Poll of the Week Closed

Posted By Darren Rowse 9th of December 2006 ProBlogger Site News 0 Comments

I’ve had to end the Poll of the Week because of ongoing problems that I was having with it and how it was impacting the design of the rest of the blog.

I believe the results are accurate enough (with 732 responses over the two days that it ran) so will publish them next week.

Sorry to those yet to vote but for the sake of a more smoothly running blog I thought it best to end it prematurely.

  1. I’ve used a poll or 2 in the past, I found them to be more trouble than they’re worth. it was cool to see the results while they were up though.

  2. I noticed there was some problems with it fitting in the sidebar with text overlapping, thought it was just my computer though. I’d say over 700 responses should be fairly accurate. Can’t wait for the results.

  3. I’ve found polls to be very difficult, especially the ones that integrate the results into a sidebar.

Also, when you are using wp-cache like I am, a lot of the plugins out there just don’t work. I will eventually have to build a better caching plugin that doesn’t break everything.

  4. Too bad it had to be stopped so soon. I’ve noticed yesterday, after I voted, that the layout was broken. Yet, 732 answers over two days spread, shows a good level of participation. I’m very curious about the results.
Regarding the wp-cache plugin, I started to use it only after I got farked and the server crashed, and I noticed that it messes up more that the polls, it makes pages display blank, users having to press F5 to refresh, in order to view the page.

  5. […] Polls will again last for 1 week only so as not to drag them on. All Im asking for is 10 seconds of your time to place your vote as this will help me also to get demographics regarding the makeup of my readers. Its also a bit of fun. As a side note, Darren had some problems with the plugin and sidebar compatibility so if there’s a design problem, I may have to take the poll down – for now though its functioning fine. […]
