Group Writing Project This Week! – Here’s the Prize

This is just a short note to give readers some advanced warning that this week is the week for the next ProBlogger Group Writing Project.

Tomorrow I’ll announce the topic (it’s one that every blogger of any topic should find accessible) but in the lead up to it I’d like to announce the sponsor and prize of this next project.

I’m pleased to announce that Chitika (the ad network that I make around 30% (it does go up and down a little) of my income from) is coming to the Group Writing Project party and is offering one lucky (and random) participant….

$1001 cash

My request for sponsors brought in some generous offers for prizes but I decided to go with Chitikas for a few reasons:

1. They’re a relevant sponsor for ProBlogger

2. I believe in them and have no hesitation in recommending them (see my previous review of Chitika and tips on how to use them).

3. Readers have previously fed back that ‘cash’ was the prize they competed hardest for

So stay tuned over the next 24 hours for a topic announcement – along with a new system for submitting the posts that you want to submit which hopefully will streamline the whole project a lot more (and let me run them more regularly).

Oh – and thanks Chitika!

PS: if you’ve never done a ProBlogger Group Writing Project before you might like to check out this post introducing the last one to give you the idea of how they run.

I can’t wait :D BTW – a typo ‘heads -up’ – you have put ‘wee’ in steak of ‘week’ at the top.

    :)

  2. Ashish Mohta says:

wohoo!! Darren lol That figure just look damn good. I am just wondering what topic will be this time. I hope to see it soon

  3. A contest is a-brewing…really excited about this one, man. Will definitely check back for more updates.

  4. Darren Rowse says:

Thanks Matt – had one of those ‘Scottish’ moments there….

  5. Ginene says:

Sounds like a great contest. I am excited to know more about it.

  6. Nicholas says:

I can’t wait Darren! I think I’ll tip you $1 and you can just leave the rest to the winner…

Man oh man, am I excited…

  7. Jeez Darren, this surely is some serious amount of money. I am sure there’ll be a lot of participation.

  8. Rich Owings says:

    Darren,

I have a request. How about giving those of us who strive to keep our blogs on topic (just following your advice!) an alternative way to post for your contests?

  9. Ali says:

    Wow! Count me in!

I sure could use $1001. Have to pay for a vacation to go see my mom and show her my new baby :-).

I’m going to give it my best shot!

  10. I’m excited to try this – I think. Can I write from any blog? Meaning… this blog I have is not all that established, nor am I that invested in it. It’s just blow off steam kind of fun. Now… if I could write along the lines of my BlogBombs.com site that might make it really fun. I’ve read previous group project contributors writings and it was pretty serious toned. Can we make it fun or no? I’m still a bit confused and don’t want to waste the energy doing the wrong thing. Vern

  11. Paul51 says:

Thanks Darren! Your group writing projects are great fun, and well worth the time, prizewinner or not.

  12. Darren,
You might want to take a cue from a bunch of the blog “memes” or “carnivals” that blogging Moms are doing – when they do a contest like this they put up a plugin called Mr. Linky. The participants drop their name and URL into the Mr. Linky (where they each get a number and a nicely formatted link), and it makes a nice, easy way for the person running the contest to check the entries or pick a random winner.
It also lets other people visiting the blog have a nice list of participating posts to go visit.

To see one in action, check out the latest Works For Me Wednesday meme/carnival.

  13. Dana says:

Ooh, very excited for this one – I’ll have to squeeze it in between re-doing my blog (that I accidently complete crashed). :-(

  14. engtech says:

    Great prize.

What might also be good is highlighting some of the best of the project. In your past two group projects, I had much more exposure to my contribution when it was highlighted versus when I was part of the total list.

  15. Grace says:

That is great money, Darren. :) And from your reviews, Chitika does sound like a good sponsor.

  16. Techie Buzz says:

That’s great can’t wait for the project to start.

  17. Alden ROCKS!!! :D

  18. Jeff Davis says:

I’m looking forward to this. I haven’t written competitively in a long time.

Always looking for new material I can relate to Omaha, Nebraska. :)

I’m thinking that with the sheer numbers of quality bloggers that touch down here on a regular basis, good reading will be in abundance for quite some time.

  19. Tom O'Leary says:

    Hi Darren

Thanks for setting this up. I guess we all really appreciate using your blog as a meeting place…somewhere to network and get new ideas. I’m really looking forward to contributing and reading what others put up.
    Tom

  20. I’m new to this ballgame, but i love writing. Reading about the last Group Writing Project gets me all excited!

  21. James says:

I missed the last few, but I will definitely be doing this one.
The prize is cool, but I really enjoy just doing the group project.

  22. Tara says:

I just discovered your blog. Wow – how very awesome. Thank you for putting all this information out here, I’ll definitely be back often.

(now off to check up on this Group Writing project…)

  23. Chee Kui says:

woohoo ;) It’s that season to be jolly. Lol.

  24. Not that it matters – but is that $1000 in AUS currency, or US?

If US, does that effectively double the dividends for non-US people?

  25. Darren Rowse says:

    USD Karen.

Not sure what the implications of it are for different countries and tax etc. I guess that’s between individuals and their accountants.

  26. Sean says:

Cool! I defiantly need some money lol.

  27. tantowi says:

    My idea:
Surpise the contestant with a free gift. It makes them love you more :)
