We’re Entering New Design Transition Phase
Just a short note to let readers know that in the next hour or so you’ll begin to see changes to ProBlogger as we launch the new design.
As with all such launches we’re sure there will be a few bumps in the road as the team behind it get things up and running - do checks - find glitches - carry out fixes etc
We ask for your patience and understanding as we do this as it will probably take us a little while to iron out any issues. If you find any issues/bugs/dead links etc please feel free to let us know in comments below. Your help in this will be greatly appreciated.
Once things are stable I’ll write a post outlining some more of the changes and thinking behind them and I’d then love to hear some discussion on what you think. Your constructive feedback will be appreciated and will help make ProBlogger a better resource for all.
Darren nervously backs away from the old orange design….

Note to everyone: there are still a few CSS issues and some of the pages are not setup yet - impossible to do without pushing the site live, so I am fixing them all now and it should be done ASAP :)

I’ll do my best now to Darren, found an array of bugs but I won’t report any for a few hours, I’ll see if you guys sort them out first before I hit you with more. I just popped you a quick email regarding a DPS post by the way.
Once again, loving the new structure.

Wow, What a stunning new design, Darren!
I love it!
You’re giving me a lot of ideas for my eventual redesign down the road, especially with regards to your new redesigned footer and your switch to a single right sidebar.
Excellent job!!

Darren,
Great work by you and your team. This theme is GREAT!
Are you sure there are some bugs? I can’t see them :)
I am so excited to be part of the new era for ProBlogger. I am sure we are going into a new level with the new design.
Keep up the great word Darren.

Wow…it’s VERY different. I don’t think I expected anything so drastic when I saw the title of this post in my feed reader, but I definitely like the new design. Much cleaner, and easier to navigate.
I don’t know if I like having so much of the content at the bottom of the page like that, but overall, I like this new design quite a bit.

Just a couple bugs I’ve noticed:
- The “Advertise on ProBlogger” image link is setup wrong…it leads to a blank white page when I click on it.
- Under “Problogging Resources” at the bottom of the page, the link labeled “My Review” under “Get a Real Blog Videos” leads to the product instead of leading to your review.

The homepage is fantastic. Everything from the featured post to the ajax “best” links. I love it all. :D

I think I´ll need to get used, I like design but perhaps it is less personal. However, it looks great! Just two things, you should maybe choose the thumbnail of the video, you look a bit strange :) and advertising link on sidebar is not working! Anyway, congratulations!

The number of comments on the homepage for this post is different to that on the actual post

Very, very nice, Darren.
I love that the home page is being turned into a more portal/cms style and you’ve seperated the blog from the main domain - leaves you more room for future endeavours.
If this is an indication of where blog design is going then I’m liking it.

Quick note about your new logo which I really like…
Two things registered in my mind immediately upon seeing the bluish-gray circle around the “P”…
First thought: Atoms, protons, nucleus, creating
Second thought that immediately followed first thought: Unity, linked around the world

Awsome new design! I have to ask though, why did you move your affiliate / ad links to the right. I read through your ‘for beginner’s’ section and it said that the ad placement hot spot is on the left sidebar. Just wondering if it really makes a difference. Once again, I really dig this new design

Your blog posts in the left column look like Google Ads. At first I thought all your content disappeared with the video thing smack in the middle.
Hopefully people will be able to distinguish between the signal and the noise on this new site. Your old design was clear and concise, I’m not sure I’d give this look the same definition.

Ryan - Check out the “blog” link at the top. It’s laid out in traditional blog format. If you don’t like the new homepage, just use that instead. :)
Third time I’ve complemented this design; but I’ve just noticed the absolute lack of Adsense! Your RSS feed says (said*) that that was the source of 40% of your income. Will you make a post in the future letting us know how dropping Adsense here has worked out please? :)
(At any rate, it’s alot nicer not having to scroll past all that to get from a post to the comment section!)

Darren,
I love it. BUT…
My first impression was not as stellar as the rest. I got my first look by coming to this post from my Google Reader on a Win 2K box running IE6 at 1024×768. All I saw was the header and the post. The right sidebar got pushed to the bottom. I went to the front page and got the same result with the right sidebar on the Win 2K PC.
It looks great on my Win XP laptop using Firefox.
Blessings!

I cant believe you’re getting rid of the “Helping bloggers earn money” phrase you used to have by your logo. That was part of your image/identity. Why letting it go?
I love the “Best of Problogger” section at the index, any chance that is available as a wordpress plugin? ;-)

August 10th, 2007 10:37 am
Wow Darren I really like the layout. My blogs are all about content cluttering the page but I am really excited about the centralization of the main page and the way that it gives you everything in one place.
Fantastic change although I know some people are just going to hate the change in that they will have to click to get ot any article.
You have given my inspiration to kill the upcoming weekend in a design change.

bug- when i submitted a comment for the video I was directed to a blank page that didn’t load. http://www.problogger.net/archives/2007/08/10/were-entering-new-design-transition-phase/
My apologies if this is premature but the imbalance of the 3 columns is very distracting. Why a big open space in the middle of your home page?
I really like the “best of” widget, nicely done.

Overall - a nice clean look, but can I be rather critical of one major point?
When will blog and web designers realise that a significant proportion of the population CANNOT read white text on a black or dark background without their eyes hurting badly?
Granted - the offending text is at the bottom of the page and is just a list of links - but it is still a problem.

BOY. That’s s stark change. But I like it. Only thing you’re missing is your mug somewhere on the front page. You gotta do it! There are a lot of posts that say one should have their pic on the front and point to your site as a prime example!
…Oh wait…I didn’t even see the bottom there. (#):)

After looking at your Sitemeter stats I guess the Win 2k IE6 thing is not that big of a deal after all. The site looks outstanding on Win XP and Linux using the following:
IE 7 on Win XP
Firefox 1.5.0.1 on Linux
Firefox 2.0.0.6 on XP
Opera 9.22 on Linux
Opera 9.10 on XP
Netscape 7.2 on XP
Mozilla 1.7.13 on XP
Oh Yeah… Firefox 2.0.0.5 does fine on Win 2K
The Palm Blazer on my 700P doesn’t do the template justice at all. The text links and search box above the header writes over the header image. I have the same problem on a blog I am designing for a customer.

Fantastic Darren!
The meta has some problems in Safari, here is a screenshot
http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h59/c_stavanger/Picture11.png
Also, the b5media Mobile RSS is oveflowing the sidebar and its probably best to stick an overflow:hidden in the main column. The url above might break your design in IE.
Finally, I think the round corners in the green subscribe and submit is unnecessary, there is nothing else round in the design so they kind of stand out.

I’m really liking this new design, except maybe all the stuff down the bottom could be up maybe under the b5 sms banner. The green is a bit yucky and doesn’t make me want to subscribe. I’d go red like problogger. I’d also include a vertical list of the last few month’s posts on the archives page, so that it doesn’t take 2 clicks to find the archive.
Just my opinion anyway, take what you will. The site looks sweet!

I don’t really like the homepage. I feel it’s a little overwhelming and the same sized headers for each panel doesn’t help me define each area quick enough. Not too mention the right side feels really heavy.

Overall, I welcome the new professionally designed image for a problogger. :)

Much much better than the previous design which I think was the one weak point in the Problogger brand. Glad you made the move! ;)

Like my last post commenting on your new LOGO, I still find the new LOGO doesn’t appear to be “new” or “fresh”, but
the LAYOUT is EXCELLENT! Clinically clean, spacious to move about and so easy on the eyes. Definitely be back more often to dig some of your past content.
All the best to you Darren.

You’ve done a great job with the archives, which I believe is one of the handicap of the last design. It’s WAY easier to review the past posts now and I’m sure you’ll clock a higher page views ratio in time to come!
Good work, Darren & Team!
Cheers,

Great Design Darren,
Great WordPress blog template designers are hard to find so you are lucky with finding good help.
We will all be interested in reading your notes later on how you will keep up SEO with the change over to the new design.
I will be going through a similar activity (launching new blog and design) in a couple of months so tips from the master (Darren of course) will be quite useful

THIS IS GREAT! I kinda do not like the post on teh far left to be so small - but the layout and color is great!

Great redesign. Small item: On the Archives page, you recommend using the searchbox in the sidebar, but your search box is up at the top right.

Love the colors. And how the logo turned out. I’d increase size of blog posts font though to give it more importance to the site. As it is, everything is given equal space/size/font so it is difficult to ascertain what is what when you first land on the homepage. But you are definitely on the right track!

To be honest, I don’t really like this design. I’ve been reading Problogger semi-regularly for a while now, but this is my first comment. I though the orange was much more inviting and generally a lot nicer to read through. I realize this is still being tweaked, but right now it’s way too clean!
This is just my little opinion though :)

i can see much better in previous design when compared to new one.May you should give a choice to users to choose one among old and new.
i choose the old one.it is user friendly.
should work more on colors, banners, and icons

Very nice - tres sexy, much like our good selves. :)
I’ve created a bit of fluff at Bloggerati Australia - if you ProBloggers new design, and think it’s newsworthy, feel free to vote for it there.
(Bloggerati Australia- sort of like Digg but smaller/cuter and local and drives traffic to Australian blogs and Web 2.0 sites.)
But Darlin’ you need to add the PREVIEW plugin.
