ProBlogger Group Writing Project - Reviews and Predictions
It’s time for another ProBlogger Group Writing Project - and this time we’ve got 10 prizes worth between $2000 to $2500 USD!
PLEASE READ ALL OF THE INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE SUBMITTING. Particularly pay attention to the instruction to submit NEW posts not previously written ones. Old posts (written before today) won’t be accepted and will not be eligible for a gift. Thanks for your understanding.
The Topic
This project’s topic is ‘Reviews and Predictions…….’
Your task is to write a post that looks back or looks forward (on what is up to you).
- You might want to look back on the year that was (topical for this time of year)….
- You could make some predictions about what the new year will bring in your niche….
- You could look back on some aspect of your life….
- You might use the post to make some resolutions for the year ahead….
- You might like to give an award for the last year to someone in your niche….
- You might look back on the 10 biggest developments, 5 biggest mistakes, 72 best quotes…. of your niche….
Write it in any style you like, a rant, list, poem, video, pictorial, haiku, podcast….. anything
Be as creative as you can and take this in any direction you like. You’ll have a much better chance of getting your post noticed if it’s useful and/or interesting to readers and write something relevant to the topic of your blog.
Once you’ve written your post simply follow the process for participating that I’ve outlined below (please note - to be eligible for the gifts from our sponsors you need to follow the guidelines below).
The Prizes
This project has attracted sponsors willing to donate some great prizes with a total value of over $2000 (and up to $2400 depending what people choose to take). All values below are in $US and all cash prizes can be paid via PayPal.
- 451 Press is offering one lucky winner a Nintendo Wii (worth $250). 451 Press is a blog network. Thanks to Steve for this prize.
- bloglinkr is offering $100 cash or $500 in advertising credit on their service when they launch in the first quarter of 2007. bloglinkr is a new ad network exclusively for blogs and sounds like an interesting project to watch in the next few months. Thanks to Michael for this offer.
- The Blogging Times has offered $100 cash to their winner. Thanks to Minic for this prize.
- Information for Her Australia for Australian Women is offering $100 cash (via PayPal). This is a site for Australian women giving information on health issues, rural women, indigenous women and more. Thanks to Toni for this prize.
- Poker on a Mac (a poker site for Mac users) is offering a 30gb video ipod to their winner. Thanks to Mike for this.
- Dave Taylor from Ask Dave Taylor Tech Support and The Intuitive Life Business Blog is offering a copy of his book ‘Growing Your Business with Google‘ and $100 cash as his prize.
- Thrive Web Marketing are offering a medium level webhosting package for a year that includes 100MB of webspace, 4000MB data transfer a month and more (worth $240). Thanks to Ross for this prize.
- eMoms at Home is offering two free passes (worth $349 each) to a 12 week group coaching program that she’s running in January. The course (via phone) is about how to be more productive and build a business. Read more on it here. Thanks Wendy for this prize.
- DeveloperCube - a forum for web developers - is offering a $100 Amazon gift voucher. Thanks to Patrick for this prize.
- Rob Schaumer is offering a $100 gift card (of the winners choice) at GiftCertificates.com. Thanks Rob!
Thanks also to those others who offered to sponsor this week. As I mentioned - there were 50 offers of prizes which was quite overwhelming. I’ve chosen prizes based upon reader feedback from last time. Readers liked actual prizes, cash etc more than services.
How To Participate
Here’s how to participate and put yourself in the running for a gift. Please read this as it has changed slightly since last time:
Please note - one entry per person - and not per blog. Please only submit NEW posts.
1. Write a ‘preview or review’ post
- Be as creative as you’d like - take it in any direction you want as long as it relates to the topic.
- Give your post a good title. Once all the posts are listed it’ll only be your title that sets it apart from others. It doesn’t have to have the words ‘review’ and or ‘preview’ in the title.
- Feel free to write your post in your own first language.
- Please consider putting a link back to this post on your post so that your readers know you’re participating. You don’t have to do this - but it’d be appreaciated to help grow the project.
2. Let us Know about your post
- Once you’ve posted your post let me know about it by sending me an email via my contact form.
- Please include your name (as you want it to appear in my list), your post title and the URL to your post (not just to your blog’s front page).
- Submissions must be received by me the the end of Thursday 21 December (as long as it’s still Thursday where you send it from I’ll accept it). If they come in after Thursday they won’t be included in the list and will not be in the running for the gifts.
3. I will post 2 links to your post
- In the day or two after you let me know about your post I’ll post a link to it in two places. Firstly there will be a daily (ish) list of the submissions from the last 24 hours. Secondly there will be a central list of all submissions for the project so we can see everything on one page.
- I’ll post my final list of submissions on Friday and will announce those who receive the gifts then.
4. Surf Surf Surf
- This is where you take over. Surf the submissions received. Leave comments, make connections with other ProBlogger readers and enjoy reading what others have to say.
5. Link Link Link
- There is no formal ‘judging’ as this is not a competition. Instead - I encourage you to surf through the submissions at the end of the week and announce your own winners on your own blog. Name a top 5 or so and share the link love.
- Probably the best part of the last group project was the amount of inter-linking I see happening between participating bloggers as a result of their posts. It’s obvious that people found new blogs through it and that the benefits of participating was way beyond getting a link from me but flowed on to a lot of new connections and links between other bloggers.
6. Prizes
- On Friday I’ll randomly select 10 participants to win the 10 gifts and will post the winners at this point. The rest of us can muse over what could have been and then we’ll get ourselves ready for next months project.

Very timely (and a cool incentive) as I’m currently drafting ‘my predictions for 2007′ post.
I can’t wait to see all the prediction posts coming out - it’ll be good reading and I’m sure there’ll be some good insights.

The end of the calendar year is almost here and we come to a time when we like to evaluate what we have did with ourselves over the year as well as what we will set our minds to achieve for the coming year. I have decided to share what I believe has been the three most influencial moves(three amigos) for the growth of the readership of dipnoi, so that you as readers can possibly benefit your blog with one or more of these tasks, that I have benefited from, over the next calendar. I would also like to share with everyone that this post will be in the ProBlogger “Group Writing Project” and if you have never participated I would highly recommend you to try it at least once. […]

My Thoughts » Whats the year going to bring
December 19th, 2006 6:52 am
[…] After reading about the Problogger Group Writing project I decided to participate and write about what the future holds for me. As you know this past year has been tough as I was let go from a job I loved and had to look into a career change. I’m going back to school and hopefully next fall I’ll be in the Radiology program at the local community college. One day I’ll be an x-ray technician. Also, hopefully one day I will find love. I’m heppy being single but it seems like several times I’ve found someone special that I wanted to date or possibly fall in love with it didn’t happen. There have been a variety of reasons this past year including language barriers, and distance barriers. I have no ill feelings for any of these people because at one point in my life they were very important to me. That made them special then and makes them special now. Another important thing that happened to me this past year is this blog. I’m not sure what made me decide to start a blog but in August thats what I did. My blog also brought me in contact with a startup blog for advertising company and alot of great new friends. As far as my online presence goes, I couldn’t be happier. I feel I’ve came a long way in the four months I’ve been a blogger. And the last important thing that happened to me this year was my new job. I am a security officer for a hospital. It’s a good job for me to have while going to school because the hours are very friendly. The pay is competitive but I would love to be making more money (who wouldn’t). I’ve also made some really good friends at the hospital. They have to be good friends because every night I trust them to have my back in any situation and I have theres. Now, what is the new year going to bring? I wish I knew. Hopefully it’ll bring me success in school and in love. I don’t know if it will bring either but only time will tell. I do know that I will be putting every effort into my blog to make it more of a success. Some of my goals for the blog are to get the page rank higher (right now it’s 0), make some money without compromising my integrity or the integrity of my blog, and to raise my daily readership. It would be nice to get some more email subscribers. My goals for school are simple. I want to make good grades and learn as much as I can. My goals for my love life….well who knows. I would love to find someone to love me (or to start, just want to date me or just hang out). You should stay tuned here and I will keep you updated on how everything goes for the new year. […]

Motorsports Predictions from The Garage for 2007 | The Garage

[…] It’s become somewhat of a tradition for journalists to use this time of year to reflect upon the year gone by and maybe even make a few predictions. Enough said, here are five reasons/prediction why I think Filipino bloggers will make it bigger in 2007.1 )Â 2006 was a great time for Filipino bloggers whether based in the Philippines or anywhere else. More and more Filipino bloggers have joined the ranks of full time network bloggers in various worldwide blogging networks. The most recent of which was of course the heralding of the Blog Herald by none other than top Filipino Pro-bloggers Abe Olandres and J. Angelo Racoma. […]

[…] Darren Rowse at Problogger is once again holding a writing competition for bloggers. His last competition, on How Tos, was held just after I started blogging, and I entered a post I wrote called Account Security. This time around, the topic is about Reviews and Predictions. It’s pretty timely. As I’ve been thinking about what to write on this subject, it occurred to me that I’ve also been thinking a lot lately about where I want to go with this blog and the web. It seems a perfect match up. […]

[…] The year didn’t get off to a good start as far as the blog was concerned, due to a major upgrading disaster. Lesson learned: never try to do major blog platform upgrades while you have the flu. I was honored to host the New Blog Showcase for 7 May of 2006, and would like to do that again in 2007. It gave me the opportunity to spread the word about new blogs, as well as find some new ones to add to the blogroll. I participated in this year’s CSS Reboot in the spring, and hope to do so again in 2007, this time with a little more theme work. As far as site statistics go, I’ve doubled my traffic from last year’s numbers, and I’m grateful for everyone who stops by. I’ve also been able to bring in a little advertising, and I hope to fine-tune that in 2007. I’ve also met a lot of interesting bloggers, at least as far as online is concerned. For 2007, I’d like to look into coming up with a Customerservant.com logo as well, and I’d like to include more images within posts. I’d also like to offer a sincere thanks to my readers. Without you guys, I’d just be talking to myself. Come to think of it, maybe this blog reflection stuff isn’t such a bad idea after all. This post is part of Problogger’s latest group writing project. He’s still taking submissions, and there are some cool prizes being offered, plus links, so consider participating. Filed in Personal log […]

Make Money Hustling » The Year of the Ebay Hustler - Go Nuts!
December 21st, 2006 3:45 am
[…] Darren over at Problogger is having another writing contest, so here is my thoughts on the 2007 year, the year of the Ebay Hustler! During 2006 there was a lot of talk about the large number of powersellers leaving Ebay due to the increase in fees, most notably the increase in Store Inventory fees. While this might be true, it is easy to see that more and more people are joining the seller ranks of Ebay. Almost everyone that you talk to has some sort of story about how they sold something on Ebay and made some nice extra money. Even my mother has located profitable items for me to list on Ebay. The best item was one of those old rotary dial telephones that people practically give away; if you find one in mint condition they can easily fetch over $50! People are starting to catch on to this Ebay thing, that’s why the profits for these powersellers are dropping. 2007 will see far more people hustling for some extra cash. If you want to become an Ebay Hustler, here are some excellent tips: […]

Talkupation.info » Blog Archive » Top 10 Unexpected News Stories on the WWW in 2006
December 21st, 2006 11:15 am
[…] 2006 has been another huge year for the Internet, and the general growth of ecommerce and Web 2.0. With only a few days left before 2007 hits us, I thought it would be a good time to reflect on 2006, and at the same time participate in the ProBlogger Group Writing Project. Initially I planned on creating a post of the Top 25 online news stories in 2006, but I quickly realized that such a post would be a daunting task, and would undoubtedly omit several key stories. I then came up with the idea of creating a list of the Top 10 Unexpected News Stories on the WWW in 2006, and created a list of 40 or so stories that could be considered for the list. It was a tough job narrowing down the list, but anyways here it goes:10. Google Enters Domain BusinessGoogle has always been a major player in the search engine and online advertising businesses, but by entering the domain business they opened up a number of new possibilities and opportunities for growth in 2007. 9. Google Launches Google CheckoutPayPal finally has a rival in the online payment industry that has the budget and the manpower to gain a significant market share.8. MSN Search Replaced by Live.com SearchMSN Search is replaced by Live.com, as Microsoft looks to changes its online image, both as a search engine and advertising giant.7. iTunes Offers TV Shows and Movies for DownloadApple signs contracts with the major television networks and movie studios to offer a new mainstream alternative for users to watch media on their computers, and on the go through their iPod’s.6. Bill Gates Announces he Will Leave Microsoft in 2008The founder of Microsoft and arguably one of the most powerful men in America, announced that he will step down from his roles at Microsoft in 2008, raising the question of what a Bill Gates-less Microsoft will look like in years to come.5. Google, Microsoft, and Yahoo Agree on Standardized Sitemap ProtocolGoogle, Microsoft, and Yahoo have hardly ever agreed on subjects in the past when it came to search, but by agreeing on a standardized sitemap protocol, it opens up the possibility of future joint ventures and policies, which could significantly improve the internet as a whole.4. Yahoo Answers Forces the Closure of Google AnswersYahoo Answers outperformed all expectations, as 60 million users signed up within the first year, and 160 million answers were written. This free service by Yahoo forced Google to close its own paid answer service, Google Answers, and has tremendous potential to continue growing in the coming years.3. The Million Dollar Homepage is CompletedWhen the Million Dollar Homepage was first launched by Alex Tew, many bloggers, including myself passed it off as a pathetic attempt of begging for money, and something that would never succeed. Boy was I wrong! The Million Dollar Homepage not only made the million dollars that it set out to (and more if you count the final eBay auctions), but it was covered by media outlets throughout the world, and even has become popular enough to warrant copycat sites.2. Google Purchases YouTube for $1.65 billion dollarsYouTube quickly became one of the most popular websites in 2006, especially among the younger demographic, and that is in part why the Google acquisition was such a surprise. Frankly, $1.65 billion dollars is a lot of money, but it very well may pay for itself in the future for Google if they are able to successfully integrate video advertising on the site, and consequently offer this new platform of advertising to its existing advertisers.1. Skype Offers Free Outbound CallsFor years, VOIP has been deemed the next great thing, but unfortunately high costs and unreliable service have deterred people away from it. In 2006 Skype made a revolutionary move in offering free outbound calls and greatly improving its product. In 2007 they will begin charging for their service, but after this amazing offer I would not be surprised at all if within 5 years over half of tech savvy internet users cancel their landlines, and switch to a VOIP service such as Skype. […]
