WordPress 2.1 - What You Should Know
Aaron has put together a worthwhile post for WordPress users wanting to upgrade to WP 2.1. It’s called 10 Things You should Know About WordPress 2.1 which outlines some of the new stuff that it has including auto-saving drafts, new image upload handling, new visual editor interface and merging of links and categories.
I’ve had a play with WP 2.1 and as a WP user I enjoyed it a lot. More functional but very familiar and easy to get used to.

Can’t for for 2.1 :D
I had JUST gotten done upgrading all my blogs to 2.0.7 . Ah well :D
I’m going to have to check if all my plugins will continue to work after the upgrade or not .

I am very much looking forward to 2.1, but right now I can’t risk installing it anywhere and risk some possible security issue coming out of it.

I wonder what would it do to my custom made thumbnail generator since it updates the image uploading feature. I’ll wait a little before making the jump.

I’m excited about it as well, the only thing that concerns me is the compatibility of the current plugins I currently use to power my blog.
Hope the plugin authors update their plugins in time for the WP 2.1 release.

I am just looking forward to reprogram all my sidebar and theme hacks I did during the last couple of month. ;)
Anyway like the widget thingy a lot and hope that the theme builders will integrate this technique more often to make changes in the sidebar as simply as possible.
Regards,
René

I upgraded to the new 2.1 (I did a full backup just in case) last week. Everything worked fine and was quite flawless. I run a simple, customized theme - no issues there. I only run three plugins - akismet, wp backup and the feedburner plugin. All three plugins worked fine with the new install. I did need to strip all data and tables from the old database, however. The whole install took about 4-5 minutes and everything works. I do like the new 2.1 I must say.

Note on plugins. Ryan Boren from WordPress commented on my blog that the concern over $table* variables that would break quite a few plugins has been put to rest. Those variables have been restored.

Ashish, the updates do seem to be pretty frequent - with subsequent updates for security concerns. I was rather in a hurry to check out 2.1 as I also have a custom system I have been hacking for a while and I’m trying to decide whether I will just use my own. I like Wordpress - there just are some annoyances.

I’m pretty steamed about the blogroll command ruining all of my hard work on my multi-category blog roll, but I’ll wait until they add table functions to allow me to display it the way it was before.
Until then, I’m afraid to implement the new command because it’s totally screwed up.
