[...] Earlier this year I had the pleasure of being on a panel about blogging, at the ad:tech interactive marketing conference in Sydney. The audience was mixed, ranging from the large proportion who indicated they did not have blogs to pro blogger Darren Rowse, who included some comments on the session in his report here.
I'm just pulling my event review together, and I have to say I was quite disappointed with the speakers I saw on day 1. So much so, I almost came in to work today and sent one of my staff off... but I didn't and thankfully so..

All 4 keynotes were enjoyable, even if they didn't cover new ground for mine. As you mentioned, the whirlwind trip that Myspace has taken in such a short time was of interest, as were the 17/18 year olds on the panel and the second keynote today with Harold Mitchell.

I was too cheap to fork out the $1400 for the event so I just went to the free exhibition hall. Had a few interesting conversations with some of the reps there which was good.

I was surprised that there weren't more inhouse affilaite programs hawking for affiliates - the only one (excluding the actual networks) was JoeBucks.

Interesting information. Newly retired, I'm just starting to explore some of the possibilities for myself. I've got a lot to learn. It's interesting that there was discussion related to blogging ethics.

Thanks for sharing.

Hi Darren,

I too was meaning to get to the adTech conference, but was unable to - Thanks for the thorough review of the presentations.

Interesting comments you made about social networking in the Online Travel and Hospitality industry - the reward component of a review is something that I am currently examining at the moment (I'm working on a user-generated site), so it was very timely of you to write this :)

Hi Darren,

Great to meet you today... if only i were in better shape I would have spent more time chatting!

The one thing I found from the sessions today is that the content was pretty light on... not enough meat to make me think that the $1400 was worthwhile. Hopefully we will see some better sessions tomorrow.

Then again, the MySpace party was pretty good :)

Cheers,

Thanks for blogging the event, Darren.

I tried to make it but business commitments held me back - so this is the next best thing.

The user generated sites are the way to go, but what is the best way for the average user to get the ability to do this?
