How Long Have You Been Blogging? - Poll Results
Thanks to everyone for responding to last week’s Poll where we asked ‘How Long Have You Been Blogging?‘ There were 2151 responses.
The results showed a lot of readers of this blog have been blogging for less than a year (58% if you include those who don’t yet have a blog). Here’s a pie chart to illustrate it.

Okay, awesome graphics aside, and I am drooling over the graphics. I am really intrigued by the number of individuals with no blog who took part in the survey and by assumption read a blog about blogging. True, I found Problogger the week prior to starting my own blog but I don’t know that I would have signed-in and answered a survey.

Oh I can’t resist it - the graphics are just out of this world. I love the way the 0-3 month bloggers are bursting forth in the bar chart…
You never disappoint Darren - I know the learning on the particular survey findings here is more for you than for us, but you’re always teaching us valuable lessons, about being creative with what we present, and about being endlessly curious about our readership, about taking nothing for granted.

I agree with those before me, the graphics are very nice. Did you use keynote or numbers to produce them? If not, do you mind sharing what your tool of choice is?

yes - graphics are from Keynote.
G’s Cottage - a lot of people discover ProBlogger in their researching phase of blogging (ie before they start). I suspect that a lot of those voting in the ‘no blog’ category would have been first time visitors surfing in from search engines.

Now why can’t Apple make a Windows-version of iWorks? They allowed MS Office in the Mac.
Anyways, It’s very interesting that the non-bloggers were quite a significant share of the pie. I observe the same thing over at my blog.

@jhay: Not to hijack this post, but Apple doesn’t make iWork for your Windows because they’re a hardware company, not a software company.
iWork’s purpose is to provide Mac users with great tools, not just users.
Also, Apple hasn’t “allowed” MS to put Office on the mac, anyone is free to develop Mac software — again, they’re a hardware company.

Those are some pretty sweet graphs! It’s an interesting spread of bloggers and how a majority of readers appear to only have been blogging for less than I year (I fall into that category as well).
You noted in a comment that a lot of people come to this site during the “research phase”. I also fall into that category. While I’m by no means a “pro blogger”, I still wanted this to be a serious hobby and coming here got me started on the right foot.

I’m one of the ones who’s been blogging for about 18 months, and while I don’t feel compelled to read every single one of Darren’s posts anymore, I still follow his RSS feed and try to never miss at least scanning his headlines.
Yes, there’s some repetition over time, but that’s OK with me.
Darren always preaches the fundamental value of good content, not gimmicks, and I admire him for that.

I agree with other commenters, wonderful graphics. I am new to serious blogging (about 2 months into it). Your site has been, and continues to be, an inspiration and source of learning to me. I am struggling with two things right now: first, to set up a regular posting schedule. I am terrible at that, barely managing 2/3 posts a week on average. Second, I still think I need to add enough “quality” content before letting others know about my blog (by indexing it to google, leaving comments on other blogs, etc). I’d rather have slow build-up of loyal readers than quick passers-by. I know you have tons of information on both these issues here, and I probably read most of them.

(I realize my comment is probably out of context for this post, but good to see that most bloggers in these charts are like me.)

This is really great result, I believe many people around the World are not interested in blogging, Well again quality is more important then the quantity. I think the factor which we have to keep in mind is that the contents of blog is useful for end user or Target audience.
