How to Get Multiple Amazon Associates Tracking IDs (channels)

Have you ever wanted to be able to track your Amazon Associate program’s performance with channels (like you can with AdSense and Chitika)?

I’ve heard a number of publishers complaining about this and even a few saying that they have multiple Amazon Associate accounts for this purpose.

It seems that Amazon actually do have the capability to allow for this type of tracking without having to have multiple accounts (which incidentally isn’t a great idea as it decreases the numbers of sales credited to your account which in term means your % earnings goes down under the tiered system).

Gene writes that all you need to do to be able to track your individual Amazon Associates campaigns is to ask for it by emailing them at [email protected] and telling them:

1. Your main Associates ID.

2. “I would like to receive XXX Associates tracking id’s to track multiple campaigns I am planning to run.”

That’s it. XXX can be any number up to 1,500. You will receive an email within 24 hours with your tracking id’s.

Tracking id’s will look very much like your Associates ID but a bit different. If your Associates ID is “MyWebSite-20″, then your tracking id’s look something like “MyWeb1-20″ through “MyWeb1500-20″.

You will then be able to use your tracking id’s in the same place as you would use your Associates ID.

Pretty cool isn’t it! I wish I’d known this earlier.

He updated the post to say they are actually self service:

“if you would like to create a few tracking id’s, you can do it yourself without emailing Amazon by simply logging into Amazon Associates Central web site and then clicking on:
Your account -> Manage your Tracking IDs -> Add Tracking ID”

    Very easy.

I figured this out when I wanted to create a few aStore’s for some of my niche sites. You can view your earnings report by individual tracking ID or by all of them combined. To view them all at once, choose Earnings Reports, then Change Tracking ID, and select Show reports for all your Tracking IDs combined.

Good news, indeed. This “lack” in Amazon’s program has been bugging me for ages… Now, being able to track a few different campaigns should go a long way to meeting some of the income-oriented New Year’s Resolutions… Thanks for the tip!

  4. Yeah, can definitely do this yourself within your account. I just added several the other day. You’ve actually been able to e-mail them for tracking codes for quite some time now (ever since I first signed up) but I never got around to it.

  5. Hello Darren & All,

Unless I’m speaking of something else, I have in the past done what the
first poster above said — and that worked for me when trying to create
    tracking I.D.’s.

I am still trying to figure my way around Amazon… thanks for the tips!

  7. I’ve had a few tracking IDs for a couple of years and it’s been most helpful. They let you run all of the reports for a particular ID or for all of them, and there’s also a breakdown report by tracking ID.

You did have to email them in the past, but apparently you can create tracking IDs yourself from the admin pages now.

Thanks for the tip. I was actaully thinking about signing up to be an Amazon Associate. This post is very helpful. Thanks.

I’ve noticed that B&N offers 8% rather an Amazon’s 4 %. But, most readers are more likely to have an amazon account profile than B&N. How do you think Amazon would react if you listed links for one book to both Amazon and B&N to give readers a preference?

Thank you for the post. I already have an amazon id and was thinking about the ways of tracking performances of the different promotion methods I use. Having several amazon associate ids will allow me to do just that.

    Tweaking Recommended Product Links code?

    Hi

I am using a little php to auto populate the search results while
using the Amazon Associates “Recommended Product Links” banner. The
search variable $searchentry is generated by a users search on my site
(Code is at the bottom of this post).

This works fine and delivers reults based on the value of the
    variable.

Is there any way of replacing “&mode=books-uk” with something that
will use all the amazon categories?

I would like my results to show anything at amazon relating to search,
    not just books

I tried removing “&mode=books-uk”, but the results are still all books
    (by default it would seem).

I have tried “&mode=all” and such like; with no success.

    Any help would be super

    Many thanks

    Mr M

I was definitely happy the day they started allowing multiple tracking ids without having to send an email. I currently use about 20 different tracking ids for various websites, and blogs.

  13. What is the max # of tracking id’s that can be added ?

  14. Tony says:

    Sumit,

“[...]there is a limit of 100 Tracking IDs per associate account”.

  15. Sorry, maybe my question is out of topic.
Have you ever used adwords to promote amazon products?
    How to do it?

    Thanks.
