New Design Update

Posted By Darren Rowse 9th of August 2007 ProBlogger Site News 0 Comments

Just a short note to let you know that we’ve put off the launch of the new ProBlogger design for 24 hours. It’s almost ready to go but we felt it would be wiser to do it when b5media’s tech/hosting team were all not traveling to Gnomedex :-)

Plus it gives me an extra day to get a few more things ticked off my ‘to do’ list.

By the Way – thanks to everyone for the feedback on the new logo. As expected, the reactions were a little mixed (as I expect them to be on the new template as it’s a departure from what we currently have) – but in the main the reaction was both positive and constructive. Thanks to everyone for hanging in there with us with this change. I’m looking forward to introducing you to the next phase of the relaunch this time tomorrow.

  1. Can’t wait to see it, I’m sure it’s gonna rock :)

  2. Cool! Can’t wait to see (and critique it ;)

btw your site is a great necessary resource, none of the other sites I visit have a close to 100% quality of post as this site does. I don’t like talking about sites to other people (well cept my own) but yours I can’t help but do the whole word of mouth thing.

  3. I don’t care what it looks like. The content of your blog can never drive people away. Your work is superb!

  4. Looking forward to the relaunch!

  5. looking forward to the new design. I think the new logo is good.

Don’t worry about those who dont like the new design or logo. A big part of this is because people dont like change. When sitepoint changed their design a lot of people didn’t like it but it remains one of the best designed sites on the web.

    :)

  6. hey darren,

redesigns can be fun. it actually improves the activity on the blog. I am looking forward to your new design. I am sure its gonna rock. don’t worry about the negative feedback, its just that people don’t like change..

but eventually everyone will get used to it.

    I’m waiting…

  7. O you tease!
Oh well, they do say that delayed gratification is good for the character…

  8. Can’t wait to see it Darren. I come for the content, but I’m sure it will be great.

  9. One thing to be on the look out for: unless your designer has compensated for it, different designs can sometimes use different paging schemes. For example, some WP themes will show a category page as URL/category/ and and another may show it as URL/category/page

I found this out by using Alex King’s 404 plugin, and am seeing the 404 effects of having changed designs. Now I am having to read up on Apache redirects to figure out how to 302 the old cached pages to the correct ones.

    Good luck with the switchover.

  10. That new logo is sweet. I think it’s the colors that really get ME. (#):)

  11. Ginene is right, the content of ProBlogger far surpasses any concern about the design. When it comes to the new design, your logo looks great.

This is completely off-topic, but have you used the service Adster before? It would be great to read a posting that covers this particular service. ProBlogger has content that addresses text-link ads and adsense, but Adster does not seem to be located in the archives.

If fellow readers are using Adster, how is the service?

  12. That is good, i like your good content. so your audiences will not stay away from your blog. good looking design is part to attract eyes.

  13. Congrats on the change!! Can’t wait to see the new, and will always miss the “old” – this is the look of my first encounter of Problogger and I do like it’s “liveliness”.

  14. Smart move, congrats on the new layout. *=)

  15. The new logo is great. It is good modern look. I’m excited to see it roll out.

  16. Hey Darren,
I’m really looking forward to seeing the new design. I’m curious to see what aspects of the current design you have kept and what has been changed.

  17. Sure… get us all excited for the up coming new look… then you let us all down..

J/K… can’t wait for the new look… I’m a new blogger and your content is a great resource.

  18. Hi Darren,

The Logo looks great, and it’s sure to come across as more professional. Keep up the good work.

    Cheers

  19. * Excited *, can’t wait to see it!

  20. I’m excited to see what you have new ..!!

  21. All th best with the new layout Darren.

As many have said before me, it really is the content that is our main interest here. But having said that, I am sure the new layout will be an improvement on many levels.

In any long active site, layouts are often tweaked and changed, and over the years all those tweaks and changes add up to make it not quite ideal. There’s nothing like a full revamp to get everything fixed and well organised again.

Looking forward to the new look, and once again thank you for running one of the most truly useful sites on the internet.

  22. I can’t wait to see your new design, Darren.

  23. Hi, I’m sure that your new design is fine

  24. I think the logo looks fantastic.

I believe that the people that weren’t so thrilled with the change will grow to love it. I can’t wait to see!

  25. If the logo is anything to go by I think the design is going to be brilliant!

  26. I’m really looking forward to checking out the brand new design, Darren. Even just by looking at the new logo design, I bet it’s going to be awesome. ;)

  27. Hi, Darren.
Can you point us (the newbie bloggers) with a to-do list refering to a major design change?

Thanks. You are doing a great job here and in DPS (I’m a photo-amateur also).

  28. It looks a lot like readwriteweb.com ….

  29. Wow, what a difference. I love the new design. Less like a blog.

  30. Cool site! I was looking for the oraneg ProBlogger site that I visited last month and was surprised it was a new site now. I was wondering if I visited the wrong site… but when i saw your picture on the bottom and on the front page, I convinced it is the right site of problogger. Nice designed. Keep it up!

    -goe d.

  31. Great design! Another example of the power of WordPress. :D

  32. Hey man, great site! Just want to let you know I tested your new design in IE version 6.0 and looks like the sidebar (side navigation) is broke. It collapse to the end of the page. Maybe you could try it out. Firefox has no problem on it. IE did it to me many times, so may want to check. Just a thought.

  33. The font is hurting my eyes :-(

  34. how so Tranix – how could we improve it for you. It’s a lot bigger and rounder than the old one…. what would make it better for you?

  35. Hey Darren as I said earlier the site looks great. I love what you have done with the front page.

Are trackbacks working or are they going to be used in this site?

  36. The site views okay on my friend’s monitor but somehow it look really bold on my LCD
