One thing I would add is that if someone does decide to end their blog, they should consider selling it rather than just letting it fade away. There is an increasing market for buying websites, especially if good content and readership has been built up. Your blog may be worth more than you think.

Darren, I read both Lorelle's piece and a few in your series as well. Very well done. This brings to mind an old 'sales' saying, "if it were easy...then everyone would be doing it." Well, guess what.....Blogging is easy and if not everybody, certainly tens of millions are doing it. Thus... the need for the newest sector in the blogosphere...'Literary' Jack Kervorkians. Please continue to help put a couple million of these old dogs down. Its the humane and socially correct thing to do. I believe the following reference was in the recent Time Magazine 'Person of the Year' issue..."the comments...make you weep for the future of humanity just for the spelling alone..."

Great Post Darren!
I've seen some great blogs run out of original content and become a 'just read a great post over at...' or, a regurgitation of their previous posts.
It takes a lot of effort to create and maintain a great blog.

I think its only time 'not to end' your blog if you are simply doing it to have fresh content for the serps and more pages on your website...

Lorelle makes some great points here.

But what about the impact on your bottom line? If you're blogging for business (or non-profit) purposes, blogging is about more than your personal issues. What's the effect on your streams of prospects, leads and revenues? What's the effect on your client relationships? I'd love to hear about this.

I like her points.

It 's a good read because it is not a downer on tired blogging per se - it seems, to me, simply to be saying, "think about it first."

The title might be a little misleading, but it's a great hook. All in all: 6 or 7 of the points related to When To Stop. 3 said Don't Even Start. 4 cried out Don't Post That! and 1 was Sound Advice If You Do Stop.

For someone new, like me, it is excellent advice. Thanks for pointing it out.

Hey Darren,

I must add that Lorelle has written very well on the topic. Extremely thoughtful and grounded advice that asks for bloggers who are finding it tough to ask tough questions about their blogs.

Though I've faced health problems/other work-related issues/other hurdles with my newly created blog, stopping/killing my blog is not even on my mind. Sometimes, you need to work harder and be more persistent and take the right steps to achieve your goal.

Cheers!

I'm glad this is striking a chord with people. The old adage that there is a time and place for everything applies to blogging. While everyone can blog, not everyone should blog. The trouble comes in telling the difference.

I hope this helps people know the difference.

Thanks, Darren.
