With so many people writing online today, just appealing to the robots is a surefire way to never gain market-share. Keyword research is important for creating targeted content, but focusing on things like keyword density leads to dense sounding content. And nobody wants to read that!

Even if your content exactly matches a search query, Google is not going to trust it much unless other people trust it first, which leads to a chicken vs egg scenario.

Until you get subscribers, build market attention, and people regularly link at your writing, then it is important to put people well ahead of search engines. When writing your headlines make sure they are clear and compelling, but place human emotional response ahead of trying to match as many keyword phrases as possible.

If you are new don’t be afraid to ask for help with marketing. Write comments on popular blogs, participate in discussion forums, buy AdSense ads on related blogs, interview someone who is popular or blog about them. Eventually people will notice. We are all selfish. We are each the most relevant thing in our lives.

  1. I would have to agree with Aaron. We are all selfish, especially when it comes to wanting others to notice our blogs. I am no different. I look for new comments almost as much as I check my stats to see how many new visitors I’ve received.

Since I’m still new to blogging I have yet to tackle the task of writing entries that are optimized for search engines. But, with zero page ranking I’ve seen my content listed in top search results numerous times, even when there have been well over 1,000,000 hits on a particular search string.

I would have to say that writing for people should be the first priority for good SEO. After all, if the content has relevance people will find it!

  2. I am refocusing my blog’s orientation. Originately, it was built to drive traffic to my site, but now I realize that I need to drive the traffic to the blog instead.

The web is changing, and I follow the Web 2.0 trend.

  3. As a non techie sort of person, I haven’t considered SEO at all since I started my blog in October 2006. I have just tried to keep on topic about travel in Europe and write posts that are interesting, informative and entertaining to readers. Still there has been a large increase in the number of visitors to my site and an increase in bookings. I believe if you think to much about optimisation your content suffers.

  4. the problem that people read posts (I have not huge traffic) but they did not leave comments or trackbaks which is the mort important thing to encourage you to contunie blogging.
As you know search engine is not the first way to get more traffic and comment help you more to get more quality content.
I ask what the best tips to get more comments?.

  6. Hi lassaad,
You should maybe start by asking a question in your title. People love to tell their opinion…

  7. Content is king. Writing for the people will give them what they want to read which will encourage repeat visits, word of mouth advertising and adds to social bookmarks which will in turn increase traffic and up the rankings on google.

  8. Agreed! Content should be the goal. Traffic follows. Now click on the link and complain later!

  9. When it comes to simply making your own blog then you have to follow a bit of different route. You need to make your blog interesting and get the best content out so other bloggers will also link to you. That way you can get your rankings up too.
