Noble have one too.

Good form, boys! While I look forward to reading the book myself, that’s not the best part to me.
The release of this book helps to add a much-needed public awareness of Internet writing as a legitimate career. That’s the biggest reason I’m excited about it.

If I would releases Problogger book I would do hard copy, its better! because you will have it at home, display it somewhere in your home or work office other people will see it and will be interested. Or even talk about it by noticing that letter P looks familiar to them.

I can’t wait to read it, it will be great to have ‘your brains’ in a hard-copy format that I can go relax and absorb, all the while highlighting the tar out of it! ;)
Congratulations to both of you! :)

That’s fantastic news — well done, Darren! I’m really looking forward to reading you write about the process of producing it, too; what was it like collaborating on a book?
This is definitely going on my “buy with my freelance blogging money” list — I bought Freelance Switch’s “How to be a Rockstar Freelancer” and read the whole thing cover to cover over the weekend.
Well done again — and also a big THANKS for producing what I’m sure is going to be a brilliantly helpful book!

Huge congrats and smart move. I pre-ordered my copy this morning via Amazon.
I’d be curious why you chose to go with a publisher rather than D.I.Y. given your collective reach and ability to promote and sell direct.

April 9th, 2008 12:31 am
thanks all for your well wishes and congrats.
Bruce Houghton, numerous reasons but one of the reasons is that a publisher like Wiley opens up new audiences for us. While we’d love to sell a tonne of books and make some money one of the things about books is that they often give authors credibility and end up building profile and finding new audiences. I suspect a book like this could well drive traffic to our blogs as much as our blogs drive traffic to it.

April 9th, 2008 12:48 am
I agree with Darren.
The press and media outlets an established publisher like Wiley has access to more than offsets any loss of book revenues.
Especially if the book is being used as a pr tool rather than a profit center (there isn’t that much money in selling books, there is a LOT of money in the speaking gigs and consulting a book can help secure).

Nelson - I’m sure it’ll be available form them in store - if not they’d be able to order it for you.
For those asking about international release - I’m told it’s a world wide release and you should be able to get it everywhere but that it’s a 4-6 week delay for non US readers due to shipping/printing etc. Amazon does ship to many countries though so it’s probably quicker to get a copy from them.
Dennis Ray Nestor Jr. - no plans for any signing tours at this point - but happy to sign one if we do bump into each other :-)
JoLynn - not too hard to keep it a secret - it was harder to actually write it!
Cary, Lamonte and others - no plans for an ebook. This is a paper one

Would this book affect the success of your Fix Figure Blogging course? Many people might think that buying the book ($16.49) is a cheaper alternative than taking the course ($427).
Just a though
Suzie Cheel
April 11th, 2008 12:48 pm
Aaron,
just my 2 cents worth. I was on class 1 yesterday and I know a lot about blogging. Darren may call me an intermediate blogger?
I picked up things from Darren and Andy on class yesterday that I doubt you would get from the book. There is also the forum where you get to interact with both as well as other participants.
I bought the course at early bird price and I don’t know if you can still join, but if you decide to would love you to head to my site to join up. http://www.abundancehighway.com and click on the SFB button. Thanks :)

April 11th, 2008 1:03 pm
Thanks for the offer Suzie, but right now my timing is not right. Baby on the way!
So will consider taking the course at a later time.
I do understand that the course will cover more topics than the book and I hope everyone looks at it that way.
Darren Rowse
April 12th, 2008 1:32 am
Aaron - yeah I think the book and course are quite different. The course is more personal with opportunity for interaction, testing of ideas and even a little looking at people’s specific blogs/projects where as the book is obviously less so. There is some nice overlap between the two though - in a sense the book would make a nice text book for the class.
