AdSense for Video Goes into Beta Testing
I’m literally running out the door for a week’s vacation but the news broke last night that AdSense for Video has finally come out of it’s initial pilot testing into a wider beta test. You can read about it on the AdSense blog or check out an overview of it with this video.
Keep in mind - these are not video ads - but ads that become embedded in video that you show on your blog.
At this point it’s a US publisher only test (grrrr) but I’m assured that other parts of the world will come into the program at some point (I got the sense it wouldn’t be too long). There’s more information on the blog or here on their Video Advertising Solutions page.

Not surprised to see them getting this moving, since so many other video sites have been adding ads to video. Should be interesting to see what people think of them in practice and whether or not the ads are overused. I saw a video recently that had 6 different ads pop up on it, and many of the comments were rather annoyed about the amount of advertising.

Hmmm,
Although Google Adsense is great to make some money, it would be quite annoying to watch a video with ads rotating every 5 seconds.
Theres enough “Make Money With ______” ads on the internet on webpages, do we really need them in our movies?

I don’t know if i’ll be using this. Seems very interesting and would like to see what the blogosphere think of this.
Thanks for the video!

Ugh! I don’t want to have to see ads when I’m watching a video on YouTube.

Its “better” than tv, although is going in the same direction. A great opportunity for some, a stress factor for others. Hate ads (even text)

Finally their doing something to make a serious use of YouTube. It would be very interesting to see how this thing goes.
I don’t think it will be a phenom like AdSense, but the revenue share must be bigger..

As a Search Marketing Manager, I have serious reservations about how well the traffic these ads generate will convert. In other words, the ROI for the advertiser will probably be about the same or worse as it is from contextual text ads. And that’s not great.

Quite true John. I think that people watching videos are in “entertainment” mode, not “click relevant links” mode, and so it would be very tough to get them to click the ads after they become familiar to them. This is similar to internet users’ blindness to ads.
However, because Youtube videos generate such a large amount of views, the revenue potential (in theory) is high.

I’ve tried AdSense for video a while back, I guess I was one of the first to get it. Anyways, IMO it doesn’t look too great. Hopefully it changed since I checked it out last, I’ll have to have a look.

I’m curious to see what comes out of this … I’m sharing John F’s opinion on this … Maybe I’m too pessimistic about this thing.

Perhaps this will generate more clicks my holding a visitor’s attention longer than the contextual ads, which seem to be doing poorly for most people.

“literally” means “actually; without exaggeration or inaccuracy”.
If you were “literally running out the door” then you’d have to be blogging mid-stride, preferably as you pass through the doorway. I doubt this is the case.

I’m planning on producing video on my blog soon. This looks like a good way to monetize. Does anyone know how the payment system works?

Does anyone have any information, stats, or experience with how well these perform?? I am interested to hear from anyone who has made over 10 bucks with these ads.

This actually looks like it might be a step in the right direction. Personally I’m more inclined to watch a video ad than a regular ad, which hardly make you any money on low traffic.

Has anyone seen a comprehensive list of verticals and inventory for the placement of these ads? I think I’ve seen a total of two sites ever that had them installed ever since the pilot program started.
