As for the IE love… Institutions like IE. I’ve heard of several schools who prohibit students from installing or using Firefox. With IE6, the school’s IT department can restrict some stuff, like hide the Tools menu [via system policies]. They can’t do that with Firefox or other browsers [or so I was told].

As mentioned, Browsershots is great for checking your site on browsers or OS that you might not have access to.

Re: IE usage (Sly and Michael), I have this theory that most IE users use IE because it’s the default browser. If they cared about updating, they might as well download Firefox or another browser that works properly. Am I wrong? Are there lots of people that really like IE?

66tx – Congrats! Don’t worry about the confusion. There is just no need to care about most of the other parts of the webserver you installed. So long as you know how to install WordPress on it, you’re grand. :)

Sly – lol – There are always people who don’t want to upgrade. Usually because they don’t realise/don’t care about the new features or whatever else the upgrade does. We just have to live with it. xD

glblguy – I used to use that a while back, but it was so slow. You have to wait quite a while between taking a picture and actually seeing it. It’s much nicer to just have all the browsers (Even if getting IE6 on Vista was a pain in the neck…)

Sean – I know that that was probably addressed to Darren (The real blogger here), but my 2 cents is not to see us as bloggers. We’re just people. If you want a busy person to help you out with something, it’s usually best to offer them a nice reason to do so in return (Not necessarily money! :P )

Dozens – I’m sorry, I don’t have a Mac. Have you looked at the installation guide on xampp? There doesn’t seem to be much to it (Provided you know how to access the terminal?)

Shane – I think you’ve missed the point here. It’s not about putting different themes onto different parts of your site. It’s about updating the whole site, and not breaking it in the process.

Hafiz – lol – Well that’s true! Just so long as you have an idea of what you’d like to play with.

Adam – I think we’re all a little guilty of that. If the change in question is a big enough one, it can be a little too risky to make the changes on the live site.

Well I’ve thought about the changes I wanted to do to my blog and I went straight into changing it. Why waste time thinking of when to change? In fact I’ve just changed my site design yesterday!

But most modern blogs have a way to view more than one theme on the board.

For instance wordpress has a theme per post option – it is as simple a writing a draft, assigning the theme to the draft and previewing it…..

I am certain that other blogging platforms would have similar methods, including a way to maniplulate the url, since the theme is usually stored in a PHP variable.
