I recently wrote a post with 8 things to do with your blog when you get sick – number five on the list was to find a guest blogger to lend a hand.
This week on noticing a fellow blogger, Blog Bloke, was having a bad run with illness I decided to drop him a note asking if he could do with a guest post to lighten the load and help keep the blog ticking over.
BB accepted and the post just went live. It’s a post on brevity in writing a blog and being selective with what you publish. You can see it at Leave Out the Parts that People Will Skip. Feel free and leave your comments on that post.

I recently feel ill prior to preparing for the occasion. I think I made it through pretty well thanks to my readers being patient, but I’ve learned my lesson…
Also, I was inspired to write about the 7 Reasons a Stomach Virus Is Better Than a Bad Job. I guess that’s the silver lining to missing a week of blogging–you can write about it.

Strangely enough, I find the most popular posts at my knitting blog are the really, really long ones that keep in every single detail most writers skip. (This include photos of exactly how to insert the needle tip inside stitches.)
So there is a “detailed how to article” exception to the rule. There is a niche for excruciating detail in hobby blogs.
That said: you can’t make significant money this way. The posts are too time consuming. If you want to keep the ratio of #visits/time invested high, you can’t fill that sort of niche.
Now that is great team work,lending a helping hand is a wonderful thing.

What I love about this, and the genius that Darren shows here, is that not only did he help out a fellow blogger in need, and write a great post … he did it for someone who has attacked him in the past.
BB is known for his intention attacks, trolls, and baiting of more successful bloggers, and Darren has been one of his many targets in the past.
Now Darren turned BB into a friend with this gesture. Brilliant!
Darius – BB and I have had our issues but I realized a few days back that they were not a one way street in terms of fault – I played my part in it and only hope that this can be the beginning of a good relationship.
