AdSense ‘Reporting Enhancements’ Due Soon
The official AdSense blog have just published two interesting snippets of information.
1. Those publishers who use AdSense for Search have a report available to them that shows data on what people use the search field to search for. They will stop tracking data on these reports that are older than 1 year. If you use these reports they encourage you to save your reports before 10 December.
2. Not explicit in their post - but there none the less - is a reference to upcoming ‘reporting enhancements’. No mention is made of what they are (we can pressume they’ll roll out sometime after the 10 December) - but it begs the question:
what report changes would you like AdSense to make?
Bonus Question - it is around this time each year that AdSense sends out Christmas gifts to many of their publishers.
- In 2006 it was a Digital Photo Frame
- In 2005 it was a little pack with computer accessories
- In 2004 it was a ‘Mood Lighting Radio‘
No one knows exactly how much you need to earn to get the gift - but it seems to be something that quite a few medium to large sized publishers receive in the first couple of weeks of December.
What do you think the AdSense Christmas gift will be this year?

Darren…I think the best adsense Christmas gift could be reverting back to the old clickable regions(many bloggers reported a drop in adsense earnings after the change was introduced)…and help the bloggers earn some more bucks… what do you say :)

Who cares about the reports. No one is earning any money anymore with these new links.
Well, by no one I mean me.
CTR down from above 7% to below 2%.

A $100 Text Link Ads voucher?
Darren, as there’s a lot of people hurting from the PR massacre and the clickable areas, this might be a good time to run some more articles on how to sell your own links or alternative monetisation. I’m down 50% on previous months with more traffic.

Nice post, I never knew Google would send out Christmas gifts. Like an earlier comment posted, A good gift would be to revert to the old click area.

Whatever the gift is, I’ll bet it comes from China.

@Abhijeet
I saw a rise in my Adsense Income after the change. Maybe the enhancements would be something along the google trends widget or similar stuff. And by the way I haven’t received any gifts till date… :) . Hope it is a big Adsense check ;P

The special treatment they already get seems like a pretty darn good gift.

I’m not generally a cynical person, but I know what the AdSense gift will be for me… the same as last year. Nothing.
It’s nice that the better publishers get something from Google in the holidays. Makes for something more to look forward to (or hope for).
Maybe it’ll be something that you could offer up as a prize in one of your contests. That way you win more traffic and someone else could say that they had something that came as a gift from Google - even though Google didn’t send it to them.

Hmm, RT, sorry to hear that.
Maybe it’s the Christmas effect, but my earnings have gone up since the changes. They certainly haven’t gone down, anyway.
I’m not sure every publisher who gets a gift also gets “special treatment” — I think the thresholds are quite different.

I dunno, probably a “Pagerank Gift”.
Looks nice, everybody talks about it for days on end, and you can boast about it when yours is big, however the excitement dies down quickly after the first few days.

What I want from Google reporting is full info without the bother of channels: what ads worked best, what pages they worked best on - like Asrep, for example.
If they can’t do that, my alternate hope would be that they’d dump that stupid channel id and do it like Chitika: let us use channel names that we do not have to predefine.

I got two of the digital photo frames sitting in my draw at work. Pretty cool items which sell for about £50 here in the UK.
This year I’m hoping it will be an iPhone :)
