I'd like to add my own analogy:

Blogging is like losing your sanity!!

I only say this because my first two weeks of setting up my blog has been one big headache. But I think it gets easier from now on??

Thanks for all the tips Darren. If I hadn't read your post 'Blogging is like watching grass grow' I think I might have given up after my first few days!

Darren, I love your Blog for both its design and content. But I think you've got a list of "similies" and not a list of "metaphors."

A similie and a metaphor are similar creatures but distinctly different. A similie is a comparison using "like" or "as." Metaphors often us the word, "is." Wikipedia explains the difference between the two under the content area for "metaphor."

Best wishes for a wonderful new year of blogging.

Interesting that 6% of these have to do with food...

But then again, 21% have to do with sex, while 31% have to do with sports/leisure activities.

At least you know where are minds are!

I have always felt blogging is like playing Simcity. The population is visitors and your funds are the results of ads. The more poeple you get to your site/city, the more taxes you get. Slow and steady progress will see your city grow over time.

There are a lot of changes you can make to make your city more pleasing on the eye which encourages growth. Land which was once popular, needs to be regularly tweaked to keep the land valuable. The city has to offer plenty of fun things for people to hang around. Hopefully in 2008, I can afford to put in an airport.

Finally, VisitorVille software will help you see your stats in Simcity mode. I haven't used it yet but it looks like fun.

I think that making money while blogging is like watching grass grow. I used to check my Google Adsense every 25 minutes hoping for something magical to happen. I was hoping to see a $15,000 month just like a blogger that I read often. It's been a year and a half and I still haven't stopped checking my Google Adsense every day but it's been fun.

I'm glad you enjoyed my blogging metaphor. (Yes, it was part of Successful Blog's Group Writing Project.)

For some reason, that post remains one of my favorites. I look forward to reading the other blogging metaphors.
