I’ll be at ad:tech Sydney in February

Are any readers heading to adTech in Sydney in February?

I’ll be arriving the morning of 7th and flying out on the evening of the 8th but would be keen to meet any others who are there.

I know Des Walsh is going to be there and from what he says Rick Bruner will be also.

I’m going to attend as ‘press’ and won’t be speaking but am keen to hear some of those in the line up (including Des and Rick).

Perhaps we should organize a Bloggers Beer night or something on 7th.

Update: Des and I are keen to do a meet up on the evening of the 7th but as we’re both not that familiar with Sydney’s CBD we’re wondering if anyone knows of any good spots? It’s a Wednesday night and we’ll be at the Hilton Hotel in Sydney at 488 George St so somewhere close by would be great (and somewhere where we can hear each other talk would be preferable). Any Sydney folk got any suggestions?

Darren – you should come to SES Toronto, June 12-13 2007. I’d love to have the chance to meet you and buy you a drink for all the help you’ve given via your blog!

  2. Dave says:

I’ll probly go to this, only heard of it just now, but seeing as I live in Sydney, and it’s only a 20 minute ferry ride to get there, I may aswell.

  3. Darren Rowse says:

Caydel – would love to but will be in Toronto over Easter so a return trip will be too much unfortunately.

Would be cool to meet you Dave.

I’m from Sydney, so it sounds like a great idea.

And the Hilton isn’t far from a good many thirst quenching establishments… the Bavarian Beer Cafe being one of them [open to suggestions of course].

  5. Mike says:

I was thinking of going, but haven’t decided yet.

How about the meet up in Melbourne?

  6. Steven Noble says:

    I’m up for it.

    Hi Darren,

There are too many places to eat that are fantastic in Sydney. Some are a short walk, some are a short Taxi ride.

Seafood = Doyle’s down around Circular Quay

Walk over to Darling Harbour for a heap more

China Town has some fantastic restaurants but is a bit noisy if you eat out on the street.

For something a bit more stylish try the top of the Queen Victoria Building

Enjoy your stay, Sydney is a fantastic city. Unfortunately I now live 1000kms away so won’t be able to catch up.

Oh, and nearly forgot… if you want a great view of the City there is a rotating restaurant at the top of Centrepoint Tower.

Via this post http://trevorcook.typepad.com/weblog/2007/01/the_flack_downu.html on Trevor Cook’s blog (see, duly acknowledged :)) I found there is a Sydney Webloggers Group on Meetup http://blog.meetup.com/371/, have joined and posted a message about this thread. Looks like they meet at Paddy Maguire’s pub – George St cnr Hay St, edge of Chinatown and about three blocks from the Hilton, so maybe that’s the place to go.

  10. Des Walsh says:

don’t know what I did – html in the comment? – to split up my comment, but the key message is that it looks like Paddy Maguires pub (very unobtrusive in the usual “Irish pub”mode) corner George and Hay, is the go.

  11. Darren Rowse says:

    sounds like a plan!

  12. Steven Noble says:

Seeing as Ad-tech is at the Hilton, I’d suggest a very short stroll to the Arthouse Hotel.

  13. Hi all

Steve Noble is right – The Arthouse Hotel is the best watering-hole right alongside the Hilton Hotel.

As current organiser of the Sydney Weblogger meetups, I’ve set up an event to coincide with the first night of the conference on Feb 7 at the Arthouse Hotel.

    The details are here:
    http://blog.meetup.com/371/calendar/5404256/

This will be a great chance to de-compress and compare notes after the first day with others who share your blogging endeavours.

Hope you can all make it!
