What do you do with your Blog on the Weekend?

Miscellaneous Blog Tips 114 comments

The weekend is here and I’m looking forward to some fun. You see today is my Son’s first birthday party (his actual birthday is next Friday) and we’re getting together with family and friends to celebrate his first year as well as doing a dedication ceremony (sort of like a Christening). It’s going to be a great day.

Weekends present bloggers with an interesting challenge when it comes to thinking about what to do with their blogs.

‘What do I do with my blog on the weekend?’ is a question I’m often asked.

  • Do I post less because people are not online as much?
  • Should I post more to try to keep traffic levels up?
  • Should I just take a couple of days off for my own well-being (ie get a life)?
  • Should I write posts in advance and set them to go off automatically?
  • Should I use the weekend to write posts for the next week because I’ve got extra time on my hands?

All of the above strategies are ones that I’ve seen different bloggers use (and most of them I’ve tried myself). There’s no real right or wrong answer I guess – but I’d be interested to know what others do with their blogs on the weekend? Is it blogging as usual or do you change your strategy?

  • On one of my blogs I have a regular Saturday feature, Of Note. I take Sunday off.

  • I write more because I have the days off. I also do back of house stuff and read more blogs since i have the time. I would think that more good content would come out of the weekends. Then again, I’m a teacher with weekends off and that may not be the work schedule for most the blog population.

  • Ditto to what Laura said.

I have a regular Link Love post that I do every Saturday, and if I post on Sunday at all, I save that time for off-topic posts, site updates, memes, etc. I save the valuable “during the week” time for my core content and strategic posts.

  • I usually post on Saturday and take the day off on Sunday. I recently decided to take it even further and only post a link roundup on Saturday. Everybody is allowed to take some time off from work.

  • While I don’t have a live blog yet I do have an e-commerce store and have had one for the last 3+ years. I tell myself I will take the weekend off but never do. It just always turns out the be a good time to get things done without having to worry about shipping orders, answering an e-mail inquiry right away or worrying about the phone ringing as my website states we are only open Mon-Fri.

  • For some reason Saturday is my biggest ad click day. My page views are usually slightly less, but my AdSense earnings are more (sometimes much more). I have a blog (http://itsvista.com) that targets both IT pro’s and general computer users. I can see where the ad clicks would be lower during the day when IT pros are accessing and ignoring the ads, but I’d think there would be more ‘amateurs’ at night on a weekday than on a Saturday. I can’t explain it!

  • To be honest, the weekends are usually not very different than weekdays. But that’ll probably change eventually, and I will begin doing my important posts for the week, and I’ll save my link love or blogosphere round-up posts for Saturdays and Sundays. I will probably also use the weekends for writing posts I can timestamp for the week, when I am a lot busier. ;)

  • I do my weekly linkdump on Friday to give people something to click through to over the weekend. Traffic from Friday evening through most of Sunday is much lighter than usual so I don’t usually post anything new. If I do post something over the weekend it is a light or fun post. Occasionally something gets posted Sunday evening when traffic begins to pick up again.

Otherwise the weekend is for non-writing activities. Tweaking the layout, responding to emails, etc.

  • I think the weekends should be reserved for time off and away from the keyboard. That being said, I sometimes find myself posting adventure posts of travels I might have taken during the weekend.

The weekends are also good to think about the week that has passed and plan for the week ahead. Even if that means future dating a few posts to make the week ahead a little less stressful.

  • I don’t post on weekends to give myself a break, but when I have a busy week coming up, I will take time on the weekends to get ahead.

However, my blog doesn’t generate revenue from advertising, so it’s not essential to keep visitors up. I usually try to put something fun up though, so people will get a reward for visiting my blog from Friday to Monday.

    Good question! Thanks for asking!

  • I generally get to catch up on blog work and maintanance, like adding plugins and fixing/changing widgets. I also get serious with longer articles that caught my eye during the week along with any audio or video articles.

  • I find I get the most hits on weekends. Mostly I think because my target audience (mother’s) have more time on weekends with partners home and kids playing sport or whatever, needing a break.

I try and do two posts on Saturday (early morning and late afternoon) and one on Sunday morning to make the most of the extra visits.

I find when I’ve done this my hits later in the week have stayed up.

  • I try to write some posts in advance as I have more free time over the weekend than during the week.

I also try to do a bit of research on blogging; tools, techniques, social sites etc, as I’m pretty new to this space.

Also maybe try to make a few small changes to my template, such as adding boxnet widget.

  • Usually, I take Saturday and Sunday off and give myself some time to:

1). Re-energize my thoughts for the next week.
2). Continue programming on other projects for clients.
3). Spend some time with the family since I also work full-time during the week.

Oh, and Happy Birthday to your son. I remember those times. Make sure you take TONS of pictures! :-)

    JD

  • Usually just keep up my regular posting schedule, only time I take them off is when I’m out of town or taking a small break.

Most of the time on weekends I’m sitting there looking at the stats, since traffic levels and such are almost always 20-30% lower on weekends for me… scares the crap out of me sometimes.

  • Trying to post at least once per day on three blogs is starting to take its toll on me after nearly 16 months of solid blogging. As a result I have started to give myself time off on weekends – Sundays particularly – to ease the work load. If I do post on weekends it is usually something I’ve written earlier in the week.

  • Happy birthday to your little one!

On the weekends, I do maintenance work on my blogs. I catch up on the feeds I read and prepare some posts for the coming week.

  • Looks like my strategy is to write awesome posts on the weekend as everybody else is just doing link dumps, off-topic posts and taking time off!

  • First things first. A big birthday hug to the little one!!!
I have dabbled with all choices and getting into a new groove. Mondays I have two weekly features Meatless Mondays and Monday’s Movement, with sporadic participation in a writing prompt meme Manic Monday. So I now seed my posts for the week by researching, finding links, recipes and video on the weekend.

Again Happy Birthday to the little one, enjoy his youth while it lasts.

Be well and enjoy the day.

  • Aw, first birthday. How wonderful. Didn’t that first year go fast?

Anyway. I still struggle to find a pattern so weekends are my catch-up. I think I will always post at least one weekend day since Mondays are my column deadline. I know I should pre-date and post ahead but that isn’t on the map presently.

  • I post a ‘weekend survey.’

Sometimes it’s related to a series I’ve done or am about to do, and sometimes it’s random.

  • I go blogging as usual. But sometimes it’s nice to take a break…

  • On my Daily Chronicles of the American Civil War blog, the weekend is the same as any other day. On that blog I publish diary entries and news articles from the current date for a particular year in the war. For instance, today was published material from June 29, 1863. Needless to say, much of this material is pre-published in the blog, scheduled for the applicable day. I’m not trying to monetize this one too much right now, but, rather, am building up content for the sesquicentennial (150 years) for the civil war which is just under 4 years away.

On the other blog that I am concentrating on, I am working on getting it going in a consistent fashion and I will be working on it on the weekends. I’m trying to actually write more rather than finding filler material to incorporate into the blog and it’s going to take some consistent effort to build that into a regular habit.

I am in a bit of a different situation, though, than most folks. Weekends differer very little from weekdays for me as I am retired and do not have to take work into consideration.

  • I write less / not at all. I write a lot during the week, in between doing actual work.

Sometimes, but rarely, I’ll write something in advance, but usually my blogging is kinda knee-jerk. I’m working on improving.

  • Heck, I don’t know what i do with my blog during the week let alone the weekend!

I just keep plugging away in hopes of achieving just a bit of your success.

  • I don’t change my routines on the weekend; but my link love post is on Monday to start the week with nice easy posts from readers. :)

  • Blogging about a sport that only happens at the weekend, mine are usually busy. But when there is no Formula One, I usually have a post pre-written, and I spend the time either cleaning the site up a bit (bug-fixing, tweaking) or planning posts for the future. I occasionally leave the house as well and try to get some fresh air. ;-)

  • I ‘Study’ on the weekend; means I read blogs, those informative blogs like problogger.net to learn more from these guys on their path to success.

Then I will do research on what to write for my sites… this takes time.

After reading and still have some free time, I will write some post and schedule to post it on the weekday.

  • Posting stuff that was prior written and then just posted on the weekend is a bad idea, worse if you have comments on manual approval. When you post and people read it, they will respond to 99% immediately. If you have comments on manual approval, all comments will be stuck in the approval queue and no conversation starts. Then it will be forgotten on Monday and comments will never see the light of the day (like it did when Mr.Battelle posted here).

If comments are on auto-approval, a conversation might starts, but without you. What is the point in that. If you want to do that, don’t use a blog :).

If you don’t post on the weekend, people will understand that (and who does not is a jerk who needs a life hehe), but if you feel like blogging and post one on Saturday or Sunday, nobody will complain about it.

    Cheers!
    Carsten

  • I either blog a lot more or a lot less. :)

  • I write posts set to publish during the upcoming week, catch up on feeds, work on new articles and drafts, and I still post! No rest for the wicked blogger… When you have a blog called GoogleTube Video of the Day, you don’t get a day off!

  • I wont miss a chance like week end ,I usually dont get time to write on my blog after attending my college.

  • I used to say I’ll take the weekends off since my blog activities are usually low on weekends, but I never do. I find weekends a very good time to work on those draft posts that I might need in case of “emergencies”, LOL.

  • Well I am not sure. This is my first weekend!

Probably post something. Not really sure.

Looks like it is split down the middle with you guys. Half past on weekends and half dont.

  • Some weekends, I turn off the computer and take a walk outside, enjoy great times with my friends or enjoy other positive diversions. Other weekends, I research online and/or read books in my niche so that I can gradually improve the quality of my blog posts and comments on other blogs. Its all about trying to find a balance. Its also about diligence, persistence, and growing in knowledge.

  • Since traffic during weekend much lighter for my blog than usual, I usually do the following:

    1) Post the links of entries that I made through out the week
    2) Think / draft of topics as “backlog” entries

And this week is the Canada Day Long Weekend here =)

Have a nice weekend everyone !

  • On Fridays I post a new round of a game called Guess the Internet Marketing Site. Friday, Saturday and Sunday are lighter traffic so this is a fun way to ease into the weekend.

  • Hey, it’s my son’s first birthday today! Cheers to all us dads :) Way to go and take time off for your family. While blogging/work is great and important, family is the most important thing.

    James

  • I take Sunday off, Saturday night may spent time limit for update a blog and revised some plan for affiliate programe, But even it;s holiday I always keep thinking for blogging and online make money

  • First things first – Happy Birthday to your son! That’s quite a milestone, probably more for you than the little guy at the moment. Take a million photographs!
As for blogging, I confess to being erratic but am trying to write more regularly. Weekends are a great time to catch up and at least plan what to write. I try and balance my time between writing and creating more t-shirts to write about, as the whole focus of my blog is about what I do in a favourite t-shirt, from going on safaris around Africa to putting my feet up and watching a favourite DVD. Which gives me an excellent opportunity to write about travel, write book and DVD reviews, philosophize about life, share the inspirations that lead to my Swelter t-shirt designs and just shamelessly promote my tees. I write professionally and am involved in the advertising industry so putting together a blog that involves writing much more personally and marketing myself this time is proving to be a surprising but wonderful challenge. I’m still finding my way and owe a great deal to your site for helping me do that. Many, many thanks!

  • I try to post at weekends, but don’t stress myself out too much if I’m unable to. I think most people are not expecting you to post at weekends.

I think the problems start when people visit a blog several days in a row and it has not been updated. I subscribe to a few like that, and I’m about to delete them off my list.

  • I generally try to post once in a week. As my week days are usually busy,I post mostly on weekends or if not, at least try to get the post ready.

For my travel blog, it is definitely weekend as it takes more time.

  • Nothing changes for me from one day to another. I try to blog daily and have at least one post regardless of the traffic dip. Sometimes I will write up a couple posts throughout the week and put them in queue for the weekend. At any rate, I try to make it a habit.

  • Happy birthday to the little ProBlogger!

I don’t post on the weekend to have two days away from the computer. Walking away from the internet for a bit gives my brain an opportunity to refresh, and gets me outside more where I can find inspiration for blog posts for the next week.

  • I’m never really sure what day of the week it is…

  • Happy B-Day!

I generally don’t actively post on the weekend, but instead will try to generate some of my longer posts during this time. If I have a surplus during the week I’ll schedule some to go off during this time.

  • I post less on weekends but try do at least one post every day. Now regular visitor should be disappointed because there is nothing new.

  • I’m participanting in Saturday photo hunters, therefore, I will spend 1-2 hours every saturday morning to prepare the phote & post, as well as visit other Photo Hunters posts.

  • On weekend usually I blog more and find more topic about next week post.

anyway Happy birthday to litle problogger :D

  • Like you, I have a young child, so weekends are not when I have ‘extra time’ on my hands! In fact, I find I do most of my writing in the lunch hour at work, so weekends are actually a bit harder for me. My blog (www.drawanyway.com) is all about fitting art into the small amounts of time I do have, which is not much.

At the moment, I have a weekly drawing task for my readers – we all have the whole weekend to draw something on the same theme. And on a Sunday I link to an inspirational art site. Readership does drop at the weekend, you’re right, but my readers seem to check in, even if it’s a few days later, to see the weekend task and the link.

  • On weekend I normally write something brief or I post something funny…

I also try to find the “weekend material” during the week to save some time… I also give advice that, on Monday, I’ll try to post something bold :-)

    Everybody has its methods… That’s mine! :-)

    Regards from Spain…

  • I blog at least 6 times a week, write series and articles in advance for periods when I’m busy training or with no inspiration.
I star interesting stuf in my Google reader during workdays and on days off (I often train on weekends) I take the time to read and decide if I want to use it.
    I time stamp some articles.
I don’t post less yet because I’m still building the basics for my educational blog on NLP for marketing my business and not for making money on ads.
But who knows, I’m preparing another blog on which I intend tot put ads …

  • I find when I post on the weekend, my hits for that weekend, plus the following week are much higher. Therefore I write at least one post on Saturday, often two, although they’re usually more news-orientated or linking to other blogs.

I always take Sundays off. I write in the area of health, of which work-life balance is an important component. Posting every day does not fit into my personal ethos, or the message I’m trying to get across to readers.

  • I catch up on marketing technology! Since I spend all my time posting and reading I have very little time to play with some of the new widgets and websites that are coming out. Lately I have been playing around with spicy page!

  • I suppose I take a few days off, thought it varies weekly. I do try and write a few posts for the week after, or work on something on my blog, just to get it ready :)

  • I post 2 or more posts per day on my house blog so Im usually very busy. I notice Sunday my traffic drops to nil, so any free time I do have I usually plan for the week ahead, write up some posts beforehand and fire them off during the next week. Seems to help and give me more time for everything else in life. Great site… I finally got around to RSS’ing it. Duh.

  • One more thing I forgot to mention. And I read this someplace DEEP in your blog archives about a blog folder you made. You talked about doing this on monday, that on tuesday, so and so for wednesday, but you trailed off and said yada yada yada etc, etc, etc.

My question to you is: what is your workflow for blogging? I think this would tremendously help all of us bloggers out there. Im so disorganized (says my wife) yet I somehow put it all together. I admit, I could do much better, and a workflow of how you do things would help us out. Id really love both a #1 daily workflow and also #2 a weekly workflow. Thanks if you can deliver!!!

  • I usually catch up on weekends and try to do most of my writing for the rest of the week. It is easier for me to do it this way since I can´t guarantee I wll have time to write during the week.

  • Well, this is only my fourth weekend blogging so my experience is limited. But so far I do work on the blog on weekends (posting as well as tweaking) because I can get some nice stretches of time to focus. It’s just my personality to love having time to get totally absorbed in a project outside the usual routine. But I balance that with offline time outdoors (after all, my blog is about gardening), social time and other R&R. Last weekend I prepared my Sunday entry on Saturday and time-posted it, and I liked that. Since I’m in the early development stage I’m trying to build content, so I don’t really want to take a day off altogether. Plus, I’m having a lot of fun!

  • For my own blog, I have a guest blogger write up a “weekend discussion.” Some weekends the discussions are really popular and other they get only a couple of comments. I do get more visitors however, than if I just left it for the weekend.

For the blogs I write for others, it depends on whether or not I fulfilled my requirements. Gernally I write at least one post for all my blogs.

  • For me, I will blog as many as I can on my weekend free time, as sometimes I do go out to have fun with friend. Because I have school on weekdays so I can’t write much, that’s why weekend is like working day for me as a blogger. Cheer!

  • I get myself busy to do my research, write articles for my blog and get busy with networking! Hi, if you have time, I’ll really appreciate it if you take 30 seconds to visit my blog and drop me a line of your advice. It will mean a lot to me. Thank you!

    http://www.bloggingmix.com

I wish your son more blessings and a healthy life. Cheers.

  • I take weekends off, unless something especially interesting and time-sensitive happens. I put up a graphic every Friday saying I won’t be around and it tends to become an open thread. I often think I’ll write my next week’s posts over the weekend, but I seldom do.

My traffic bottoms out every weekend anyway, so why not? I squeeze one out every weekday. I think predictability helps return visitors.

  • Since my blog is mainly Track and Field (Athletics) related, most of my traffic comes on Sun or Mon, because that’s the majority of competitions, at least in the USA. In Europe, it doesn’t matter what day of the week the meets are held, but Friday night is the big one. The funny thing is my blog doesn’t cover news or results, but Track fans love information, stats, and gossip! So I write whenever I’m insprired to write.

  • Sadly, I prepare the outlines for eleven posts on my two blogs!

It is time to get a life.

    Jonathan

  • On one of my blogs, I do a speedlinking-style (with a twist) post. It’s called the Weekly WTH on Tuesdays (example: http://redwallhp.ntugo.com/2007/06/12/weekly-wth-june-12-2007/).

On my other blogs, I don’t do anything special yet, but I’ve been thinking of doing something similar on Webmaster-Source.com on Saturdays.

From September-March, I tend to get less posting done because I’m not around my computer much.

  • It must really depend on the type of blog – though I find traffic levels plummet over the weekend on all the different sites I am involved in. So it just seems a waste to write “something for the weekend” when very few people are potentially going to read it…

  • My blog traffic dips considerably on the weekends and I’m of no mind to fight it. Instead, as it’s usually a catchup time for me, I’ll compose a few posts to go up Monday or even later in the week if they’re more fun and not as time sensitive.

  • I usually spend the weekends reading other peoples blogs, then after hours of reading and admiring some fantastic blogs so many wonderful people have created I sit back and just stare at my own blog and realize my blog sucks :(

  • Oh my, I am not pleased about being comment number 66, sorry I had comment again for know other reason than to be number 67.

  • I never take a day off. I work, work and work. Because I’ve school and I get only the evening to blog. And, for me, blogging is the “weekend” activity. :)

  • Because I work full time through the week, the weekends are when I can take the time to write longer, more involved stories. I do take time off from the sponsored posts on weekends, simply because there aren’t as many to choose from.

  • I’ll post just one post on Saturday, and one post of Sunday. If I have addicted readers, they’ll get their fix (not to say that my blog is all that hot… well, it is. It’s blazin’), we’ll start a discussion, and those who’ve taken a break during those days will come back on Monday ready to see what they’ve missed, and catch up.

Ultimately, I believe if you’re a new blogger your ass needs to be blogging, and building as much content as possible. But if you are a PROBLOGGER, and you have the readership, comments, and Google [profits], you can relax a little on the weekend. You deserve it, damnit!

    - Ask Trew Life

  • On the weekends , I go the “get a life” route. While I put up two posts each day as I normally would, one of those on Saturday is just a link roundup of interesting reads, and on Sunday there’s a music video pick. Not too much work.

  • I usually post once on Saturday like I normally would, and don’t post anything on Sunday. Since I have a lot of free time, I usually try to come up with a few blog posts to post later during the week.

  • My site is about NYC with kids and in June I’ve been doing week-long themes–five posts , one each week day. On Saturdays I’ve been doing something either with humor or an off-theme day trip. Sunday’s I’ve just been posting about the next week’s upcoming theme. I also try to use extra weekend time to do some blog maintenance or marketing and plan the upcoming week’s posts.

That said, I don’t know if I will stick to that structure. My readership definitely drops over the weekends. When I first started the site I would do a “social networking post” on Saturdays. That was the only time I got good hit numbers on the weekends. I hadn’t thought of that. Thanks for this post, maybe I should go back to that.

  • Darren, it nice to see that you have managed keep a successful blog and still not jeopardize your family time. Happy birthday to your son, enjoy the time because it will fly by. I remember like it was just the other day my son was starting kindergarten….now he’s entering high school. wow.

As my time during the week is busy with a full time job and graduate school, I use my weekends to write some future posts. I may not set the date to post, as I usually like to re-read a couple times. Having a few “canned” posts help on those long days, when you come home from work and don’t want to think.

  • The weekend is when I have time to get creative with my blog. I usually take Sundays to plan out the subject matter for the next week, and write all week long as time allows.

  • Interestingly, I am discussing with a couple of blogging buddies on this topic – today is Sat and I haven’t wrote a single post – I guess I just enjoy taking a little break with my boy and doing things outside the blogosphere :)

  • When I started writing for a network I was posting on the weekends, usually writing in advance and scheduling them. But the traffic was always terrible so I stopped doing that and instead used the time to write longer, more focussed posts for the rest of the week.

It’s been interesting reading the comments here and so I’ve decided to launch a couple of weekly features to go up at the weekend. Even if the traffic is lower, it seems ad clicks can sometimes be higher.

  • “Should I just take a couple of days off for my own well-being (ie get a life)?”
Thats what I do. Then again, I don’t have a real income fro my blog. Just penny. Or øre if you will, I’m Norwegian. :)

  • And Happy Birthday to your son! Hope you have a great time!

  • It’s pretty much the same for me but that will change soon (I hope.) I’m a business owner at times it seems as though I never have a day off. Eventually, I would like to see that as my time to catch up with web maintenance, visit other blogs, and maybe work on articles that I want to publish later.

I’ll be on vacation next week and I’ve already taken full advantage of the advance posting. I’ll still be working just not as much, and most of my light work will be completed after my daughter goes to sleep in the evening.

I hope your son has a fabulous birthday.

  • I personally take ‘off’ on weekends, it is the time to spend time with my husband, get some much needed cleaning done, and sometimes, like today, catch up on reading my favorite blogs that I don’t get time to fully read up on during the week.

Personally, taking off on weekends for me is like a fresh start on Mondays, I avoid getting burnt out and even when I do work a little on the weekend it is only for a bit and usually because I want to not because I need to.

  • being number 76 in the response to this question, it shows that you hit once again a ‘jackpot’ question darren.

weekends are not any different re blogging, maybe even a lit busier with catching up with blog posts but i would love to get to the point that i can take weekends totally off from blogging and just enjoy life and family. pua

  • I had been posting on weekends, but as I wasn’t getting much traffic, I stopped doing so. If I work on my site at all on the weekends, it’s to tweak the design, add features, or promote my blog, not to write new posts.

  • I generally try to post on Saturdays. I work at home, so weekends make little difference to me. Sundays and Mondays are generally my husband’s day off, so I try to take Sunday as a family day as much as possible.

    Happy birthday to your son!

  • I usually tend to post more during weekends, since I have more spare time to do so. I also spend some extra time trying to improve my blog design and layout and rearrange my adsense blocks.
Anyway I spend most of my time trying to understand the best way to earn money here in italy (i’m an italian blogger) since we don’t have all the earning possiblities you english speaker are given (i can say we just have Adsense, sigh)

  • Really, it depends on the weekend. If there are things to do, I do them and save the bulk of the blog work for the upcoming week, but if I have time to kill, like now, I will go “visiting” or networking – read what’s been happening on my favorite blogs !

  • Really it depends on the weekend. I do try to keep my life alive on the weekends and do things out of the house. But if I have time, like right now, I will go visiting and do some networking. Catch up on all my favorite blogs!

  • It’s business as usual. When I need a break, I take most of a day off, regardless of when that is. I feel disconnected from the workday rhythms, maybe not such a good thing. If I’m inspired to do an item, any day is a good time to sit down and crank!

Happy birthday wishes to the young one. My baby boy is 14 and 6′1. It goes so fast. Best advice I ever got was to pay as much attention as you can to this magic time of having a baby.

  • I have tried several of those techniques. I went away for a long weekend a few weeks ago and wrote about 10 articles in advance but they didn’t do that well as there was actually alot of technology news going on. On normal weekends i try to do business as usual but find maybe an extra post or so to help the traffic.

    Ollie

  • I also just realised that asking for comments actually works! I just had a complusion to add my thoughts!

  • Hi,
    I write posts, of course.

  • My traffic drops over the weekend, plus I need to spend time with family, so I rarely blog on the weekends unless I’m truly inspired. I do, however, look at comments and stats.

  • If I have time to post on weekends (which happens to be pretty often) the hardest part of it to stay motivated since there are almost no comments, trackbacks or other sites picking up on my stories. Can get upseting but Monday is right around the corner. :)

  • For my sanity, I don’t often blog on weekends. On my blog I have a note on top of the page that tells readers I post Mon.-Fri. and on weekends only when I feel like it.

  • I’ve conducted a poll about the same topic over at my blog recently

  • I take a break from blogging on Saturdays. It helps me keep my focus plus gives me time to think of what topics I want to write about next week. On Sundays I post a link roundup of interesting articles I’ve seen throughout the week.

  • Over the weekend…

I try to publish a bit more over the weekend. During the week I have a thousand and one other things to do as well. Once I get my head around the blogosphere I might change my strategy a bit.

It seems to take some significant time to become established in the blogging community, on any topic.

Does anybody know of resources where I can find a VERY simple 1-2-3 on blogging? Even Problogger is very big. I would like to get more participation on my blog, more traffic…

Thank you all for making the good stuff work!

  • Whenever I have had a blog, be it my current one or old ones, I always find traffic drops sharply at the weekend. Sometimes as much as 90% even if I do post over the weekend.

I assume the trends could be subject specific. Do IT related blogs get read more during the working week and more “personal” type blogs get read more at weekends?

  • During the weekend I am working on my blog as hard as I can because then I have plenty of time. Here’s what I do:

    1) Write and schedule new posts – as many as I can.
    2) Manage my PPC campaigns.
    3) Browse and comment on blogs I read regularly
    4) Write forum posts
    5) Write mails for co-operation
    6) Work on my new e-book and free reports

As you can see, the weekends are a very busy time for me.

    Regards,
    William

  • Every weekend I try to post some random sites that have some good quality content that might help my readers. Since I have a tendency to write long detailed articles I figure it is probably a good idea to give my readers a little break.

  • I try to post as usual, but sometimes will write a post and have it ready to send out for monday morning. My weekends are always up in the air so I never know what’s going to happen !!!

  • I don’t post on weekends. I suppose with some planning I could prepare a few things for the weekend byut Friday night is usually downtime for me. I try to get out and listen to some live music so I might have something to write about in the weeks ahead.

  • I try to do my longer posts on the weekends as I have more free time to give them all the time they deserve. I also like to use the time to get ahead for the next week and do lots of research and get some posts in for the days of the week ahead that I know I’ll be too busy to add any posts. Blogging is my hobby so I have a choice, but I just like it so much I can’t help myself.

  • The weekends a busy time for me because:
    1. Posting new article
    2. Write forum posts
    3. Reading ebooks

  • I like to catch up on my rss reading on the weekends. I keep adding feeds to my reader, and I just can’t keep up thru the week. There are so many good ideas out there, I can’t get enough.

  • I just wondering, what if we are bored to blog? How to anticipated “empty ideas” week?

  • I do a lot of marketing/research on my weekends. I don’t post, because it’s my ‘day off.’ I might stumble more, comment on other blogs, and jot down post ideas. If I’m being good, I’ll sometimes write a post in advance.

  • I was just researching about weekend traffic on blogs. My blog is fairly new and when the traffic dips on the weekend, well then there is really no traffic…….lol. I know, myself, I read blogs just on the weekdays or nights. On the weekends, I check out some fun sites an do tons of research on blogging. I usually get back to my favorite blogs during the week.

  • @Darren,

I think It is better to take Sunday off, unless you are obsessed with your blog. Otherwise it will work against us over time.

    On weekends:
–>I never posted extra on my blog
–>Weekends can actually bring more traffic. I don’t know how this works for others. But I feel that people get some time to read others’ blogs.
–>Most of the time I don’t update my blog on weekdays. But recently I had changed the rythm of updates and increased frequency to comfortable levels. So today I did a scheduled update that goes live after 2 hours.
–>Presently I am scheduling posts and even last week I did the same when I couldn’t spend time online.
–>After all the weekend is over, late Sunday night I consider writing the next post. I really feel like using the whole weekend for blogging as much as I can but I don’t get such a chance. This is the weekend I got such chance. I am planning to use it fully.

  • My blog is only two months old. Generally I’ve not been blogging on the weekends. But I got the urge today (Saturday)
I’ll probably opt for weekends off. Still need help with installing Google anaytics so I can track traffic. I’m obsessed!
