Is having a Facebook group for your blog/brand a good alternative to setting up forums? I haven’t reached critical mass in my blog to justify the time/expense of forums. My experience with Facebook groups, though, is that they’re not active.

Hi Darren,

This is my first visit to problogger, I like the content and will be back.

Must say though in your “make money” section, your first two suggestions are useless for a new blogger like myself to make money. Adsense and Chitika will not make any money for you unless you are getting thousands of visits to your site,upon sign up with Chitika they tell you up front that it is geared for sites getting I think 10k + a month visits. I guess for us new bloggers SEO needs to come before we get all excited about making any money .

Mr. Gadget, all joking aside you make an interesting point. Darren, I have been reading ProBlogger for a couple of months, so I may have missed much older posts on this. Any thoughts on personal security when creating a WWW presence?

If any of you are aware of specific posts on this, please feel free to list in lieu of a full reply. Thanks so much to Darren and all readers out there for some good info!

Hi Darren,

i am new to blogging and will be starting out once i finalize site design. What i wonder is how all part time bloggers keep up with all social networking sites…?? Sometimes it takes a lot amount of time.

Makes no sense to register in a social networking site and not be active on it. Hence i just started out with Orkut, Facebook, LinkedIn and will add Twitter.

I just made this exact list (with the exception of Friend Feed, but I’ll check that out!) and starting making a conscious effort to
use them on a regular basis.

Darren, how come you’re leaving del.icio.us aside? And likewise Digg? Seems I’ve read about those two here before, so I’d imagine you’re on them?..

Also, the mugur comment seems like spam. It’s generic, it’s offtopic, it makes no reference to Pb, and it could be said about any blog. Obviously the person hasn’t been reading Pb for any length of time, or he’d know about Ben’s work with you (and work outside that generally, as with his old College Startup site, for instance…)

Ali – I’m increasingly finding LinkedIn to be useful – its a more serious tool which can open up doors once your network grows. It’s Q and A tool is also useful.

Albert – DPS and ProBlogger both hover at around the same mark – one day PB is higher and the next DPS is.

Mugur – it was custom designed. No free downloads – it cost cold hard cash to get it designed.

Mari – yeah, facebook has become more and more annoying with the app invites. I ignore them all and just look at friend invites.
