ProBlogger – 3 Years
It’s our birthday – ProBlogger.net was 3 years ago today when I transfered all of my blog tips from a subdomain on another domain that I’d been collecting them all on for a year or so.
For those of you waiting for the ProBlogger birthday competition that I’ve been gathering prizes for – I’m hoping to launch it next week once I’m back from my time away.
In the mean time – if you’re a ProBlogger regular – crack open a bottle of your favorite beverage, help yourself to a ProBlogger birthday cup cake and celebrate with me.
It’s been a big year on ProBlogger. New Job Boards, new design, lots of new readers (we’ve doubled last September’s traffic already this month and RSS subscribers are three times higher) and over 1300 posts and around 25,000 comments (that last one’s a guess).
Thanks to everyone for your support. ProBlogger would not be what it is becoming without a fantastic community of readers, commenters, guest posters and linkers. I appreciate you all and hope that you’ve benefited by being involved this year.
Here’s 10 of my personal favorite posts from the last year (listed in no particular order):
- 5 Things You Should Know about my Dad the ProBlogger
- 10 Ways to Hurt Your Blog’s Brand by Commenting on Other Blogs
- Create a Sneeze Page for Your Blog
- 31 Days to Building a Better Blog (a series which contains some of the more practical tips from the year gone by)
- First Impressions Matter on a Blog – Video
- 23 Ideas for Finding New Readers for Your Blog
- What a Bhuddhist Monk Taught Me about Blogging
- How to Make Your RSS Feeds POP – a Series
- How Not to Become a Grumpy Old Blogger
- 9 Attitudes of Highly Creative People
Of course this year ProBlogger had around 1300 posts published so the above just scratches the surface and I’ve skipped over quite a few others that I really enjoyed writing.
If you’ve got another one from the last year from our archives that I missed feel free to suggest it in comments below and if I get enough responses I’ll compile a reader’s best of list too.

I think ProBlogger is actually the first blog I started reading on a regular basis and really got me into the blogging scene. If it wasn’t the first, it was definitely one of the first blogs.

WOW!
Congratulations Darren! I’ve been reading your blog for more than a year now (started last Aug) and have loved it all the time.
I just don’t like the ‘partial’ posts on the home page. It seems that I just have to click for every post. That’s alright on my desktop, but when I am reading your blog on my phone, it becomes a bit difficult.
Anyways, amazing content has always been your hallmark. Keep up the good work

Hi Darren, just wanted to add my congratulations to you on reaching this milestone. Your success is well deserved.
One of the things I love about this site is that there isn’t a hint of smugness or superiority or being above us in any way in the way that you write.
Your material, your tone always seems to stem from the same place: generosity, curiosity, willingness to share the oodles of stuff you’ve found out for yourself. I wasn’t reading the site when you started, but I’m pretty sure we’re still enjoying the same sense of immediate connection with your readers that you started off with.
And that’s some achievement.

I am unsubscribing because I’m tired of being forced to repeatedly scroll through long, full posts when I’m not interested in reading that particular post.
I understand why some want full posts, because there’s a ‘few’ blogs I read every word written. But I only read the ledes in the majority of my subs to see if I want to read more. Thankfully, most of my subs have enough smarts to offer both types of feeds to appease both preferences.
Be well, till later (maybe).

OMG! I thought when it’s your birthday, people are supposed to give YOU gifts. You’re not supposed to give us the gifts! I’m actually so grateful for what you have provided for your readers while commemorating your blog’s birthday. I don’t quite know what to say except… thank you so much and I wish I could hug you, wish you Happy Birthday, and thank you so frickin’ much for sharing so much of your past year that I know I missed! I’m sure there will be things you missed, and I haven’t read the other comments yet, but you captured a lot of great stuff there my friend! Happy Birthday, Problogger.net, you sweetie! Now that I’ve made a fool of myself, against your advice for leaving comments on other blogs, I’m going to say it was worth the risk! :)
