My take on this is that landing page is the most important aspect of a website and you need to tweak it seriously to get the most of it.

I am sceptical that expert copywriters will win these type of competition hands down and the little guy will not have a chance at all.

Landing pages can be REALLY annoying, they all look the same! I did a little “Get Rich Quick” spoof landing-page a month or two ago: perhaps I should enter it for the comp :) The “action” is a little tricky to quantify though!

I do agree with Graydon. It does seem like those who have the networks and beneficial affiliate skills may have the advantage over the little guy, as they can create the best offers.

I love Copyblogger and although I’m not a Copy Writer (or any other writer for that matter), I’ll probably give it a try just because it’ll be fun.

Graydon, what you may be missing is that Darren’s group writing projects are not competitions, and this is. That’s why it’s called a contest.

You may choose not to participate, but there’s no “goof” or “error.” It’s been designed this way, and response is quite healthy among those who want to compete.

Maybe I missed it somewhere in the article, but I think they goofed on one aspect of the entire competition…

If you win, you get good things.

If you submit and don’t win, what do you get?

They may be failing to convert the readers to participants / competitors because there’s no identifiable benefit to submitting unless you win the grand prize.

Based upon the existing comments about “experienced copy people winning” I think this is a significant error.

At least in your GWP’s (love the fact you use my initials here by the way)… there’s a stated benefit of getting a link published and some traffic.
