Are you Noticing Changes in Page Rank and Backlinks Numbers from Google?

Posted By Darren Rowse 12th of January 2008 Search Engine Optimization 0 Comments

If my inbox is anything to go by there’s an update going on at Google at the moment that seems to be going beyond just a shift in Page Rank. I’ve had ALOT of readers reporting shifts in both PR and back link numbers. Lots of discussion, speculation and guess work in the forums about it (here and here).

Have you noticed any changes?

  1. All my sites went down one in page rank and I lost a lot of backlinks :(

    /Andreas

  2. My blog PR has taken a long leap from PRO to PR5..
    :)

  3. I do hope the update is still in progress! After waiting months to get pagerank for one of my sites, I got a PR4. Now it is reduced to zero. My other sites went from 3 to 0, and my newest remains at 0.

I don’t use paid links, PPP or anything like that at all. Guess I’ll just have to keep my fingers crossed :(

  4. Couple of sites have updated. Keeping an eye on the others to see how they shift.

  5. I have elevated to 1 from a 0.

Google back link count must have been bcz of the inclusion of some of the do-follow links that Google used to ignore earlier…..I have written a detailed post on my regarding this….hope that would explain the change in detail….

  6. I’m more or less in the same position as Amanda, in that my sites are at 0, and there are suggestions from various tools that I don’t have sufficient backlinks (unlikely, it’s been going for nearly a year).

My SE traffic has remained a good proportion of my overall traffic as I’ve been growing, so I’m losing the ability to care about PR.

LOL! my 2 weeks-old, “lorem ipsum” blog got 1 PR

My 2 month blog got PR3 today and it was like no PR information available. Now I am very good and sell PR3 links for 1$ at ebookdeal.blogspot.com

  9. From PR4 to a fat ZERO!

And this is on a clean site… I do hate Google.

  10. One of my Flickr photos got a 2. This blog stayed the same and one group I am in went down from 2 to zero.

  11. Ouch, sorry Jack, I went from PR3 to PR4

  12. By this blog I meant my blog. Sorry!

  13. Google seems to be doing a “constant update” now to PageRank instead of it’s “every so many month” update. New pages I see created can be assigned PageRank within days and other sites jumping about from 2 to 4 to 3 in the space of a few weeks. Sorta crazy.

  14. I dropped from a 6 to a 3, for no apparent reason. Nothing has changed – and my backlinks increased.

    I will. not. remove. TLA’s.

  15. Hm.. I really don’t care about it now..
Just blog and hope get some traffic..

  16. I think the algorithm changed again in a huge way.
My 2 month old blog went up from PR0 to PR3.
Good news for me, but I also heard of tons of sites that went down majorly.

  17. Still languishing on the 3 I was dropped back to when they updated back in Oct/Nov (I had one post level Text Link ad that was bringing in $3 a month), despite a reinclusion request.

Here’s hoping. In the meantime, keep on trucking, building non-Google traffic and hoping for some competition and regulatory action in the SE market.

  18. For a while I thought Google was punishing me for something, because my site had no backlinks at all, but now it has 4 :P. We’ll see what happens in the next week or so.

  19. Well Darren – I am really disappointed with mine and I hate Google PR.

Basically I got hammered on this blog from a 3 to a 2. The annoying thing is, I have more inbound links now than I did at the last update.

Plus, I never pay for links or do anything that Google don’t like.

Now I’m feeling as though I would be better off breaking the rules and paying for links from high PR sites.

  20. I found PR update and backlinks upadte in my all sites.
But this time it is beneficial for me. Increase PR for all my sites.

  21. i think there’s an update. 2 of my blogs got Page Ranks of 2 and 1. But there are also discussions about page ranks changing from 3 to 0 then back to 3 again.

  22. From 0 to 3 here, and changed no. of backlinks…

  23. ye – oh – ye .. one of the sites im optimizing is bouncing up and down in SERs and inlinks are not yet visible, olthough there are plenty of them… i was thinking that maybe i did something wrong, but as i ee now thi i a common phenomenon

  24. I’ve had a few sites go down as well. My main site (non-Im niche) is a blog that went from 4 to 2 since yesterday.

    Gregg

  25. My PR increased by 1 point and the backlinks increased 3 fold. Encouraging for me.

  26. Few sites went up, some stayed static. I don’t really bother keeping a note of PR and certainly don’t check backlinks on a regular basis – my life’s too short. :)

  27. My PR went up by 1 to a 3. I’m not complaining.

  28. Same, nothings change :(

  29. Mine didnt get changed as its a new blog that i shifted to.
But the one which i shut down got a PR3 from 0 :D http://www.drchetan.com/webmaster/ lol

  30. yes, my pagerank has increased

  31. My website went from pr2 to pr0.

  32. Mine is still the same, PR of 4. There has been no change for sometime now.

  33. Well.. 1 of my sites when from PR 7 to PR 6… The other remain the same.. PR 6

  34. deifnately pr as well as backling is changing
my blog entry in context with this is here.
    http://blog.anantshri.info/2008/01/12/pr-updatd-by-google/

also for backling my blog had 13 backlinks and now has 80 backlinks.

so i can conform the news.

details about pages whose page rank updates i have checked are listed.

  35. I went from a 1 to a 4. Yeehaaa. :-)

  36. Both of my blogs receive a Pagerank smackdown from 4 to zilch! Probably because of sponsored posts.

But that’s fine because business has been better ever since! In fact I got more organic search traffic now than before when both my blogs were PR4. Sweet! I’d take traffic than PR anytime anyday!

  37. Yep, my PR has gone from 2 to 0. Don’t really care though, Google can shove it. With their cheap penalties and exclusion of anyone but US for their referral. Not that I use it anyway but still, the principle is enough to be annoying.

  38. I’ve got a site 0>3 and another 4

  39. Them bloggers in those forums are hypocrites! As long as you have that little green bar on top your browsers, you still do care about pagerank period.

  40. Still stuck at PR3, but I have noticed an increase in my backlinks and old pages getting traffic now.

  41. Our blog pagerank is still stuck at 6, with no changes up or down in the past 6 months. The page rank for our Twitter feed however, *seems* to have dropped a point, and holding at 5.

    Hmmmm.

    -Brian-

  42. I saw a PR update from 4-5 seems this is only the first round of updates for blogs.

  43. My PR went from 2 to 4.

  44. I’ve seen a significant change in the number of links listed through google, but I haven’t seen any PR changes.

  45. DataCenter is down today so there is no chance to check on PR as well as the adsense :(

  46. Yeah, I’ve noticed changes in the number of backlinks as reported by Google’s Webmaster Tools, which for a few hours is inaccessible.

The PR stays the same, 4.

  47. Mohamed says: 01/13/2008 at 9:29 am

I’m not seeing any update in my pr3 blog, I checked using some pr tools, they either don’t work or show no results. maybe datacenter update are not allowing them now.

btw I Adsense account website seems to be down too.

  48. We’re up from 2 to 3, was expecting 6 or 7 :(
