How Much Did You Earn from Blogging In October? [POLL]

Posted By Darren Rowse 8th of November 2007 Reader Questions 0 Comments

This week’s Reader Poll asks bloggers how much they earned from blogging in October.

This is a poll that I ran in 2006 and I’m interested to see whether there has been much of a change in the results.

Before you vote – here are a few things to keep in mind:

  • I’m asking about ALL forms of income from your blog – from direct income earners like Advertising, Selling products, writing Paid Reviews and using Affiliate programs through to indirect earners like consulting or speaking work that you might have picked up BECAUSE of your blog (more on the distinction between direct and indirect earnings here).
  • I’m also talking on a personal level – what YOU personally earnt from ALL of the blogs you work on.
  • Don’t answer straight away – tally it up, give it some thought and then let us know.
  • If you didn’t earn any money from your blog in October either because you tried and didn’t have any success or because you don’t try to then there is an option for you in the poll also.
  • If you’d like to comment on your vote or on the poll in general feel free to do so on this post.

Here’s the poll.

I will be posting about the results of last week’s poll on whether you’ve done paid reviews on your blog in the coming 24 hours.

  1. I made about 45 between three blogs. Pretty pathetic, I know. :D But that´s because I haven´t been focusing on monetizing my blogs much . . . I will be doing that to get my blogs up and earning well by my birthday in April. My goal is to be able to sell several by then.

  2. I actually made $600 and some change. I am about 200 short of beating my driving income from blogging. I am all sad recently about my driving pay….LOL…. It comes on in spurts.

Anyways, October was a great month. I love blogging.

  3. It’s impossible to track, really, because my blog is closely linked with our farm’s blog and my wife’s blog which are closely linked with an incomplete online store and our eBay store. I reported total internet earnings.

  4. interesting to see that as of now it is 100-499 as the peek income. I missed that just by few dollars…

my income source is adsense from my blog and freelance work in other blogs which isn’t anything set. So I sometimes earn more and sometimes less…

although I am happy the way my blog is going and I really do not care about money..

it is about traffic and fame…I am working hard..!

  5. I’ve made a small amount and turned around and used it for payout on a contest and purchased items from some of my reader’s blogs so I can review their products on my blog.

  6. About $5,000 from blogging alone.

  7. This is rather interesting :) I made close to $1400 where 90% comes from paid postings..

It was a huge spike in demand last month. But this month’s income would be severely hit as my 3 blogs were slapped hard by Google..

I wonder what are other people’s secret, especially those who earn more than $10k Cheers!

  8. In October I made just under $400 and this was the fourth month in a row that I have had positive gains in my income, which is currently at an all-time high for my relatively new blogs.

Every month I post a recap on my blog indicating how much I have earned and the sources of income. Thus far my highest earning source has been private advertisement deals and I just closed another one for the month of November.

  9. Easily over $15k. ;)

  10. Made about $1,000 or so between my various blogs. Not bad.

  11. $0 from blogging, but around $200 from 2 sites I run, Im thinking of starting to blog, iv only been making money online for about 4 months now :)

  12. Okay, I left three comments today and they all have been deleted. I wonder why that would be?

  13. Wow, I’m impressed by those 19 people in the over $15,000 category. I’m pushing on $15!

Hope I can be there one day…

  14. A Question for RT The Fitness Guy…

How did you make $15,000 with only 162 subscribers? That’s pretty impressive!!! I’m sure we’d all like to know how you achieved that…

  15. I just started my blog Oct. 1; so I still haven’t built traffic yet. I just added advertising. I’ll be happy if I make $10 in November. This was a great poll. It lets us know what’s possible.

  16. I did ok in October. This is a new blog so I don’t expect to get over $500/month for a few more months, but you never know.

    Hey mate,

I didn’t make it from that blog. Actually, that blog makes next to nothing. I actually sold a blog as well as making a fair bit from another fitness equipment site that I run.

I was wondering whether anyone was going to ask that!

    RT the fitness guy

  18. LOL thanks for the answer RT. When you said the money from a sale I thought you must have sold a truckload of sports equipment!

    Congrats on selling the blog.

  19. Interesting results. I’d like to know the categories of income people have, like Adsense options, BlogHer, direct advertisers, selling products on your site, paid product reviews, etc.

Also what type of website, a product/service focus or bloggish?

  20. Wow! Not a lot of people are making big bucks at blogging!

I only made a few bucks in October. Nothing special. But I’ve always maintained that my blog is more of a hobby right now than anything else. I’d love to go Pro though…

    Great post!

  21. i earn average $0.70 a month, this means $5 for 7 months, i always wonder when people say they earned $50 a month or more,

  22. I started up in September and made $25 my first month and $105 in the second off of Adsense. It took me by surprise because I thought it would take a few more months to breach the $100 a month mark.

There are days where I only make 83 cents however.

    Great poll!

  23. I felt great this month because I was increasing my earnings by 100%. I made $1.62 in September and just over $3 for the month of October. It really gets me down that it is so little, but then I watched one of your video posts about making your blog profitable and staying with it. You mentioned that focusing on the percentage increase in profit rather than the actual amount is what kept you excited about it. Thank you again for that. I don’t think that I would be happy with $3 otherwise. Haha, but this month is going to be at least $6 and then hopefully at least 100% increase every month after that until I am actually making enough to make a living from it.

  24. As one commenter said – it would be interesting to see what everyone is paying to get that income.

We had great growth in October – but along with it came bandwidth. Managed dedicated server is running us about 10% of income. Which I guess is OK

  25. It’s very interesting to see what sites maked different sums of money. I earned 5$ with a 20 Visitor/day site :-)

  26. Great poll, See you can make big money with a blog, just have to work hard at it.

    Steve
